  • Hello lovely human beings! Welcome back to my channel. This is the first block in my new crazy quilt project that is garden themed.
    **I wanted to mention that if you use alcohol inks to dye your ribbons or laces as I did in this block, they are not waterproof! I don't intend to ever wash my crazy quilts, but if you decide to use that method on something that you will end up washing, it will be a disaster. So, don't. :-)

    This is the crazy quilt play list that I have up: • Crazy Quilt Projects
    Specifically the video where I show the flip and sew method: • Crazy Quilt Block Tuto...

    I've been wanting to make this type of quilt since I was a child and remember a quilt like this at my grandma's farm house.

      We are often inspired by those who came before us. My grandma did not crazy quilt, but she made regular quilts and she did lovely embroidery. I hope you enjoy making your quilt when you get to it. Thanks for watching! xo

    😍 Love your block! I love anything garden and nature. This is going to be a beautiful quilt. Exciting news for a new granddaughter. You’ve got some fun things in the works. My beautiful beaded brooch came in the mail a few days ago. It is so gorgeous. The camera doesn’t show how beautiful it really is. Thank you again. I love it.
    Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas. 😍🎄❤️
    I would love to see you do a video on beading for fabric. I picked up some glass beads and would love to see you show how you use them. Your work is always so stunning. See ya next time! Hugs. 💕🧵⛄️

    I have enjoyed following you this year and was so excited to see the first block in your new project. You are my best you tube friend! What size and how many small blocks go around the 6 center blocks? I love the slow stitch and crazy stitch together idea, so creative and interesting to look at!

      Awww, that is so nice of you to say! That made my whole day. So, there will be 2 rows of 3 blocks that are 12x12. Then around the outside I will do rows of 6 inch blocks to "frame" the middle six. I hope that helps!! Have a wonderful day! xo

      @sparrowhawkerdesigns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I can't remember the exact weight as I've thrown away the packaging, but it is a very, very lightweight fusible. I love it. There's no drag on the needles whatsoever. I will be at the store later today and I will check the brand and weight for you. Thank you for watching! xo

    I notice people who work on crazy quilts sew crazy squares/blocks and then sew those squares/blocks together to make a full quilt. Why is that? Is it just because it's easier?
    The old crazy quilt I have at home isn't sewn like that and I notice a lot of the originals aren't.

    • @sparrowhawkerdesigns
      @sparrowhawkerdesigns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There actually are quite a few vintage crazy quilts sewn like this, sometimes they were sewn in strips instead of blocks, but you can't tell it unless you really study the quilt closely. I would assume the reason people do it this way is (especially if you're making anything bigger than a 2 foot by 2 foot piece) is because it is just so unwieldy. Imagine trying to embroider the center! Most of the vintage CQs were put together in sections, you just can't tell it because the maker went back over it with appliques etc, so that you get the sense it's just willy nilly when it's not. But many got really inventive and did diamonds, circles etc. If you can find a copy of Penny McMorris's book "Crazy Quilts" check it out. Maybe from the library? The book on the cover is actually put together in sections, too, you just can't tell. here's a video about that quilt. It's only 2 minutes or so long. th-cam.com/video/aidnLEQzGIg/w-d-xo.html Thank you for your question!! And thanks for watching. xo

    • @LifefulLife
      @LifefulLife ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sparrowhawkerdesigns Thank you so much for replying! After looking at my own crazy quilt more closely- you're right, it was broken into sections, they were just much larger! Also appreciate the book recommendation, I recently bought The Magic of Crazy Quilting by J. Marsha Michler, so I'll have to check that one out!
