    One of my right upper molar tooth broke a bit and I got scared. I had been feeling something sort of a cavity over there when my tongue touched that part, but after that tooth broke, I got to realise that the tooth feels brittle and my tooth has decayed significantly. I consulted at a govt Hospital, and the Doctor told me there is cavity, but a filling or restoration would do and prescribed me an antibiotic and told me to come back after 3 days. But because of me always travelling and never staying in one place for a long time, I could not attend there again. However, on 10th July, while I was in Bhubaneswar, I went to Apollo Hospital for consultancy, and the Doctor told me I need a RCT. And I was feeling high sensitivity when I ate ice cream over that tooth. Doctor told me the decay has reached till the pulp part. Thus I got a RCT done on 11th of July from Apollo Bhubaneswar with GIC filling I guess. Since then I have not been feeing any sensitivity on my tooth per se. However, I feel something a bit different at the nearby tooth gums and that tooth gum as well. I have been told to get a crown after 21 days or 3 weeks since 11th July, 2024. But after seeing videos of how crowning is done by trimming significant tooth to a perpendicular cylinder or pillar and the fact that the cap or crown will come off and is not a permanent fix, after years and if not taken proper care of, I am worried, anxious, upset and confused what to do next. And whom to consult. Hope you see this and respond accordingly.

  • @owlpath4280
    @owlpath4280 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello, Dr. Upasana. About a year ago, I had a molar receive a porcelain crown. Unfortunately, I then had to have a root canal. My regular dentist, who put the crown on, referred me to an endodontist and said to come back after the root canal to get a new crown. The endodontist said he was putting a permanent filling in the drilled hole, so I would not need a new crown. What is your opinion? Thank you!

    • @DoctorUpasana
      @DoctorUpasana  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if you had a crown earlier it’s always advisable to get a new one. You shouldn’t be leaving it without one.

    • @owlpath4280
      @owlpath4280 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DoctorUpasana Thank you. I may have not been clear. The crown was never removed but was drilled through to perform the root canal, then the hole in the crown was filled. I suppose the question is will this filling in the porcelain crown actually be "permanent"?

    • @DoctorUpasana
      @DoctorUpasana  ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have to replace the crown even in this scenario. The filling is permanent but the crown is compromised due to the access opening created for the RC. Your dentist will remove this crown l, letting the filling be in place, and then replace it with a new one. Hope this helped to address your concern 🙂

    What about a fracture from clenching/grinding at night?
    Also, what material do you most recommend for a crown? Thank you! 🙏

    • @DoctorUpasana
      @DoctorUpasana  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! If you are a bruxer and you are grinding your teeth at night then certainly go for a crown. It’s better to be prepared than sorry. Teeth clenching can cause tooth fractures.
      For you the ideal choice of material would be zirconia. It doesn’t chip even when patients have moderate to high clenching.
      Let me know what you think about this and what type of crown you finally opted for 🙂👍

      @sunkissedheart347 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Doctor Upasana Thank you for replying. I am most definitely a bruxer. My dentist has recommended a night guard and he wants to put a ceramic/porcelain crown. I am wondering if zirconia is more expensive and how much would it be in comparison?🤔

      @@DoctorUpasana hi, thank you! So I checked and you mentioned if the decay is less, but when I checked my X-ray it was a big filling that required a rct and a second filling on the same tooth so I wanted to go for a crown in case. Would you advise just to go in case to prevent any complications as I grind my teeth too. I’m worrying a lot that down the line it might crack but I’m also worried about complications of getting crown

    • @DoctorUpasana
      @DoctorUpasana  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ashh486 Hey Ash! That's a good question. If you are a bruxer/you grind your teeth better to go in for a crown. It doesn't have any other implications except that your natural and left over tooth will have to be grinded down a bit more to receive a crown. But it's totally worth it if you fear a tooth fracture in future.
      Where are you from?
      Hope this helps you🙂
