    My compliments to Patrick. Driving a GT2 so smoothly and clean is really a great performance. Must be very confident with the car, with the track and in total control. Well done!

    the guy is taking such a nice smooth line, i can only take a line like that in a video game such as GT4 etc, but there's no way i could in real life without some SERIOUS practice and a whole lot more guts.

    Thanks for the information, Bayer89. This also shows that performance limitations will never allow cars to become faster and faster with advancing technology. It's actually just the opposite on race tracks. I remember Schummi driving a 25 years old turbo Ferrari and beeing afraid of the feeling of danger, even though it was down-powered by 200 bhp. I miss heroes like Bellof, Senna, Clark and Fangio, they raised racing to it's pinacle.

    extremely impressive, surprised he gauged his tires so well. for a car that tops out around 170mph, this is insane. he's obviously grown up racing on this track, my hats off to him.

    @Janusha In factory testing, the Lexus LFA did sub-7:20. And that's a car with "just" 552 hp and 3,260+ lbs curb weight. Of course, it has wonderful suspension, weight distribution, ULTRA light engine, and I totally love it, being a Toyota/Lexus guy. But STILL, the mere power to weight figures say everything. And when you have a car that is light AND has great power/weight ratio, built by Formula One people and Formula One related people, WOW! No wonder it STILL kicks ass even after "centuries".

    The Veyron's 8.0 liter W16 engine produces about 987 hp (1,001 PS) with four turbos, while weighing about 882 lbs (400 kg). That's 1.119 hp/lb. For example, the Lexus LFA's 4.8 liter V10 engine produces about 552 hp without any turbos, weighing less than 359 lbs. That's AT LEAST 1.537 hp/lb. Even the Super Sport's 1,184 hp translate into 1.342 hp/lb. Who would have guessed a few years ago that Toyota/Lexus would make SUCH a great engine... Right there with Ferrari 458 Italia etc.!

  • @jakubkrcma
    @jakubkrcma 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Janusha The thing is that since a humongous over-simplified truck-derived 8.4 can generate 600 hp AND weigh 500 lbs without any forced induction, it makes a sofisticated 8.0 with 4 turbochargers look strange with 987 hp and 882 lbs. The McLaren stuff - 600 PS from 150 kg (330 lbs) engine weight - is amazing. Even if the 150 kg most probably aren't complete. E.g. the GT-R cannot even dream about such power/weight efficiency - despite having essentially the "same" specs (3.8 twin-turbo V8 vs V6).

    Nothing like quick onboard round the Ring and this is a doozy. Great driving and good vid quality.
    Love the torque from the car - so many times he powers out of corners in 4th or 5th, relatively low on revs, and it just screams out of the corner.
    It just seems about 9.5 tenths in a few quick places, though, he leaves some margin. Compare it to the SR8 vid - that is just mad.

  • @MacXpert74

    That driver was Tom Coronel in a Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR. That was a officially timed lap. With that time the Dodge is the fastest production vehicle on the Nürburgring to date. The car in this video is not a production car but a specially tuned version of the Porsche GT2 (996). So actually it's not competing in the same category as the Dodge. I do think the 7.15 is correct though.

    Also: A guy who's boat/yacht repair/modification facilities are right next to my mechanic's garage actually had a Veyron. He sold it after 1 year, unimpressed. He literally called the car's feel DULL. He expected the greatest car ever, as VW/Bugatti claimed, but was let down by the actual experience... I bet he'd love the F1 or the Koenigsegg CCXR or the 458 or the LFA, etc...

    @Janusha The CCXR way is THE way to go - twin-supercharged. No turbo lag, no stupid 4 turbos, "just" two superchargers. Since there are single-turbo engines with over 1,000 hp, the Veyron's ridiculous 4 turbos just underline the lack of reason, especially with the original car's LOW 123 hp/liter. It almost looks like they added weight on purpose... Madness

    @Driftuner Suprisingly, on Monday, August 01, both tracks were connected together! (at least between 12:30 - 1pm when I did my last lap and had to go back home). How happy I was! this is 270 kmh about 165-170mph

    7:40, the estimated Veyron time by Wheels Magazine on touring session, which is never official. "When you double the power of a car at the same weight etc., the lap time usually only gets around 15 % better." Trade-off is handling, traction which require more training skill and also reliability. McLaren F1 might have better power/weight ratio, that advantage is countered by Veyron torque and brale power. Of course, I refer to stock model i.e. unmodified.

    @MrFLViewer I think the Veyron is for people who absolutely HAVE to be able to say: I have the fastest production car in the world (or at least formerly). On the other hand, people with a 458 or LFA etc. want pure racing with a licence plate. The Veyron is more of a pose, I think. It's a car to SHOW other people, what you can afford, rather than actually enjoy. Plus, the top speed is only useful under VERY special conditions. E.g. the LFA is "sluggish" in a straight line, but corners GREAT.

    Quite simply put, this is a tuned car, the GTR35 is a production car which has not been modified and pulled a 7:29, its highly unlikely that a production car will outpace a fully tuned version of an already quick car the 911.

    Though we only had a Suzuki Swift with some changes (suspension, cage, weight reduction etc. but with a stock 125hp engine) and we still managed to loose control at Karussell. We only knew the track from video games and were somewhat surprised by how rough it is when you drive over it with a sport suspension and sport setup in general. We were kicked out of the Karussell but going only 55-60 km/h - no crash :P

  • @jakubkrcma
    @jakubkrcma 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Tippotipo I did not refer to any Veyron time. What was it? But obviously, nobody sane expects the standard Veyron to beat the standard McLaren F1. Not only does the F1 have a marginally better power to weight ratio, but it is, crucially, MANY percent lighter. When you double the power of a car at the same weight etc., the lap time usually only gets around 15 % better. Guess what happens when you cut the weight drastically, while keeping or improving the power to weight ratio...

    @TheKatoom Basically, there are two things I don't like about the Veyron. It is quite heavy (while being praised for being light by the maker) and the use of 7th gear is not seamless. I would even say it isn't fair to call it the fastest car, because the McLaren F1, which it originally dethroned, did mindblowing stuff in a proper, regular way (while being MUCH lighter). Paradoxically, the F1, while being extreme, was a much more practical car for everyday use. Veyron change 4 tires: USD 95,000!

  • @Grumpy_old_Boot
    @Grumpy_old_Boot 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The competition only allowed for street legal cars, so they were in fact on street tires, Porsches often use Michelin Pilots I think, though I'm not sure what brand they used.
    However, street legal it might have been, but if you dig up a photo of it, you'll find that the front splitter is so low, that it would never clear a speed bump.
    So not exactly very road usable then.
    On the other hand, the splitter made the high G-forces possible, so I guess it was a good thing to have. :)

    @Janusha Patriotism? I am Czech. I have never even visited the USA (or any other English speaking country). I just say that ~500 lbs for a ~600 hp engine is OK. It is NOT the best, but the thing is that the Veyron's engine weight is SO extreme that even if it had 2,000 hp, it just could not outrace substantially less powerful and lighter cars. 400 kg for an engine is MASSIVE. They are right when they say the car is light, because to keep SUCH an engine in place takes a ton of LIGHT material...

    Now to this vid.... The GTR was the new R35 GTR OEM that set that time! (roughly 18sec quicker than the R34) and was/is??? the quickest OEM street car around the ring, hotly contested by the only other rival for the title, the porsche!
    (i have seen Dirk Schoysmen drive a Modified 600hp+ Street R34GTR around the ring much faster, hitting 200mph on several parts of the track!)

The record for the real car is 6:47.50, it was made by Marc Basseng and it is the fastest lap ever on this track. I think that if I will learn the Nürburgring Nordschleife better than even the world record will be breakable in the game. However the main point is that when some day I will visit this track everything should look familiar to me (of course except for the car :P).

  • @jakubkrcma
    @jakubkrcma 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Janusha The problem I see with the Veyron is the engine's total weight. That's just inappropriate for a sports car. When you realize that the Viper's 8+ liter engine got about 100 kg lighter through the years (from over 700 lbs to about 500 lbs), while gaining power from around 400 hp to about 600 hp, all that with natural aspiration, the Veyron's "compact" W16 is a monster. It is a gimmick, like the entire car built around it. It's just not right. If it was a 6 liter W16, same power, then OK.

    @Janusha A Ferrari Formula One car (only in qualifying) and a Porsche purpose built racer weighing just 1,764 lbs did those things. I am only interested in and talking about proper (roof, doors, etc. - no "Radical" nonsense), road legal production cars. The GT-R, GT2, Zonda, Apollo, and other times are absolutely believable. But when you take an almost 20 years old car with three seats, amazing refined style, air conditioning, audio, etc. and it STILL can match or beat the newcomers, WOW!

    @Janusha The Viper's engine may be as refined as a hotdog cuisine, but if, for the price, it delivers, I find it OK. And although there are lighter engines with comparable or even higher power, there are also substantially less powerful comparably heavy or even heavier engines. I am solely a Toyota/Lexus owner (having driven many other brands, both privately and work-related - I used to measure real world car performance for living around 2005), so I like e.g. Yamaha-tuned VVTL-i 130 kg/192 PS.

    Dont forget to put 1:100 two stroke Oil API TC into the tank for each fill, because thats good for the carbs and the pistons..modern fuel does not take care of the old engine materials!

    imagine riding your bike through that track. whoo, it would be a freaking endurance event just to finish one lap. would be fun to try, though.
    lol

    @Driftuner I've been on the Ring on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with a new Mercedes C180K. Not really a supercar but nevertheless, I had a lot of fun! I did a Nordschleife with a full GP track under 13 minutes and it was only my 6th lap there :)

    that M3 made 7:22 with traffic. Driver said it was possible for another 10sec less, but they sold the car on an auction :(
    So i guess we'll never find out.

    Umm guys, this is a German car. German place. German video. This is km/h, not mph. So the 270 you saw was about 170 for you. Race cars are not necessarily fast in top speed, but in acceleration. And this car will probably outspeed a Veyron (which can do 250mph) in a straight line.

    Like the old racing saying goes "speed costs money...How fast do you want to go?".

    AWESOME TRACK! THE BEST IN THE WORLD!
    And to think Heidfeld will be there to drive the BMW Sauber F1 car on April 28th! It will be the first time since Niki Lauda's horrible crash in 1976 that a F1 car will drive around the track!

    To think this was done with a car that is almost 9 years old... and it is still one of the quickest cars out there.
    Only Porsche

    Thats some serious driving epsc since the road is rather bumpy.
    Must be kinda dangerous with stiff suspension and high speed

    wow nice driving, very smooth. People struggle to do a lap under 10 min, and he did it 7 min and some change, very impressive. I wish i could drive like that and have the oppertunity to race on the Nurburgring, Closest I can get is Le Circuit Mont Tremblant in Mont Tremblant Quebec, but it's much m uch shorter. great vid. thanks. PS, is it just me or Porsche engines just don't sound all that good?
