Miyoo is not Anbernic. Never had an issue with their devices, but i had many issues with PowKiddy devices. The old Miyoo Mini had screen glue issues, too. So you are save buying the Plus.
Anbernic have just announced the RG35XX H, which is a horizontal version of this handheld, which also includes dual thumbsticks. Spec wise it's exactly the same although the price is currently unknown at the moment. Those looking at this and wishing that it had thumbsticks or those that prefer the form factor of horizontal handhelds (PSP style), might just be better just waiting it out for a couple more weeks, for that instead.

I just find it hard to want to play with anything that cramped with a thumbstick in general. I would prefer a horizontal chassis with the left stick on top for those kinds of games, personally.
Yeah, but that totally defeats the purpose of the device for me. If I'm in a situation where I'm sitting at a table for a while and can use a controller, then I would rather just use my desktop/laptop. Something like the RG35XX or Miyoo Mini would be to take for when I'm in a waiting room or something.
If you plan on adding your own games and doing OS updates, go for the 64, and then replace it with your own bigger card eventually. If you're sticking with the included games and system go for the 128.
Yeah lots of them play fine, but for those that don't it's a PITA to change the controls on a game-by-game basis. I like what Anbernic did with the PSP update, how you can switch the control from dpad to analog with the push of a button. Hopefully they do something similar with Dreamcast at the very least, maybe even PS1 and N64.
The way I see it, the MM+ is the more mature and developed handheld, but this is as good as it's ever going to get for the MM+; no amount of Onion updates will ever improve the hardware it's limited to. From a hardware comparison, the 35XX+ is objectively, unquestionably the superior product. However, right now, the 35XX+ feels like a supbar product, with its stock OS and CFW being in the very early stages; however, this is bound to improve over time, and the 35XX+ will only get better and better with each passing week. In a few months' time, the RG35XX+ will truly be the superior product over the MM+ in virtually every conceivable way. In the future, unless Miyoo releases an even better product further down the line, you'll seem rather silly for choosing to buy the MM+ over the 35XX+. That's my 2 cents, anyway.
Very true. I hope the 35xx Plus becomes all it can be. I'll happily replace my Miyoo Mini with it if the OS can catch up to Onion. For me it's more about the experience using the device, rather than the raw horsepower.
I ordered one of these I cannot wait for it. Technically the RG35XX H would have been the superior option but there was something so nostalgic about the original Gameboy design of the RG35xx Plus that I had to get it. Plus if I want something with that RG35xx H form factor in the future I will probably get the Retroid Pro 4 (or 5 if it comes out by then.)
I have the NON plus 35xx. I have been enjoying it immensely. I was a bit surprised not to find any mario or Zelda games. The shoulder buttons are a tad difficult for my larger hands. I will surely be upgrading to the plus for the Bluetooth connection for tv playability with an external controller. This was a great review
Youll have to find mario and zelda games yourself on the internet for this handheld, ANBERNIC doesnt put them on because of legal issues that Nintendo actually presses on apparantly.
This definitely looks amazing, but I'm going to wait for developers of Garlic OS and others to make their own OS for this device as this looks damn promising.
I'm amazed there are so many handhelds. Will you ever run out of handhelds to review? Also I'm disappointed it didn't come with a HDMI cable. I wish it had the list of preinstalled games. PSone was my favor console of all time.
Ive always said if the RG35XX had the same screen settings as the Miyoo Mini plus i wouldn't even look at the miyoo and Anbernic delivered with the RG35XX Plus :))).
Hi TD!! I hope you're having a great day today! Fun as always. That 35xx+ is interesting, and I hope that Garlic gets even better than Onion, but the Miyoo Mini with Onion sure is hard to beat for a nice time 🙂
I ordered a Miyoo Mini Plus about a week before the 35xx Plus got released. I nearly cancelled because of the extra power and the Bluetooth (who even has wired headphones anymore?!) But I realised, as you pointed out, the higher end games tend to need analogue sticks, so having the extra power but no analogue stick seems a bit pointless. These devices as this price point really are/should be aimed at the earlier/more basic/retro games that were designed to be played with a D-pad. So for the sake of Bluetooth, I'll stick with the Miyoo Mini Plus and enjoy the better software.
Weirdly enough, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think the Bluetooth functionality on the RG35XX Plus even allows for bluetooth headphones at the moment. But maybe an official update or custom firmware will make that possible in the future.
@@Medoritchie yeah I love it. For its purpose (up to PS1 games) I really can't fault it. If you want PS2 upwards then for a bit more money, a horizontal device with analogue sticks will likely make more sense, but if you want truly retro games with a retro feel, I really don't see how you'd improve the MM+
Got one myself and its so bad right now, until Garlic is done which should fix issues. No sleep state, bluetooth is spotty, N64 isn't optomized yet. Needs some more time to shine.
I bought the rg35xx plus and regret it. I can’t put the stock os on a new sd card because I have a Mac and not a PC. And the stock sd card won’t work anymore. So I can’t even use it. I’m so glad I still have my miyoo mini plus. Onion OS makes it super easy for Mac.
@@sonomute you are basically saying that you were successful in putting the stock os that anbernic provides on their site for the rg35xx plus using a Mac, correct? Can you tell us how to do it please? How do you edit the built in partitions that the stock os flashes to your sd card, using a Mac?
Dweeb, tell me young sir, why was one flying Garlic OS 1.27 rather than the latest 1.49? beautiful custom theme, i stole it and played with it, it's amazing btw.
It’s between the RG35XX Plus and the XU10 handhelds for the best and cheap handhelds for under $60 for 2023 the XU10 does more emulation such as PS1 Saturn N64 and Dreamcast
I bought a grey one and love it, but the firmware needs some work. One thing that gets on my nerves is about the last update is that they don't have a gameless version like the one before. The problem I've run into is the image with games like 200MB bigger than my good 64GB SD card. They need to come into the 22nd century and do OTA upgrades. That would fix my issue. Edit: A redditor posted a slimmed-down version of the stock firmware. Yay! Now I can update. Still stupid that I can't do OTA updates and save my settings.
I just don't know where to put bios files. I did the update posted by the redditor but it'll only read GBC and GB games because it can't find the BIOS for GBA or any other console. :(
@@ozarkeusful Do you have a bios folder on the secondary sd card? That should be where they go. If it still doesn't work, try putting them in a bios folder on the main sd card. I'm about to update to the new image, so I'll report back if I have any issues and a fix for it.
@@ozarkeusful Ok, so after installing the new update from reddit, everything worked as expected. My secondary sd card has a bios folder where all the bios files, and the Roms folders have all the roms. The directory structure is different from the original 35XX. Try renaming your Roms folder, stick it back in the handheld and let the system make a new one, then move all of your roms to where they need to be.
@@norezplaysgamesI onle have one 128 GB SD card for the OS so I have my Roms on it too. Currently I have a BIOS folder with all of the BIOS files for every system at the same level in the directory as the ROMS folder. Do you think I should put the folder with all the BIOS in the ROMS folder?
So it's got enough power to run those more advanced systems, but it just doesn't stick 😁 They have announced 35XX H, which will be a horizontal device and will comfortably implement two analog sticks. Which sounded great to me at first - then I figured that H700 and RK3266 are quite evenly matched. What an advancement! On the other hand, AFAIK Rockchip doesn't really share their sources, Allwinner does and, if the price is right, I'll be interested in that one more. Having enough power for more advanced systems, yet lacking in controller department would annoy the hell out of me.
Software really matters so i recently go for miyoo mini plus. rg35xx plus is good if it has analog stick to use full power of the hardware for play higher end system rest and upto ps1 plays the same in both of the system. miyoo mini plus is still the best choice due to onion os and big community of players
I bought one of these and it came in today. Damn, I thought it’d be something I could quickly get up and running, but no, I’ve got to reload software, download new roms, scour the internet for tutorials, etc.
Nice video. I think the Plus looks solid. Yeah custom firmware will bring some helpful stuff, but the original miyoo mini on release was straight trash as well. Not trying to bring whataboutism but as an owner of the mini at launch before Onion was even released to public, thats just the nature of these devices. Not a bad tradeoff to allow people to spend 50 bucks and play thousands of games they dont own, lol. Regarding the performance boost though, it still does help the retro systems for anyone that uses resource demanding features like a combination of shaders and filters, runahead to help alleviate latency, etc. Same reason playing snes on an rk3566 device feels bettee than going back to an rk3326 that can also run the games. As far as lack of analog, thats a no go for n64 but theres tons of psp and dreamcast that dont need them. Rpgs and fighting games are some of the most popular genres to revisit on psp and have many of the low resource demand games that this thing could actually play. Dreamcast also has tons of dpad friendly games considering it is partially popular for the excellent arcade ports which all used digital controls. For every Sonic Adventure, you have a Soul Calibur. Miyoo Mini Plus is still great (and oddly enough is the one i own despite my comment here), but i still see value in the rg35xx plus. Just maybe not worth upgrading from the prior.
My only request would be a slightly taller form factor that more closely resembles the original Gameboy. You also need 1 analog stick if you're trying to play Dreamcast and PS1 games.
@@AidanSeanMor You could, but who wants to carry around a controller for their tiny handheld device? The point was that they gave this device ++ CPU to handle higher level systems... but all of those systems had analog controllers.

You know, this is what kids these days should get as a present, good looking console, w retro games, nothing too huge or packed w online steam or ds games,
I have the regular RG35XX and find it too small for my hands. The controls feel crammed for adult hands. gave it to my little nephew who loves playing F-Zero SNES version on it. I am new to the console world . Can you tell me the best console to buy which can support every retro game and is kinda future proof too and powerful tech wise. I wanna give it to my cousin as a Christmas gift . Budget isn't the issue
I'd say the Odin 2 is probably the best handheld dedicated to retro emulation that is the most 'future proof'. It can play everything that is possible on android. If you want higher stuff like PS3 or Xbox 360 you'd need a handheld PC like an ROG Ally or a dedicated gaming PC.
my 35XX Plus 3.5mm headphone jack stopped working, here's a question, with bluetooth for controllers why can the device not connect to bluetooth headphones? It is driving me crazy that I can no longer use headphones on a device that has BT due to the 3.5mm failing.
Hey Dweeb, in many ways it almost seems like the 35XX has been ahead of the Miyoo mini plus. Why isn't it your go-to for retro games? I only ask because I have both devices, and for me it's a clear choice to pick the 35XX (original model) for the overall comfort and hand feel, in addition to a better speaker and a bit more power. Garlic is good, and the only thing missing is wifi.
I like the pocket friendly shape of the Miyoo mini over the 35xx, I like Onion OS over Garlic OS, and I like having Wifi for Retro achievements. Both are great though, very small differences.
@@TechDweeb I can totally see that now. Definitely more pocketable, for me, that's a huge deal. I'm sure you're excited to review the RG35XX H when you get your Dweeby little hands on it. 😉 It should be a pocket king because of the in line shoulder buttons.
I have both devices and I totally agree. Yes the d-pad on the r36s isn't great compared to the RG35xx Plus but the fact that it has joysticks and in my opinion a better firmware at the moment and is considerably cheaper, makes it a better deal at the moment in my opinion too. Also, the aspect settings for the RG35xx Plus for GBA gbc and OG game boy don't look great at all in my opinion. The HD option looks terrible and dot matrix looks good but makes the screen far more dim. Also I find that the screen on the R36S is more vibrant and has better contrast.

can you solve my issue techdweeb? The gba roms are running perfectly performance wise but there is a audio hiccup now and then, how do you fix it? Should I open my unit up?
Sounds like maybe some sort of slowdown in the system. I would try a fresh SD card to rule that out. And try the new updated OS because there might be a random setting that isn't correct. Also you could try the standalone GBA emulator instead of the retroarch emulator (and vice versa).
I ordered myself a RG405v (Beefy) still in route, but now I want a good Gameboy like Vertical Retro that I can hook up to a TV with HDMI with Wireless controllers any suggestions or options I can go with? I have multiple Anbernic devices that have buzzing/static in the headphone jack and it’s so disappointing. I’d love to buy this one but I just don’t trust them anymore
Another great review from the dweeb. You know, one thing I actually don’t like about the plus model is on the gray DMG version of the original they colored the bezel gray to match the plastic, so it looked like it had no bezels, but on the new one it just has black bezels.
I was so confused because the gray model is the only one that has the letters under the buttons instead of on it . I thought people eere selling fakes.

I like to believe that T.Dweeb's insurance policy includes full coverage for damage caused by spilled root beer seeping into USB A holes.
No insurance company would be dumb enough to give me coverage for things that are 100% going to happen by the end of the week!
12:45 The Miyoo Mini (Plus?) has an Ebook reader?!? No way dude! I'm gonna have to look into this more. 🤯
Yup! Built into Onion OS.
This definitely looks amazing, but I'm going to wait for developers of Garlic OS and others to make their own OS for this device as this looks damn promising.
Love mine, waiting for Onion OS and it will be my new go to handheld!
You mean garlic right?
I'm amazed there are so many handhelds. Will you ever run out of handhelds to review?
Also I'm disappointed it didn't come with a HDMI cable. I wish it had the list of preinstalled games. PSone was my favor console of all time.
No, there is even the 35xx H now. A horizontal 35xx. Not yet available but Anbernic has a preview on there YT channel.
Ive always said if the RG35XX had the same screen settings as the Miyoo Mini plus i wouldn't even look at the miyoo
and Anbernic delivered with the RG35XX Plus :))).
Sold!! Great review ordering mine now.
Hi TD!! I hope you're having a great day today! Fun as always. That 35xx+ is interesting, and I hope that Garlic gets even better than Onion, but the Miyoo Mini with Onion sure is hard to beat for a nice time 🙂
Agreed. Miyoo + Onion is going to be a hard one to top!
💯
Weirdly enough, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think the Bluetooth functionality on the RG35XX Plus even allows for bluetooth headphones at the moment. But maybe an official update or custom firmware will make that possible in the future.
@@sergio_henrique if that's the case I'm definitely glad I didn't go for it, as I don't have a need/desire to use a Bluetooth controller!
@@chrisrye13Yea im thinking of getting the MM plus, how is it so far?
@@Medoritchie yeah I love it. For its purpose (up to PS1 games) I really can't fault it. If you want PS2 upwards then for a bit more money, a horizontal device with analogue sticks will likely make more sense, but if you want truly retro games with a retro feel, I really don't see how you'd improve the MM+
One change I'm not a fan of is the new black bezel on the dmg version. I loved the grey bezel on the 35xx dmg version.
Oh? I'm the opposite!
Got one myself and its so bad right now, until Garlic is done which should fix issues. No sleep state, bluetooth is spotty, N64 isn't optomized yet. Needs some more time to shine.
I’m always happy to hear about advancement in tech but for this I’d rather go with miyo mini +
@@i8ETwell, that's more of an issue with your ability to do perform basic operations than with this device...
@@sonomute you are basically saying that you were successful in putting the stock os that anbernic provides on their site for the rg35xx plus using a Mac, correct? Can you tell us how to do it please? How do you edit the built in partitions that the stock os flashes to your sd card, using a Mac?
@@sonomute hmmm… looks like you don’t know your basic operations either. What a shame that you just like yapping nonsense.

Dweeb, tell me young sir, why was one flying Garlic OS 1.27 rather than the latest 1.49? beautiful custom theme, i stole it and played with it, it's amazing btw.
Thanks buddy. I just haven't updated the OS on that 35xx. I will on the next rainy day.
Was wondering when you'd get to this bad boy... But I was confident you would. Great review...
It’s between the RG35XX Plus and the XU10 handhelds for the best and cheap handhelds for under $60 for 2023 the XU10 does more emulation such as PS1 Saturn N64 and Dreamcast
I have an XU10, review coming soon!
@@TechDweebgreat it has more emulators and games downside is no wifi Bluetooth updates and or hdmi so it’s a good offline handheld
My favorite nerd TH-camr 🎉 thanks for the great content .
Appreciate it!
Between my RG35XX and hacked 3DS I never need to buy a game ever again!
Honestly this would be a completely perfect device if they threw a lil psp slider on it for dreamcast n64 and psp
I'm 100% with you!
The coolest thing is of the game needs an analog stick you use a Bluetooth controller. That’s so cool to me
Great vids as always.
Definitely agree with the OTA updates.
Thanks for the review. About N64, when you say that most of the games are playable, do you mean at 480p ?
Yup. As long as you use the "Rice" gpu plugin.
So it's got enough power to run those more advanced systems, but it just doesn't stick 😁
They have announced 35XX H, which will be a horizontal device and will comfortably implement two analog sticks.
Haha yeah that's what I thought when I saw the 35XX H. "Hmmm, so, we're getting the 351p again, essentially?"
The good hard look segment is truly genius!
Yeah, but now my face hurts.
Can we have a video on optimization for each game platform. I want to get the most out if my unit, but I am a newb and dont want to mess up... Please.
love your reviews, catching up through your videos
Software really matters so i recently go for miyoo mini plus. rg35xx plus is good if it has analog stick to use full power of the hardware for play higher end system rest and upto ps1 plays the same in both of the system. miyoo mini plus is still the best choice due to onion os and big community of players
Keep the great vids coming
Yes sir! (or madam)
your my fav tech nerd not in a bad nerd way
I bought one of these and it came in today.
You also need 1 analog stick if you're trying to play Dreamcast and PS1 games.
cant you work around that by connecting a controller via Bluetooth, which has analog sticks?
@@AidanSeanMor You could, but who wants to carry around a controller for their tiny handheld device? The point was that they gave this device ++ CPU to handle higher level systems... but all of those systems had analog controllers.
@@chiefenumclaw7960 i bought this as a gift for my nephew and I know he has a controller at home, so this can resolve his potential desire to play psp games etc especially once hes older and can learn to program his list of games. I am not saying I wouldnt upgrade for thr controllers but he hasnt owned a handheld before. He is really young and i want him to see some old school games that i also got to play when i was young. He seems to love super mario legos.
So yes. I would prefer included the analog stick as well as it means of convenience. I just didn’t see that there was the new announcement for the RGB 35XX space H model. :(
@@AidanSeanMor This will make an excellent gift for your nephew! I am sure that he will love it. I think I need to buy one of these for my nephew as well. Merry Christmas.
@@chiefenumclaw7960 Merry Christmas buddy!
I really want this device but I think it's going to cause hand cramps during long play sessions.
Having a Steam Deck, I got this to play old games in a small form factor even betterer that the previous model.
Just bought one on alie express for $60
You know, this is what kids these days should get as a present, good looking console, w retro games, nothing too huge or packed w online steam or ds games,
I have the regular RG35XX and find it too small for my hands. The controls feel crammed for adult hands. gave it to my little nephew who loves playing F-Zero SNES version on it. I'm on the look out for a handheld that has bigger screen and can play gamecube games. Odin and steamdecks are too expensive for me
I am new to the console world .
@@TechDweeb does it make sense to buy a modded switch? Future proof enough?
my 35XX Plus 3.5mm headphone jack stopped working, here's a question, with bluetooth for controllers why can the device not connect to bluetooth headphones? It is driving me crazy that I can no longer use headphones on a device that has BT due to the 3.5mm failing.
I hope Miyoo comes out with a Miyoo Mini Plus PRO with a better chipset, bluetooth, and HDMI to compete with this RG35XXPlus. I love my MM+.
That would be epic, especially if it supported Onion right out of the box!
@@TechDweeb I assume the Miyoo Flip will have all those features.
Wait. Higher end 3d systems like ps1 ? Since ps1 didnt actually have a 3d capable processor and this is WELL documented sir.... what do you mean ?

Too bad there's no analog sticks. I've been looking at this one or the R36S. The R36S is cheaper and has the analog sticks.
But the d pad is complete shit
If they just added a little psp slider and a touchscreen without changing the dimensions... we'd be gold.
I think the software and firmware once improved this will be a great device but for now I just think the money is better spent on the r36S
The dpad on the 36s is shit though
I don't want to spend my time and effort to diz shitty dpad. R36s is total miss
Also I find that the screen on the R36S is more vibrant and has better contrast.
gahdamn the price for this is sooooo good for the amount of bang you get for your buck :O
i wish ambernic would just hire black sheriff and make garlic the official xx operating system

No Analogue Pocket for me. Too big and pricey for my tastes.
@@TechDweeb As a Transparent Blue (really grape) AP owner, I agree. It's quite expensive and roughly the size of a 3DS XL. The longer I have it, the more I want to sell it. They're quite fragile, new ones are prone to cracking and chipping, and the company itself is garbage. Don't blame you at all!

Hello and good day to you TechDweeb. The RG35XX plus sounds like a good recommendation. 👍🏾
can you solve my issue techdweeb? The gba roms are running perfectly performance wise but there is a audio hiccup now and then, how do you fix it? Should I open my unit up?
Sounds like maybe some sort of slowdown in the system. I would try a fresh SD card to rule that out. And try the new updated OS because there might be a random setting that isn't correct. Also you could try the standalone GBA emulator instead of the retroarch emulator (and vice versa).
If you're just looking to play GBA and SNES, is there any performance benefit from getting the Plus over the original?
The only benefit, and it's a big one for some people, myself included, is the addition of Wi-Fi so that we can get retroachievements
I ordered myself a RG405v (Beefy) still in route, but now I want a good Gameboy like Vertical Retro that I can hook up to a TV with HDMI with Wireless controllers any suggestions or options I can go with?
