The Truth about Dental Veneers in Turkey

  • Lots of people go to Turkey to have dental veneers - because its cheaper than the UK.
My nurse sent me a tiktoc video showing the work someone had done - and its SHOCKING to say the least!
This video shows why veneers abroad are a bad idea after a few years. They may be perfect (ish) to begin with, but the problems start much later.

@@alexking4380 I don’t think anybody has ever had a full mouth of extractions 10 years after getting veneers done in Turkey. How dramatic is your statement lol. A lot of people go to Turkey because they provide better dental care than the UK. We Brits are known for bad teeth for a reason.
It’s clear UK dentists want you to spend more on these treatments so they can benefit. When UK dentists fit veneers or crowns. They also shave down your teeth! So the same risks stand! Just because they shave down a 1MM less than a Turkish dentist, does not mean you walk away risk free!! 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
Also, you can always ask your Dentist to shave as less teeth down as possible! There you go, problem solved!
Or you can get it done in the UK, pay £15-20k for a very standard service and that is probably just enough for the top set of your teeth!
A huge amount of the UK population now turn to Turkey for dental treatment, this goes for celebrities also. Do you really not think that Turkish dentists are a lot more skilled at this job than UK dentists?
UK dentists struggle to get their clients due to their extortionate pricing. Turkey has opened up a more affordable solution for us Brits.

I live in the UK but I’m Turkish and I always go back to my country for my health stuff ( not just teeth ) because doctors are not greedy and there are great doctors in there! The reason for more affordable prices is the currency difference and we mostly produce everything in Turkey. It is not professional to generalize the all doctors in the country and talk crap about them. Other than that, Healthcare system cannot even be compared with the UK since some doctors only advise you to take a rest unless you are dying.

that is not true all the way. Cosmetic surgeries are in fact cheaper in Turkey for the reasons you stated, but the fact that they offer such cosmetic yet harmful solutions for a cheaper price attract a lot naive misinfored young people who go get their teeth shaved off completely. And they don t care in Turkey for this as long as it brings them clientele from all over the world.

I’m sure there are a lot of great dentists and you probably are linked to them because your family knows people. However, as an immigrant myself, countries like Turkey are not going to have as high standards as the UK and the underhanded practices are beyond belief there.

This is complex work that has huge lab bills and time costs. It is also specialist (more training, charges higher price) dental work as there is huge risks of failure and therefore very likely to be sued.
You can't sue a Turkish dentist, they don't give a fuck if you lose all your teeth the year afterwards as you've signed the contract accepting the risks (which wouldn't be allowed in UK).

I have to bitterly disagree with you. If UK dentists did not make some treatments so expensive then dental tourism may not exist. Also the work that is performed here can be shoddy. I have a bridge that has lasted nearly 30 years without issue. I also had some dental work done in Poland over 16 years ago and I have had no issues with that work. My current dentist has done crowns that have given me non stop issues over the 2 years since they have been fitted. I had a root canal done and within 30 minutes of leaving the practice I experienced the worst pain I have ever had. I felt like my face was exploding. Turns out my dentist had drilled too far into the root and whatever acid that was used to dissolve whatever pulp that was left, seeped into my jaw. This left me with a partially numb lip for 7 months. I also have a blatant cavity on a front tooth and I keep being told it's staining. Staining wouldn't hurt if probed with a toothpick. It has now grown and is black. The car park looks like a luxury car dealership. I'm sorry to say that some of your fellow dentist are money dentist. I would rather go to Turkey and take a chance rather than fork out more and more money for shoddy dentistry here in the UK.

First of all, I feel your pain. I have been suffering constantly with abscesses and infections in / under many of my teeth for years, and am only now waiting to have SOME of them extracted here in the UK. The pain is excruciating!
A couple of years back, I had to have a couple of teeth extracted by my dentist, again because of repeated abscesses and irreversible damage. My dentist started the extractions but was unable to complete the work because my teeth were too brittle to come out easily in one piece. I was sent home with partially extracted teeth, open holes in my gum, and large fragments of tooth and nerves left inside the gums, but exposed!!
      THE PAIN!!!😩🤯😭
I had to find, and pay a private dentist A LOT OF MONEY to complete the work and fix the mess my dentist had left behind the week before Christmas.
Three years later, I am still paying back the money I had to borrow from family to have that emergency work done privately! I genuinely need to have all of my remaining teeth extracted, and have implants with some kind of bridges (like all on four or three on six). There is no way in hell I can afford to have this work done in the UK, not even on finance. As far as I can see, my only option is to go to a clinic I have found in Turkey to have the treatment carried out AT A PRICE THAT IS WITHIN REACH. It’s still a lot of money, but about £30,000 cheaper than having the same treatment done here in the UK. I have no choice.
I refuse to resign myself to having nhs dentures for the rest of my life when I’m only in my 30’s.
I wouldn’t mind so much, but it’s because of treatment and medication I was given by the nhs a number of years ago, that my teeth are in the state they are and need to be removed!! But will they help or pay for me to have the work done here in the UK...?
      Will they heck!😔
I’m not arguing with the Dr. in this video. I actually agree with what he’s saying 100% and in an ideal world I would definitely rather go to him to have the work I need carried out.
It’s clear he really knows what he’s talking about, and to find an implant surgeon who cares about aesthetics AND long term success and reliability of the implants is PURE GOLD.😃
But I can’t imagine for one minute that I would ever be able to afford what it would likely cost to have him carry out my treatment. I would happily spend the rest of my life paying £100/month to be able to eat properly again, and to have a smile I could actually be proud of (instead of hiding from the world in embarrassment). But UK dental treatment has to be paid upfront.
So unless I win the lottery it’s EasyJet and Turkey for me!😔
      Best wishes. xx

      Hi Michelle, 🙋🏼‍♀️
Not yet no, everything had to be postponed due to the COVID pandemic.
I’ve had most of my remaining teeth extracted over the past couple of weeks, so I’m going through the healing process from that at the moment. I’m hoping that by the time my gums have all healed up properly I’ll be able to get out to Turkey to start the implant process. It all depends on how things develop over the coming weeks with the pandemic, and also financial limitations. Like many people, my finances have been impacted by COVID so I may have no choice but to wait a little longer to have the implant surgery done. I’m just hoping I don’t have to wait too long otherwise I’ll probably have to have bone and gum grafting done as well.
I will update this post when I do eventually get the implants done so anyone who is interested in the process can get answers they may have from reading about my journey. I might even start my own blog/ vlog page to document my own personal journey and experiences. If I do start my own page I’ll post the link here. xx

I'm from England but now living in Turkey,Istanbul actually where there is a known popularity of health tourism and its huge here. So huge, there are personal assistants that guide you step by step during consultations, seminars on new technology at the actually hospitals. Depends which doctor you sign up to and which hospital or clinic. ALL dentistry here above school age is private,so whenever we need to go to a dentist, even for a check up it costs so much money for us. For a foreigner visiting oy for treatment,I'm guessing they put the price up as they need to use a translator and or a personal assistant and or including a hotel stay which may also be included in the price etc. There are newly made health centres made here specifically for health reasons. Whilst staying there, you have everything done. Spa,massage, sauna, relaxation rooms, even psycho therapy, dental health, assessments, gym, facials of different levels, chiropraction, weight loss help, every type of specialist available and at a huge cost in Turkish lira, but with the exchange rate at now every 1 pound is 14 lira its paying peanuts for a foreigner. Especially using sterling here. I have two cousins here who work as private dentists, one a normal professor and one specialises in the jaw (implants). They've set up their own business connected with a Chinese implant franchise and are a dedicated group who work with the latest technology. In their clinics in first initial check up they will automatically give you a 360degree or 4d whatever the latest xray is. You stand and a huge device circle's around your head and takes every detail of your teeth, jaw etc. Adds it to upto date computer technology. They no way have that on the NHS in the UK or will charge soon much for less upto date technology. Its not fair. Take a look at English publics teeth, the ones that seem white and clean are mainly young 20-30age group who whiten at home. Old people's teeth there are really damaged. Even with fluoride in water there it's doesn't look so good. Here in Turkey in the cities anyway people seem to have really healthy teeth and when I ask some, they've done no whitening at all. I get so shocked. There is no fluoride in our water here. And people don't go to 6 monthly checks likeUK

Flouride is a poison and the only reason people say its good for your teeth is because it kills everything including bacteria so easily. Hi Dr. Gurs, I enjoy watching your videos. I am also a dentist with a cosmetic background performing surgical treatments (implants too). I am based in Budapest where we host lots of international patients. I personally have treated many patients from UK who have had recieved substandard and messed up low quality treatments in UK and here we have to completely redo things to give them what is best for them and what every patient deserves. I have to disagree with you by saying that in the UK many treatment methods are outdated and primitive while the globe is progressing and moving forward; restricted regulations have nothing to do with the quality of treatment, for example, amalgam fillings are still done in the UK despite the fact its toxicity has been proven and its use is banned in many countries. Or hearing from my colleagues in the UK, that they have to use cheaper types of implants as people cannot afford to pay for it while they can receive the high-end quality implants half the price in UK in other countries like in Hungary or Turkey with more or less the same quality of surgical techniques. I admire the effort you put to make these informative and lovely videos but I know everybody isn’t perfect in what they do or say, so I consider this video rather a bad one considering you have made a lot of good ones (I have liked most of your videos btw). We can find good and bad dentists everywhere, and that is true about any profession, there are many up to date techniques and material here in Hungary or countries like Turkey that my dentist friends in the UK have never heard of or cannot afford to use as their patients cannot afford to pay for them, so they stick to the old school material or techniques. Do not think that all dentists in the UK are doing things as you do because they aren’t. I suggest it is really unfair to categorize and compare dental quality in this way based on the country and calling them back street cheap dentists, especially in this case (Turkey vs. UK,). To be honest Turkey would win in many occasions. It might be true about some other countries but still you cannot generalize this nor you can disrespect dentists of one country based on one patient’s experience. Thanks and keep up the good work ❤️

He was saying if you watched and listened carefully that in Turkey they are happy to SHAVE YOUR ENTIRE tooth to a tiny little peg to add the veneer which is actually a crown. What this man said was that had they had the treatment in the UK they would have done the MINIMUM amount of shaving of the original tooth to preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible. Therefore do MINIMAL INVASIVE DAMAGE.
So in the UK they try to minimise the damage to your natural teeth.
Turkey are happy to just get rid of almost your entire tooth.
SO IT'S NOT ABOUT THE UK WANT TO DO AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE.

To be honest the only reason people leave the UK for this treatment is because Turkey costs around £4,000 the UK is like £20,000 which nobody has lol, personally i have considered Turkey but opted for dental bonding and whitening which has cost me almost £2,000, whitening on all teeth but bonding only on 6 teeth, bonding is much safer and better but when you look at the price of £2,000 for bonding and whitening which doesn't guarantee any change in whiteness of your teeth compared to paying £2,000 more for Turkey where you can get something like 16 veneers/crowns to make your teeth perfect and as white as you want you can see why people do it, people just don't have the money to buy it in the UK and most buy it because they need it like they have bad teeth and don't have £12.000 - £25,000 and sadly the price of private dental care in the UK is just too expensive and its sad like my local dentist has cost me almost £250 on just appointments alone without even starting the bonding or whitening so all together i will be spending £2,300 for 6 teeth to be bonded and teeth whitening.

I think the problem with going abroad to have cosmetic work done is if you have any kind of complications when you return home. Veneers, crowns, implants they can and will crack and most likely will need some to be completely replaced at some point . Many dentist will not touch this work that's been done overseas, especially if you're having some kind of major complication. Any reputable dentist will tell you if you're younger and have healthy teeth you should not get crowns taking your natural teeth to nubs, most likely once you get older your teeth will all have to be replaced with dentures.

  • @RedPillAdventurer

Simple solution. Bring UK prices down so people don't have to go there to get their work done.
UK dentist charges £25k, so quite the incentive to prevent people going abroad for their work.
It's worth pointing out that experience, innovation and investment into state of the art facilities will be present where there is a demand.
So do you want a UK dentist that maybe does 5 complete veneers/crowns a year or someone that does hundreds ? So I'd have to give the Turkish dentist the edge when it comes down to experience.
If you run a business with a lot of customers you're going to double down to improve quality, efficiency, technology, reputation etc. So why would a UK dentist pay the ridiculous cost of UK prices to ensure you're getting this when it's not worth their return on investment.
Let's say it's going to cost a UK dentist £500k to improve their services but a Turkish dentist £100k. Who do you think is more likely to do this ? The one doing 5 complete veneers a year or hundreds? So again I'd have to give the edge to the Turkish dentist.
P.S I've seen UK dentists my whole life. When I was young I had root canal treatment done without an anaesthetic. The dentist said he needed to play off my reactions, so couldn't numb anything.
After he exposed the nerve he did something and filled in it. I had to go back so he could expose the nerve again without an anaesthetic. Only for him to say oh the nerves not dead, so he filled it back in.
On my third visit he exposed my nerve and yes you guessed it no anaesthetic and yet again the nerve was still not dead.
I didn't go back! 10+ years later I developed an abscess because of it and finally gave in to give it one more try. Long story short now I don't have a tooth anymore and because of how it was extracted I still have an annoying but of tooth left over in the gum pocket they left behind.
    Thanks! UK dentists

Why didn’t she just get braces to correct her teeth? Also those aren’t veneers as she calls them, they are crowns and those crowns won’t last her whole life, and when they replace them she will lose even more of her teeth each time. Braces may be awkward to have and take a while to work, but are a way better treatment since the natural teeth stay intact. No artificial tooth will last as long as a natural one and it’s straight stupidity to destroy perfectly healthy teeth at such a young age.

I will say the Dental Center of Turkey has all the latest equipment. They let you pick what you want and if they don't think it's good or the right thing they will steer you to a different decision. I have had the worst dental care here in the USA. Typically the crown costs $1300.00 per tooth. Same equipment as in Turkey. No difference in the resins. They messed this crown up and wanted to put another one on there, then told me I might need a root canal if the nerve didn't calm down, another 1200.00. Total for 1 tooth=$2300.00. I am sure it may not be the correct thing for a 20 year old to go do, but I am 45 and have cracks in my teeth from an accident and staining from tetracycline from the 70's that will not bleach out. I am heavily considering Turkey because at 1300.00 a tooth and I have a super wide smile; that would be $31, 000.00 for the same machine, resin, and dentistry.

The fact that you had bad work in the UK does not mean all the dentists here are bad, the fact that you had good work done in Turkey does not mean all the dentists there are good. You should do your research about cosmetic treatments (especially veneers since as the video says these don't even count as veneers anymore but are actually crowns). Regardless of where you live if you think your dentist is giving you bad advice then you should get a second opinion. I had a dentist in the US diagnose me with a pulpitis when I had actually cracked a tooth, a dentist in the UK had to remove it when it eventually broke and honestly even though it was a treatment I wish I hadn't needed I am very happy with the treatment I received in the UK (and not at all happy with my treatment in the US...).

Calling Turkish (overseas) dentistry as ‘cheaper option’ doesn’t mean everyone living in Turkey/overseas has veneers. To get 41,000 lira in Turkey (if actually living there and working) is not a joke which is the same way here getting £4K for most people you’ll have to work in factory for all most 5 months straight without eating a single penny (depending on locations).
My point is having a higher money currency it doesn’t mean other countries’ health care is poor (I get that we have to use our own or ‘support’ our own kind of saying) but come on mate in London I’ve been asked for £500 for one tooth whereas in Turkey that’s about 7 teeth done (£4K for 24 teeth).
It’s hard to take when you’re losing on market but doctors on doctors is a battle that I never saw it coming 😂

This guy says “to save a couple of quid” 👀 if it was truly just a couple of quid then people wouldn’t be forced to go overseas for there treatment. Unless dentistry in the UK lowers its extortionate prices then people will always go abroad. The UK dental industry is definitely going to feel the pinch especially since going abroad for treatment has now been made so easy ie flights, hotels and treatments are often all included in a package. It’s not unheard of for the dentists to even provide taxis to collect patients from there hotels to the surgery and then return them after the treatment. Cost of living and value of money in UK vs. Turkey is wildly different so those in Turkey have no grounds to charge the same amount as western country, they would drive away local and foreign business if they did that, so cheaper doesn’t always mean worse in quality. The quality of that of those veneers in Turkey is not always bad and maybe this dentist is being prejudice in saying that all or a lot of dental professionals in Turkey are cowboys, because they likely didn’t school at a western institute and will be miles away after the foreigner goes home. That is just not true. I had veneers done in the UK by some muppet in Harley St - £6,500 for EIGHT and they are absolutely crap I have been back several times having nothing but probs and they are only 5 years old. I fly to Turkey in Feb to get 20 for £2,500, highly rated and legit dental clinic. 🤷‍♂️

I don't agree with you doctor. I live in the UK and I recently got my teeth done in Turkey. I needed 5 root canals + crowns to cover them, 2 implants to close the missing ones + 2 new teeth. Here the dentist quoted me £1000 per root canal and £700 per crown and £3000 per implant + £700 per tooth to go on an implant.
I tried NHS which I have been waiting since 2019 just to get myself registered. Not possible. Still waiting in 2023.
So I went to Turkey and got them all done in 1 week for less than half of the cost of average UK dentist. The clinic I went to was very professional, clean and they had the latest technology. Staff was amazing and doctors wasted no time, everything planned like a military operation. On the other hand my local UK dentist's office feels like 90's with old equipment. I mean in Turkey they x-rayed me with 360 scanner. In the UK they put x-ray clip in my mouth and another device on 1 side of my face... Something that I had seen when I was 10.
Sorry doctor, UK dentists are unrealistically overpriced their services and not all are as good as you described.

The UK needs to do something about the price of dentistry in general and I am not even referring to purely cosmetic dentistry. People actually NEED treatment that they cannot afford. Take me for example, I have learned yesterday i need my tooth extracted and something to replace it. I've looked at prices in the UK for an implant as this is the most durable option for my pre mollar. I cannot afford it 😫 however I need it to chew my food. I'm now looking to go abroad. there are bad unethical dentists anywhere in the world including the UK, my understanding is that any dentist can undertake lucrative cosmetic work but it takes a highly experienced specialist to do it properly, the cost of cosmetic dentistry in the UK is very expensive, and that is why people go abroad to places like Turkey and Budapest and find some great dentists there, the Tik Tok video shows a poor example of dental work done in Turkey with over invasive prep work, but to be honest you could probably find equally bad work in the UK by unscrupulous dentists who want to cash in on the cosmetic boom, I think people have to make the right choice of dentist wherever they go in the world, I went to Budapest 10 years ago and had some top quality cosmetic work done that transformed my mouth, it was significantly cheaper than having it done in the UK by an average priced dentist here, everything is still good with the work I had done, I do know people who have had good experiences in Turkey with dental work, so Im not sure if one TIk Tok video is indicative of what goes on in Turkey, people have to do their due diligence and educate themselves on what is the best kind of method and what is involved.........minimally invasive is the way to go, that I would agree with and people need to do their homework.

stop charging people an arm an a leg in the UK so we can have proper dental work, although the dentist i used 14 years ago insisted one of my teeth was going bad and needed a crown and while he started the work of grinding the tooth down i could not afford the crown and a few times of visiting he kept on about the tooth and showed me in the mirror it was black on top. once home i checked the tooth with a mirror and it was not black after cleaning with a toothbrush and turned out to be something left on the tooth and 15 years later apart from that tooth being ground down i have no problem with it so as far as i was concerned he was just doing work to make money. i am now in desperate need of dental work be it replacements or crowns? but frightened to go to a dentist as i feel none can be trusted. my teeth cant get much worse as they are ground down to the gums nearly. i did many years ago go to a another dentist recommended by my dentist that specialised in veneers and was given a price for just the top of £14000 =+ vat with a 12 month guarantee and that was 15 to 18 years ago so you can see why brits take a chance on turkey teeth

So many people in these comments are lost, ur mad cuz hes charging alot and say u can’t afford that then JUST DONT GET IT, just cuz u want perfect looking teeth, ur teeth dont just heal themselves once u damage them thats it, and it’s literally gonna cost even more to fix them after the cheap veneers wear off later on.

Those are not veneers as veneers don’t require your teeth to be ground down. Those are crowns. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

My UK dentists have butchered my teeth, i have never had a good experience and cant bare the dentist. Going to turkey also doesn’t just save you a few quid, its saves you THOUSANDS and so much pain and trauma. UK nhs dentists couldnt care less about you and only care slightly if you pay privately

@@tandartsreizennaaralbanie7483 It kind of is. Getting up and going to another country to get dental work done is pretty damned annoying.
But it's worth it for the quality of work you get.
