    As someone who owns a 5900x, i honestly dont see a reason to upgrade at least for like another generation. It doesnt give me any troubles, has more than enough cores, and temp output isnt wildly hot.

      honestly I have the 5900x.... honestly it's not that great. Upgraded to 5800x3d and saw a really small improvement but way less stuttering when on ultra settings on like any game I play. So yeah. Take that with a grain of salt.

      @@chrissoutdoorsgardening1261 As a 5900x owner, don't go with that unless you need those cores for productivity. If you're primarily a gamer, get the 5800x3D. I'd trade my 5900x for a 5800x3D right now... and am planning on "upgrading" to a 5800x3D as I can sell the 5900x and get a 5800x3D for practically no loss in money.
      When I got this thing (5900x), I knew it would be overkill.... but you just don't realize HOW overkill it is. It is so overkill (cores/threads) that it's not even funny. You need a 4090 to push 55% in the games that were hitting that. Typically, I see 8-15% CPU utilization with a 6700XT 12GB. Some games might do 30%, and that's with task manager open, HWiNFO64 running, Steam, Xbox App, EA Play app, Ubisoft Launcher and Epic Games Launcher running. Albeit those aren't really doing anything, but I'm just saying... There are 2-3 games that push me to 40-45% and that is like BF5 and BF2042... I can't even think of the 3rd one. Mind you, Task Manager shows an inflated percentage that's not really what your CPU is doing. With HWiNFO64, I hit 132.7% CPU usage according to Task Manager. Most monitors you're seeing in game are using that (Core Utility) vs what they are really doing (Core Usage).
      Sure, BeamNG Drive if you throw a ton of traffic being AI driven on the map or something. But there's nothing that averages 50% usage for me. I get 30% in Cyberpunk at the most. I've got G.Skill Ripjaws dual rank RAM running at DDR4 3800 C16 with a 1:1 IF (1900mhz), so I'm even getting the best performance from the CPU. Also a per core tune with Curve Optimizer, +175mhz boost, I usually run at 4.75ghz in games on average in HWiNFO64 if they put enough load on the cores. I've got Asus Performance Enhancement turned on my Asus ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming W-Fi II which means 1000 watt PPT/1000 amp TDC/180 amp EDC limit. It just works better in gaming than PBO. This all means I gained right around 300mhz+ in all core loads for benchmarking in, for example, CPU-z Stress Test on SSE. But I do get higher clocks in games than at stock, not that I can notice anything as I am running that 6700XT 12GB @ 1440p max graphics settings.
      The only time it gets 100% usage and is faster than an 8-core is during shader compilation lol. And that's also the only time I really benefit from the PBO settings like that, as I don't cap at 142 watts like the stock PPT. I can hit up to 190 watts in Prime95 AVX or usually 165-170 watts during shader compilation. Those are where I hit my 180 amp EDC limit. And how much is that REALLY helping?
      A 5800x3D, on the other hand, is on par with a 7800x non 3D in gaming. It's on another level when it comes to gaming and is kind of like upgrading to a non x3D AM5 set up, really.
      It's just unfortunate that they came back and made freaking 5600x3D's but didn't make 5900x3D's. A 5900x is 2x 5600x's, anyways. It has 2x CCD's, so they could have done it. BTW, that's another "negative" on having a 5900x. A 5800x and 5800x3D are both single CCD CPU's. Now, theoretically, yes, less latency with the cores communicating like that, but really, ya never see a 5800x beat out a 5900x in gaming because the 5900x clocks higher. It's rated at 4.8ghz, but it actually hits 4.95ghz out of the box, all stock, on the first CCD. It's the second CCD that only goes to 4.8ghz all stock, hence the 4.8ghz rating. I even set a negative offset on the CPU of -.05v so that it can boost higher while running cooler.
      I just ran CPU-z with 12 or 14 tabs open in chrome, HWiNFO64 running and got 611.8 single core/9906.5 multi-core. 4575 to 4600mhz all core load in that.
      Don't let that ego talk you into getting a lesser CPU because "muh cores" like I did. I figured this thing would last years.. but then came x3D on Zen 3 and I was like "well, there goes that" and I got to see just how much non-x3D Zen 3 really does hold back games... even on a 6700XT in the newest games from 2023/2024.
      I had an R5 3600 first. Then got the 5900x, which killed/popped a mosfet or something on that board after 6 months (Asus STRIX B450-F Gaming II). So you also better have a B550 board if you get a 5900x as the stock 142w PPT is too much for any B450 board. They really aren't made to handle that. This board has an 8+4 pin set up for the CPU power and is 12+2 instead of 8+4 VRM set up like my last board.
      But, actually, a 5800x has the same stock PPT/TDC/EDC settings, too, so... eh. I dunno, man. Maybe my handful of PBO tests on that B450 board damaged it.

    I upgraded my AM4 platform a few times over the last 3 or 4 years. From 3600, to 3700x... then I sidegraded from 3700x to 5600 for better singlethreaded performance, and the system was snappier. Then, I started to do video editing, and upgraded to 5800x. Awesome CPU. I could have stayed there for the upcoming years, but, a drop in price, last week, for the 5900x, came. I decided to do a last upgrade on my AM4 platform, to skip entirely the 7000s series, and leap over it... Multittreaded performance is awesome on that chip. I have 64Gb 3600mhz CL16 ram and a RTX 4070 and a MSI B450 Gaming plus Max mobo. I don't see why someone could not use this over the next 5 years. AM4 has been a legendary platform!

      Hope you stick to gaming with that 5900x on a B450 board because the VRM set up is not capable of handling a 5900x/5950x with the stock 142w PPT for too long. 9-12 months if you're doing much 100% load stuff. Gaming should be fine as you'll typically only see 90-100 watts... the same that a PBO 3600 can pull at the max load. But if you do encoding and peg it at 142 watts, or use PBO and start pulling 180 watts (because it isn't capable of pushing a 5900x to 200+ watts), then you'll pop a mosfet.
      Ask me how I know.

For any games that you end up hitting CPU bottlenecks in, just up your graphics settings to max out your GPU. I think you are correct about the data, but I have to say: guys, for the sake of God, you're playing 130+ fps, what difference will it make for your game? It's a ton of fps! Some years ago we were struggling to get 60 fps with Dual Cores and Quad Cores CPUs, now you have a 12-Core CPUs that can give you 130+ fps and you're talking about bottleneck... Of course it is, but does it really matter? Bottleneck always will exist, if doesn't we would have inifinte fps...

    • @40Sec
      @40Sec 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The biggest reason for 240+ fps in games is going to be reducing brain-based motion blur. You can get by at lower framerates if you're using black frame insertion, but unfortunately the sample and hold nature of LCD screens really requires ultra high framerates for clear visuals. That doesn't mean you're necessarily going to have a bad experience, but it really depends on what you're playing.

    • @JustAGuy85
      @JustAGuy85 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your motherboard WILL die trying to power a 5900x. It doesn't have the VRM set up for it. That's why it's acting weird, you already have something failing. It can't supply the same voltage as it did in the beginning.
      You need a B550/x570 to handle a 5900x hitting 142 watts stock for extended periods. And if you're using PBO, there's no way it's able to handle the 200 watts with a 180 amp EDC limit that it can pull. It can pull more with a higher limit, too.

    AFAIK 50% GPU 50% CPU “bottleneck” means perfect config balance!
    Any balance shift is also OK as long as FPS numbers are acceptable.
    This “bottleneck” means how much CPU and GPU time was spent to render the frame.
    Can’t agree with you on “probably you shouldn’t pair 5900x with 4090”
    Based on what i saw in your video You can pair it with 4090 and you will get additional performance compared to, for example, 4080. We don’t have any dramatic CPU bottleneck. Ok, may be you wanna run cs2 on 360Hz monitor then yes. But 244 is still VERY DECENT for anyone except REAL PRO players.
    My opinion: 5900x holds strong to this day (Q4 2024) and could be used with 4090

    None of the tech tubers say anything about more cores equallying smoother frame times in unreal engine 5. It is so much better with more cores. A 12 core is night and day versus a six core and a 16 core is night and day versus a 12 core. The 7800X3D and 5800X 3D get more frames but their frame time is stuttery compared to the 16 core older chip or even the 12 core older chip. Test it for yourself. It's crazy that nobody brings that up and it makes such a huge difference when it comes to playability in first descendant for example.

    I really don’t want to be mean, but for a game like AC Mirage you clearly can see that the CPU is not the issue if the utilisation is around 40%. And I think the biggest bottleneck in these games was RAM if you had 16GB of it. I have a 1600x (planning on buying 5900x) and 4060 and 16GB DDR4 which is being utilized 100% for most of those titles you showed, so it’s clearly a RAM issue. I think you’d have more fps if you had 32GB.

  • @Phemruto
    @Phemruto หลายเดือนก่อน

    what the hell do you mean. if the game ran at over 100 fps at 1440p ultra wide then the answer is yes.
    Why would any one ever spend $3000 AUD for a 4090 to run it in low 1080p.
    The answer to this is No the 5900x does not bottle neck the GPU and the CPU is still viable for modern gaming.

    Even much more so in 4k where the 5900x would have little problem in bottlenecking those high end GPU´s

    Blows my mind people spend $1600 for Titan GPUs that aren't even meant for gaming.
    Nvidia really took customers for a ride renaming the Titan lineup to the 90 series.
    Yet the fools line up to buy this stuff no wonder Nvidia keeps reporting record profits.
    Since the 3000 series the only decent cards were the 3080's with 3090's being misrepresented and anything under a 80 series being junk
    Same is true with the 4000 series only worse, only decent card is the 4080 with anything under not even PCI x16 junk.
    My 1080 Ti from 2017 runs circles around any of the 3000 series short of the 3080 and even that isn't a huge improvement.

      @@mgtruckin yup I had bought a 3070 Ti and to be honest any improvement to the 1080 Ti wasn’t noticeable least in the games I play. I’m sure it’s better at 4k but with only 8GB vram it’s gonna max that out fast.
      The 3080 is better but not really by much. Bought what was supposed to be the 12GB variant which for me would hold me over easy 5 years as I’m looking to upgrade to 1440p but instead was sent the regular 10GB version which in 2023 for a 80 series card is just pathetic. Had wanted to just get a 3080 Ti but not for the prices they still ask for them. Not my fault someone was dumb enough to pay $2000-$3000 for it few years ago.
      Thinking of just getting rid of both and just keeping the 1080 Ti, works great and runs a lot cooler than the 3080 does.

    Not true at all. You can easily pair the 4090 with 5900X but it only makes sense at 4k. Anything lower will bottleneck even with the fastest cpu out there. Resolution presented here is some 21:9 widescreen variant which is not even close to 4k load on your gpu. At 4k you are mostly gpu limited but 4090 for sure is pushing the boundaries even at such a high resolution. A lot of people have this combination including myself and the framerates at 4k are basically identical to 7800X3D in most cases. Of course 7800X3D is much faster no doubt about it but it will show only on lower resolutions or in some really cpu intensive games. Most of the times it is 0 to 5% difference. 1% lows are for sure a thing here but nothing groundbreaking. I was actually amazed how it can hadle 4090 either undervolted, stock or heavily overclocked. Your best bet now is AM5 with 7800X3D with later path to ryzen 9000. I would already grab that but I just want the latest chipset coming with ryzen 9000. Then sell my 4090 and replace it with 5090. If the rumours are true and the uplift is yet again another 50 to 60 or even 70% I am all in....Shame that AMD is leaving the high end for the next gen. The 5090 will be unchallenged like 4090 nowdays.

    Remember, the 5900x has two core complexes that communicate with each other via an "infinity fabric". "Infinity fabric" clocking plays an important role in this type of processor. The larger they are, the more efficiently and faster the cores will communicate with each other. This plays a big role in games that use multiple cores and distribute their work over two core complexes.

    A more realistic test would have been with something like RTX4070/ti/7800XT.
    How much more FPS would you get from a 7900X compared to 5900X with one of those cards?
