The Slow Stitching Crazy Quilt Workshop is a 14 video workshop showing all the steps in creating a crazy quilt block. This block is a take on the classic crazy quilt technique, that incorporates embroidery, hand sewing, and mixed media into the final piece. Today's video is the introduction video, that reviews the materials, cuts the fabric pieces, and then sews them down. The next step is to start embellishing the quilt block.

I have been a quilter for over 45 years and I’ve lived with them forever… I have a natural affinity to crazy quilts for some reason. I ‘rescue’ them from flea markets , auctions , antique shops etc. out of respect for all the work & memories that are stitched into each one.
I’ve made several out of many different types of fabric. I have a much different approach than you, but I’m always willing and eager to learn from anyone.
Thanks for taking on this project- we need all the support and practice for this dieing art form from all generations.
    Can’t wait for episode 2!

Thank you, Jayne, for your kind words. I, too, appreciate the work that goes into crazy quilts and quilts, as well. I love the time and effort spent creating a quilt to keep loved ones warm and comforted. And, hand sewn quilts are so precious, so much time has gone into them. My approach is different than a traditional crazy quilt, as you said, yet it takes notes from the crazy quilt with the fabrics, the embellishments, and stitches. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

Thank you for ‘thinking out loud’ and breaking this process down into steps that are easy to follow. You are a natural teacher, you explain things well, and that builds my confidence and motivates me to try new things!

    Hi Daniela:
I know I’m a little late, but will be following this series. I did a heart once and actually cut out the various cardboard pieces so I could trace and cut around the fabrics. Then I pieced them together. Think I did a zigzag stitch because that’s all I knew. Might try again using your stitching ideas. Thank you for the time and inspiration that you share. 💜😎🇺🇸

Not the way I do crazy quilt

My method isn't traditional or functional, like for an actual blanket/quilt, instead based on many of the element of crazy quilting. My method is about the process of stitching for the enjoyment of creating.
