This is my new bike and i looooove it. Its a do it all bike, you can go mostly anywhere, keep a good speed on gravel/tarmac and it especially is helpful when you need to climb. I am no pro, i just go on adventures or simple commutes, and this one here does it so well and its super fun.

I ordered the x 9 2021 in March last year. They first said September, then November, then January, now I get the brand new orange 2022 model in the first week of February for the same price as the 2021.🥂

Nice, great they honored the price!

Yeah it's a bit all over the place. I ordered mine a few months ago from the Trek dealer just two minutes walk from my work place to be told Sept 23 delivery, got a call last week - now it's Sept THIS YEAR!! So very happy about that! Want to upgrade wheelset and brakes to Shimano XT, as I had done with my ten year old Merida H/Tail - however doesn't look like Shimano have any stock : (

I'm a lifelong mountain biker and currently have a Trek Fuel EX 8. I'm looking for a 2nd bike for doing some speed and distance training on paved paths and some light trails. I was debating between the X Caliber 9 and the Dual Sport 2 Gen 5. I realize they're entirely different bikes, but both would work for that purpose. What are your thoughts on that and, more importantly, how much faster is the X Cal 9 than the Fuel EX 8 on very light trails/paved paths? Is it significant? There are no X Cals at any retailers in my area to test ride, so I'd appreciate your input. Thanks!

Xcal would be faster but not hugely the majority will come from the tires being faster. Dual sport will be significantly different and fast

I have a 2019 xcal 9. I put on some WTB nano tires for gravel and they are quick. Would love the dropper on the new model. Blue color is tight

    Hi there?
I have tested one but it was more around the bikeshop.
I'm more than a roadie but I'm doing some mtb when the road season is over. But I'm looking for something that I can rely on. And I think I will go for this one. I don't think I'm going to do a lot of mtb, But I will enjoy my riding when I'm on the trails.
Is this the one to go for?

Super review because of your thoughts on the capabilities of the X-Caliber 9 and its versatility on other surfaces. Glad you think the 10-51 gearset would keep speed on gravel. Thanks. Backordered 18 months at my local Trek distributor. ☹️

Thanks Chris. Would this be suitable as a first off-road bike for me (for trail / woodland riding)? Also, I would be a frame size S - is there a downside to the 27.5" wheels (eg I'm thinking insufficiently high gearing when I'm on tarmac)?

I have mostly single track trail experience and I would recommend this bike, I don’t have it but a buddy of mine has it and he can keep up with the faster group, take it as you wish but this would be an excellent do everything bike

    • @goodluckchrisclark
      @goodluckchrisclark  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes you'd do great on it, definitely work slightly harder on the tarmac but it's not hugely noticable

I prefer 29. if you are riding a small they are probably great. They turn fast and you can put some wide tires on. 29 accelerate and rollover stuff better(general differences). Put some wider tires and you can have an xc bike that's very capable on single track.

It doesn't need a 32T chain ring the 10-52 cassette has generous gear ratio at 3 in the highest gear and as low as .59 so I'm not sure what you think this bike needs.

In Germany you can get the 2023 model for around 1.300 Euros or less. I am not sure about the Bontrager hubs... but I like the geometry, I am not a fan of those downhill head angles like the Roscoe or the Canyon stoic have.

I got a 2022 mode and I’m wondering if it’s capable enough to hit berms and small dirt jumps

gotta admit, 'budget' is such an inappropriate word for these types of entry level bikes. :(
