    The fastest sailing transatlantic world record is only 16 hours behind the powerboat record. That's amazing when no refueling and using just the wind.

    You should change the title of this video, the record was set by an Italian yacht called DESTRIERO, unbeaten record from 1992 until today. No refueling, non stop. 52K hp, 67 meters monster. 58kn AVERAGE speed during the record crossing. Made by Fincantieri, Italy.

      It was denied for almost the same reason this one was. While this boat didn't make it because it stopped to refuel and it wasn't a commercial boat. The one you mentioned didn't have to be refueled, it also wasn't a commercial boat, so it didn't get the ribbon either.

    And the fact they took 7 hours to fix the problems with water being in the fuel and still beat the record

    I wonder what the record is without refueling? Would that still be held by one of the big liners?

    This is not even an ocean liner, so a large 50,000 ton ship getting beaten by a overpowered yacht, kind of pathetic, like bragging to beat a semi trailer truck in a race with a Ferrari. Therfore, SS united States is the last fastest passenger ship had crossed the Atlantic.

    2 hours 9 minutes of what record? What a waste of time. The ONE question...unanswered.

    • @ianrkav
      @ianrkav 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The record set by the American passenger liner and current Blue Riband holder 'United States.' Going from west to east it took 3days, 10hrs and 40mins at an average speed of 35.59 knots set in 1952. Branson, going from west to east, took 3 days, 8 hours and 31 minutes at an average speed of 36.65 knots. However. the Blue Riband and subsequent 'Hales Trophy' is for in service passenger liners, carrying passengers and is not judged on fastest outright crossing but on fastest average speed, as different ships would take different routes, some longer, some shorter, depending on prevailing conditions. Because of this Branson was denied the Hales Trophy as his vessel was classed as a private yacht and not a commercial vessel. As a result Branson instigated a new trophy the 'Virgin Atlantic Challenge Trophy.' This is a trophy for the outright fastest Atlantic crossing by a surface vessel.
      Hope that helps:-)
