You know, even though this doesn't look all that great, I'm still happy about these old games getting a second chance. That's how I got the Pac Man World remake, Baten Kaitos HD and Etrian Odyssey on the Switch, haha ❤
Isn't the slower hold fire rate specifically because of the caged fairies? It makes sense that they make you pick between a rapid fire rate by mashing or getting the bonus of the additional fairy charge attack.
You get a slower fire rate while "charging" up the fairies. In the Dreamcast game you had to hold the fire button for 1 1/2 seconds to charge the fairies to attack some random targets. In the remade game the charge time is quick and coupled with the visual lock on feature, so you are not restricted to the slow fire rate.
Not quite the Starfox killer we were all hoping for, but I do love me a good on-rails shooter They seem to have been largely forgotten (like 3D platformers) and it's a shame... Nice review Holden
It was never meant to be a “Starfox” killer as this was the 2nd and only other game to do this gameplay style full time (the series is more known for the other entries that are basically more similar to horizontal shmups)
I got it and its pretty good. Its important to know what you're getting into with this... rail shooter, with throwbacks to the sidescrolling games and one similar pov genesis game.
It is really nice to have the anime aesthetic and better controls. Really an improvement over the Dreamcast original, I guess. A nice remake in a sense.
Got my physical copy on order. Imported the original on Dreamcast back in the day and got enjoyment out of it. Not my favourite Cotton game, but it is an interesting change. Review is good, bit better than average, fine not amazing!
Wow, very weird, I have never played anything like this. The little witch is very cute though 😊 thanks for the video, I’m always learning new things here
This looks way to difficult for me, but always nice to see old games become available in modern platforms. Now if only they could add more of my GBC and GBA childhood favorites to the online subscription.
I am waiting for my copy. Wow the widescreen makes a big difference in gameplay, now you can actually see enemies lol BTW... Holden? The same Holden from HigherVoltage?
And they still haven't fixed the fact that you can see where you are shooting... To me, this totally makes this not worthy to deal with something that can be fixed by just rising the camera a bit upwards like Starfox did before. This makes the game 100x harder than it should be, remastered visuals or not.
Looks like a ploddy mess for this kind of shooter. Space Harrier made a better fist of it all the way back in the 80s (and it's only a couple of quid on Switch when it frequently goes on sale). Cheers for the review.
@@SwitchUpYt it doesn't look like it either, it's a shame but if a game is off in some way like that, that's it, isn't it, if you know what I mean, you'd put it down and never pick it up again
That's interesting. Here I am thinking they are extremely charming and aged beautifully. Just curious what your age is? I'm in my late 30s so I have nostalgia for these kind of graphics. It's probably an age thing.
No that wasn't Holden'a argument. Imprecise controls and a lack of precision from them means at that in the later stages it's very unbalanced. At least, that's what I heard. Mark
Ah, Nintendo yet again shoveling nostalgia bait, but "remastered", in order to milk this cow dry before Switch 2 hits the streets, and Y-u-z-u forks resurface yet again. Well done, corporation, well done.
@@aperturius I am aware of that, but did you notice the "remastered"? I am fairly sure it is going to run way better, with improved graphics on everything else out there (as are all of the other multiplatform ports/remasters/remakes out there). Hence, I stay at my original stand. Care to continue the argument?
@@theMeshtar Um, I don't really think I have to. My argument is based on fact, not assumptions, and I have Likes, you don't. But you've got lots of confidence, buddy. Good for you. *pats back*
Are you a shooter fan and played the original release? Thanks to Holden for writing this one - he's a massive shooter fan. Mark
I wonder if you knew you could add continues into the game? The head dev Andreas Scholl said so
As the legendary Austin Powers once said: “this sort of thing ain’t my bag, baby”
😂
lol same

You can't compare those games with this complete shit.

Air Twister
@@magicjohnson3121 That came out well after, Space Harrier would be the most apt comparison.
I love these visuals
Saving my $$ for Paper Mario this month
I was always curious about this series but I could never really figure out the best title to begin with...
Cotton Rock and Roll/Fantasy or Cotton Reboot are both fantastic. Reboot includes the original game as well.
@@CorinianSalame Oh thanks! I'll look into these!
How many joy con sticks did you break playing this game?
It sounds like I would regret it, but I cannot deny my love for those visuals and those sounds! Great Stuff, as always!
I got it and its pretty good. Its important to know what you're getting into with this... rail shooter, with throwbacks to the sidescrolling games and one similar pov genesis game.
I got it because its basically near lost media.
Not really lost media, this game is pretty popular in the dreamcast scene, this is actually the Dreamcast fan translation used in the remaster!
Itll be on sale soon enough. Ill wait until then.
It is really nice to have the anime aesthetic and better controls. Really an improvement over the Dreamcast original, I guess. A nice remake in a sense.
Back to Space Harrier, it is then 😊😊😊
The translation was done by the dreamcast translation team! The same translation was released on dreamcast a couple years ago!
ABOUT TIME! luv this game
If we could ever get a dreamcast remake I want 3 dirty dwarves
Not my genre but here to support you guys 😊😊

This game was bad back then and still looks pretty boring. Still will always stop by and give a like to the channel.
Thank you mate we do like to cover a nice wide range. Mark
Just looking at the gameplay footage is giving me a motion sickness
Please review “Surmount”. It will hopefully fill you with the same joy it did for me.
I give it a rating of E... For emulate. 😅
Not my favorite Cotton, but i snatched it up immediately. Plays better than the Dreamcast version, and gets pretty challenging!

Missed opportunity to say a "perhaps a rainbow that should have been for-cotton" during that intro 😅
I DID
@@SwitchUpYt ah yes! Bit embarrassed now as a North London/Herts lad that my ears didn't attune to hearing it! 😅
Never heard of it but looks cool
The cutscenes look so good! But the in-game graphics and the gameplay... Because of that it is a hard pass for me.
Haters gonna hate. This game is a blast.
I had half an eye on this, but after watching this review, I'll be passing this up. I'll put my £20 towards something else.
Gyro?
Easy pickup for me
Looks like you got away with that for-cotton pun 👀
Hehehehe
Hmm. Did you enjoy Cotton Panorama?
Holden loves the series. Mark
I need this!!!
Its hard to make good 3d cute em up.. frankly I cant even recall a single 3d cute me up..hmm
6:19 WTF? 😂
If I can get it later physically for like $20 I would check it out. From your review it sounds not like a day one full price game.
Hazelnut hex is a much better shooter involving a witch. Plus it’s only 8 bucks👍

Think I'll be giving that one a miss. Not the worst game I've ever seen , very colourful but not my thing.

Looks interesting but not fun to me. A turbo controller seems necessary. It’s a watch but not play for me.
Yeah, nah not feeling this one. Enjoyed the for-cotton remark though
Prob could have done with this one staying on the Dreamcast 🤣 and for some reason why did I think rainbow cotton was already on the switch?
You probably got it mixed up with the Megadrive version which shares a similar perspective

This is a remake? Looks like a remaster at best. 😅
Definitely a remaster with some tweaks.
Appreciate the review but seems like an easy skip for me!
I am really put off by the art style, the 3d graphics did not age well
That's interesting. Here I am thinking they are extremely charming and aged beautifully. Just curious what your age is? I'm in my late 30s so I have nostalgia for these kind of graphics. It's probably an age thing.
I am in my mid 40s and to be honest I much prefer pixel art to PS1/2 3D graphics.
Then it’s just a preference thing then. All the best.
So you're argument for it being bad is because its too difficult for you and there's no rapid fire button?
No that wasn't Holden'a argument. Imprecise controls and a lack of precision from them means at that in the later stages it's very unbalanced. At least, that's what I heard. Mark
I'll get it from Japan for the sake of my cotton collection - I already have 5, why not 6? - but I have to say this really looks like garbage ;)
This is for children.
Aw man...this is so disappointing!
Meh
Too many top quality games to justify grabbing one with dated gameplay. Sitting this one out
