Great video, Alex, love you bringing this DeLorean back to life! One thing to consider as you’re putting it back together is the potential for galvanic corrosion when different types of metals are touching-like steel bolts, nuts and washers held tightly against the stainless steel skin. If you truly want this to be your “forever” car, some extra effort to protect these from contacting each other (for the most part) or switching to stainless fasteners might give you some peace of mind. I’m sure DeLorean didn’t do this because of cost, but they also didn’t think that they were building a vehicle that could last 100’s of years. -Don
@@dwk5234 Hey yeah that's right! All those many studs that snapped off trying to remove them must have largely been due to galvanic corrosion as you say! Yep, you're right. I hope Alex takes heed of your advice & uses stainless fasteners where possible.

I love the DeLorean DMC. Such a beutifull car and iconic. And YES, it is 100% a direct reflection of the iconic Back To The Future (1985) movie(s). Sadly the car was marketed as a "sports-car", but DMC installed a very weak V6 engine in it (V6 PRV engine), and a very odd mixed one as well with engine parts from Volvo, Renault & Peaugot (?) and somehow this mix would be cheaper then the suggested V6 engine, V6 Cologne from Ford (?). The V6 Ford engine was a heavily reliable engine that was well used and delivered good power and durability. Beside this, many DeLorean owners have through the years complained that the electric work on these are its most common issue of problems related to typhical British poor electric installation craft. If it is possible to switch V6 engines in this car I don't know, but it would be awesome it it is possible. There must be some good fitting V6 engines that could work (?) I feel this car truly deserves a better engine with more power and speed.
So fun to watch someone clean and detail this project that he just loves. Reminds me of when I first got my 2004 Toyota MR2 Spyder. I cleaned everything and explored every nook and cranny of that car. Pretty fun in deed.
Glad to see you rescued this car. I'm slowly restoring DeLorean 3337. I can smell that interior from here 🤮 That sound when you stuck the vacuum in the dash side vent!
About 15 years ago I worked at a shop that was a certified Delorean repair shop, they were nightmare’s to work on because when they got towed in they were always in rough shape. Still fun to be around so many at one time . Watching this brought back so many memories thank you for that. 👍🏻👍🏻😎
So many have low miles from sitting so long seems like the always conked out before they ever made it to 20k miles one down the street from me has been sitting since 1989 still has its original tires flat 9k miles on it
Hey Alex, Love this content, huge BTTF fan here! Watching your videos on this car it seems like it has a lot more miles on it than you were thinking. The wear on the seats, the sludge caked on the engine. I think it has 116k not 16k. Which makes sense as it was driven for 10 years before being put away. Not sure it matters, just something I have been thinking about. I am very glad you got one of these, have fun!
This is like watching every step of my wife and I with our Delorean. Paid $12,500.00 for ours. It was sitting in a barn for 20+ years. Similar condition but more rust issues than yours. The frame was rusted out. You made some mistakes and had some incorrect info but so didn't I at that stage. The whole time you were cleaning I was saying "Do that later! Focus on getting the car running first!" But...once again I did the same thing. You just can't help yourself! Not sure why you were doing so much work under the car with it not up in the air. 🤔 I hate laying on the ground. Are you on the Delorean forums? I have a log of our (my wife snd I) project on there. Up to over 400 pages and over $50k invested so far. Keep up the good work!
This is by far the best series you have done. It's absolutely amazing. But please make it a manual transmission. That would just be the cherry on top of this iconic restoration.
I saw Back to the Future part 2&3 last night and chuckled to myself at how much fun Alex must be having with his Time Machine. Never a dull Saturday morning moment with LSC. Max killing the edits too lately. Good work all around.
Lookin' good! With the interior all stripped down you can take the opportunity to line as many panels as possible with Dynamat to improve noise insulation. I doubt that was even a consideration when it was initially assembled.
An hour long videos almost and it felt like it wasn't long enough. Could watch this for another hour and noticed the time. Great video can't wait for the next one.
Hi Alex. My name is Lucky Omezi, I'm a Nigerian living in Nigeria.... The back to the future movie made most of us love the Delorean (for some weird reason). I want to say thank you for your Delorean project because that's the only way a person like me would ever get to see it taken apart.....Thank you !
You are a pleasure to watch/listen to even when you are faced with stuff that would piss the heck out of most working on a car! Amazing how you do things without fear. That's what experience will show us and what it takes. Enjoyed watching and look forward to the next one in the near "future". Had to say it.
That's beyond satisfying to remove all the dirt n grime. But what's even better is the feeling when you reach the finish line.. I'm here for all of it!! I'm more than interested in finding out whether you modify this car. You're not the kind of guy to drive something under 200hp. I love the consistency and length of these videos, brother. Keep them coming. That's why DeLorean went broke he used all those nuts and bolts to secure a bumper 😂
hello alex Been waiting for this episode, which seems like ages. And you seem to be so particular in everything you do.And I think if anybody can do it, you can.
@legitstreetcars if you’ve never used turtlewax carpet and interior cleaner I highly recommend it. It comes in green cans. It’s the best stuff I’ve ever used to clean carpets. I’ve used it to get coke stains out of carpet. It turns the stuff to look like new. Pretty crazy stuff. I’ve never even used a drill attachment to agitate it. I’ll have to try that.
I am going through many of the same trials with my current resto-mod. I have a 1975 Trans Am and 75 was a crossover year so there are many one-year-only parts on the car and not a lot of documentation on the disassembly process. I even have a original GM shop/service manual and it does not show everything.
The way the headliner cover wraps over the structure, then the trim goes on, is almost the exact same way you'd find a Fiero headliner with a sunroof going in. Guess who forgot to leave the extra material once! *cough* And that seal you're taking off looks REALLY like generic off the shelf D-seal that we used at a trailer manufacturing place I worked at recently. Should be easy to find.

Cheers to the Master!!! Stay Legit Alex...B~
There is a lot of that interior that appears very similar to the Fiero my buddy had back in 1992. Center consul and controls, maybe it was the style back then lol.
You definitely had me cringing when you were prying on the T panel. It is possible to remove the headlight assembly without taking the front off. The number with the X on the door is the key code. Overall your doing a good job. Fun fact a lot of the little shims were added when they arrived in the states. The QAC guys used cases of them. If your state allows for it, ditch the original exhaust. VIN 3500
I was thinking that same thing watching him yank on the T panel. It fun to watch new delorean owners learning about their cars. I was yelling those are the front body bolts when he was washing the trunk lol. Vin 3408
Spent a few hours in the Delorean ‘factory’ in Houston, about 15 years ago, talking to their VP about Porsche 928’s of all things, of which he just bought 6 of. I was showing how mine was from factory, so he could rebuild the ones he bought. It was great, they essentially bought everything from the original factory in Ireland. There were rows and rows of Delorean parts, including transmissions, doors, hoods, engines, etc. etc. They had jigs to essentially rebuild the rusty frames (which were just regular steel), where they’d take the original VIN plate and graft it on to the ‘new’ frame/car, to make a new/old/original/restored car. The cars were ‘cool’. The engines were dogs and they knew it. Low HP but still there was the cool factor. They even had a red painted car, that was much lower in $ than an unpainted stainless car, but someone wanted theirs painted from the factory. Good times and I have lots of pics somewhere. Thanks for doing this series!!!!
Eat your heart out Hoovie lol Alex has taken your throne for buying the most hooptie of hoopties 😂 😂 Alex please keep these Delorean Vids coming, i love this car even though it is the slowest sports car of the 80s. I mean Lotus was the only other company making cars out of a shed back in the day.
My father in law was a quality manager in the Dunmurry factory. Although, after watching this and seeing the shims flying everywhere I'm not sure how much quality management there really was 😂. He once told me he was in charge of developing the quality standards, someone "got hold" of a Ford factory quality manual and they basically copied it......perhaps with some shortcuts.
Used Clyde's on my E350 Cabriolet on the leather wheel, and seats. No problems, fade or transfer. I still have my dad's OG Escort Radar Detector with the box! I'm really looking forward to watching the restoration videos.
I love this resto. Not gonna lie the DeLorean's 130 hp engine is a severely under powered specimen. Would love to see you modify it for more power or even an engine swap of some kind. I hear the Kia Stinger GT Twin-Turbo V6 with 365 hp fits nicely (hint hint)
Hi Alex, What a real shame the previous owner of the DeLorean did think to set out a series of mouse traps/bait around the car while in storage. Unfortunately the mouse damage is horrible and just about everywhere in the car. Had the owner taken the necessary precautions early on, your workload would have be significantly reduced. A lot of hard work ahead. Oh well, best of luck with the restoration!
(Just hit the wrong bloody key which made the post disappear... hate it when it does that. My apologies if it actually posted, but I don't see it.) Anyways... Great Job, Alex. You have the patience of Job, so to speak. Detailing is a tedious job. Barn finds are sometimes (maybe usually?) not unlike what you found with this DeLorean. I once tried to buy a barn find from a local fellow who's shop repaired cars. He found a 72 280SE 4.5 in dark green with palomino leather and low miles. It all ran but needed a tune-up, rebuilt trans and a new diff. The fuel system was cleaned out (another tedious job) and the rear half was resprayed in the factory color. Looked gorgeous and I made an offer, which was generous, but he had just received a call from a buddy in LA (a director) and he wanted it along with a Porsche Speedster. Ugh. We'd still have that car if he had accepted my $7k offer. That was back in 1983.
How are not more cars made with stainless steel bodies? It's insane how there's zero rust and this car cleaned up so well! Props to the Tesla Cybertruck for bringing back stainless steel
Hey Alex, I'm lovin the DeLorean videos!!! You are an excellent instructor, you explain what you're doing in a way that everyone can understand!!! Great Scott!!! 👍👍🙂
If I remember right, DeLorean went bust while they had enough parts to build another hundred cars sitting on the shelves, they guy tried to revive the car about 20 years ago but failed again.... all those parts are sitting there somewhere
I couldn’t stop smiling thru the entirety of this video. I gave the thumbs up the moment I saw that car!!!! Wasn’t there a company making replicas and buying back old ones to fix and resale? Any hoot, thank you, sir, for this vid!!👍🏾
Yeah that PRV is definitely not a very efficient engine, so even with the relatively light body, it does not surprise me that the DeLorean weren't that good on mileage... maybe the manual could be a little bit better. Absolutely amazing detailed video on how to disassemble a DeLorean, this (series) should be marked as a whole tutorial. Just amazing job!
DeLorean Forsenics 101! I hope your don't get sick from all the mold and rodent excrement. 😮 Great job on the seats! They look like new! I SO appreciate your attention to detail and taking us along for the adventures. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
One word. WOW! Love the attention to detail that you exhibit. I, like you, if its apart, clean it and fix everything you can to avoid going in there again.
I remember working on the power windows or door locks of an Escort in the 90's. The wires broke where they flexed as the doors opened and closed - and I think you have the same thing going on. From what I can tell, newer cars are set up so the wires twist instead of bend, but this requires an offset in the passageways so the wires run parallel to the hinges. If that's not possible, consider splicing in a length of very finely stranded wire such as is used for test leads. Finely stranded wire holds up much better to movement. Enjoyed the video and learned a lot about the internsls of a car that I always admired!
Did you know that Lotus Cars in Hethel in England did a lot of prototype work on the Delorean cars ? I was an Auto Electrician for Lotus in their Engineering/Development department , although i did not work on the Delorean cars i saw John Delorean in the department a few times...
Love the channel buddy. When I initially saw one of your videos it came after a Mat Armstrong video and it seemed similar so I took a gamble and I’m really glad I did. It was the space van, and your dedication to complex investigation and fearlessness to discovery had me hooked. You, like Mat are always positive and that’s refreshing. Now for my one and only complaint from the myriad videos I’ve watched. It’s pronounced New-Clea-Urr, not New-Cue-Lurr!! You’re too intelligent to ever mess this up again. I mean, you are the one to mention Oppenheimer after all. 😀. And as far as this Delorean is concerned, holy hell I’m pretty sure you got the holy grail of barn finds. I haven’t watched the third video yet, but it’s my guess that this thing is going to clean up to be ridiculously clean and the motor runs, and I’d bet it’s actually in good shape. This car find is truly unheard of, and I’m glad it was you that found it as in a way your experience is our experience. Thanks for all of that, and I’m glad your living revolves around your passion instead of a job.
Awesome car! So fun to watch it come back. The thought occurred to me while you were cleaning the interior that you need a steam cleaner. Disinfectant and super clean at the same time with even less product.
Just a note for you on using the wire wheel on stainless, likely the wheel was not stainless as a result you contaminate the stainless with non stainless and then that stainless can actually rust.
Do you guys think it's realistic to have this car restored and running and driving by Halloween?
Yes. You can do it🎉

_At __11:43__, love the subtle _*_Zoolander_*_ reference. LOL_
Alex you are like a machine! Once you get going there is no stopping you! Great work so far and love the car...
The bracket you found with the spare wheel is the front licence plate holder.
Was gonna say the same. 👍
OMG don't stop this video. Need 24/7 live video! Just can't get enough of it.
This channel is really really good! Huge detail and long format… heaven
That's beyond satisfying to remove all the dirt n grime. But what's even better is the feeling when you reach the finish line.. I'm here for all of it!! I'm more than interested in finding out whether you modify this car. You're not the kind of guy to drive something under 200hp. And so many current owners have modified their cars with with the body and or power. I'm with ya for all of it!! Let's go!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Needs an LS swap for sure, or perhaps a Turbo Buick V6 would better fit the engine bay and the overall 80's theme of the car... 😁

Just awesome... DeLorean are a work of art. Its great seeing you do this restoration. Keep up the great work... its much appreciated
Really liked the pace of your teardown, and not afraid to tackle whatever unknowns. These are extremely under powered from factory. Would be cool to turbo charge!
It prob would have a bit more power if it was a manual
@colinhayward9184 this thing is an automatic? 🤢
Wow Alex the fun you where having taking about this car especially the bumpers is crazy but definitely worth it. The cleaning you do is incredible this car is gonna be almost brand new when your done.
Can’t wait for the power train video for this car. This is like a history class!
If you stay committed to this car and don't get side tracked with other projects.. ABSOLUTELY I see you having the car ready to take the wife and daughter out in for Halloween.. I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK BUDDY !!!
Great restoration project. Learning how to further inspect barn find vehicle's. Don't forget to pull the dash to see what mice left inside there.👍
LOVE this series!! So cool to see this beautiful special car restored!
So I said I was excited for this series but i lied, im over the moon for this series! I cant wait to see the process and what this car looks like when your done! So excited Alex, and your doing a great job so far!
Me 2..
Amazing what you can do with all that space and equipment on hand! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. So much work going on behind the scenes.
Love this channel! Your restoration tips have been incredibly helpful.
Great content. I'm here for the long haul cause you don't see such a cool project every day. That stainless steel looks so good after the cleaning. It's really kitchen worthy. 🌟
My favorite part is the T roof panel removal. I was rooting for you to find the tape! This is an awesome restoration project. Thanks!
Alex: "And now it's time to blast everything back in time." ..I see what you did there. Very nice
This is an absolutely fascinating series, thank you so much for taking us on the journey with you! So much more interesting because you don't know what to expect!
I love how bodged together this car is :D
LS swap it
Loving this project! Great work Alex!!!! Good luck👍 love from the U.K 🇬🇧
It actually looks pretty good, not that I'm conducting the restoration work, but yeah, it looks doable for Halloween. Just don't specify which year, and you'll be fine.
Outtakes are awesome. Love the transparency and dedication.😎🇺🇲🙏
28:00 Life in the auto power washing lane.
I'm OCD, and this is so satisfying to watch.
I love the consistency and length of these videos, brother. Keep them coming. That's why DeLorean went broke he used all those nuts and bolts to secure a bumper 😂
Thanks!
@@LegitStreetCars I'd watch 8 hour videos. Just livestream it!
@@LegitStreetCars ask regular car reviews.....he knows a dude in Pennsylvania that has and does LS swaps
@@clevelandmaker386 Josh is in Chicago and works with Mike at DMC Midwest Alex has already met him.
hello alex Been waiting for this episode, which seems like ages. And you seem to be so particular in everything you do.And I think if anybody can do it, you can.
Saturday and LSC. A bond that must never end
Never!!
Better than the Saturday “Power Block”!
Alex, these cleaning video’s are so satisfying! Keep up the hard work.
The way the headliner cover wraps over the structure, then the trim goes on, is almost the exact same way you'd find a Fiero headliner with a sunroof going in. Guess who forgot to leave the extra material once! *cough*
And that seal you're taking off looks REALLY like generic off the shelf D-seal that we used at a trailer manufacturing place I worked at recently. Should be easy to find.
Allritey Buddy, We all know what you are feverently looking for on all of those little compartments & Crannies About the car, Does Anyone know if YahYo holds up in time? I r never had aged Blow? Humhh... I just bought A 77 Vette as my 1st project ever! I got it for 6k it runs & drives Sweet, It's all about the money to get it painted, I think I got the rest, You will knock this one Out like you have all of your other Projects!!! Cheers to the Master!!! Stay Legit Alex...B~
There is a lot of that interior that appears very similar to the Fiero my buddy had back in 1992. Center consul and controls, maybe it was the style back then lol.
@@dmcgOR7644 - John D DID work for GM going back decades, so no doubt styling cues rubbed off on him.
Vin 3408
You make some really good videos, man. This is my favorite restoration so far I can't wait to see how it comes out!
So excited for this series
You got this!!! Just replace the flux capacitor 😂
No one made a stand-alone harness for the stinger yet
@@funnypranker34dont most people build their own harness for engine swaps anyway?
Seems like it’s worse than I would’ve thought, but glad you are persevering and getting through it.👍
Hi Alex, What a real shame the previous owner of the DeLorean did think to set out a series of mouse traps/bait around the car while in storage. Unfortunately the mouse damage is horrible and just about everywhere in the car. Had the owner taken the necessary precautions early on, your workload would have be significantly reduced. A lot of hard work ahead. Oh well, best of luck with the restoration!
I had never seen a DeLorean taken part before.I really learned a lot.very fascinating.
(Just hit the wrong bloody key which made the post disappear... hate it when it does that. My apologies if it actually posted, but I don't see it.)
Anyways...
Aluminum is less expensive, lighter and easier to form
Hey Alex, I'm lovin the DeLorean videos!!! You are an excellent instructor, you explain what you're doing in a way that everyone can understand!!! Great Scott!!! 👍👍🙂
Here's the next DeLorean Video! th-cam.com/video/7mdW8VuFspc/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic video. Its so cool to see the nooks and crannies of a car like this that you would normally never get to see
DeLorean Forsenics 101! I hope your don't get sick from all the mold and rodent excrement. 😮 Great job on the seats! They look like new! I SO appreciate your attention to detail and taking us along for the adventures. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
Alex I’m loving the Delorean series!!!! I can’t wait for the next video!!!!!
Loving the Delorian, that Clyde’s leather care is “TOTALLY LEGIT”
Its interesting because not a lot people take a delorean apart.
Love your Videos
I don't know why but watching Alex vacuuming it's so satisfying..
ALEX WE NEED MORE SPACE VAN CONTENT!!!!!!!!!!!, but i love the delorean to lol
5:45
You should've probably separated seat and backrest, to really get all of the dirt and mold.
One word.
This is the right way when getting a car and do a real detail job and he doesn't go cheap and always very clean . Thank you Alex
Now this is different!! Love to see you tear it apart!
