I love her speaking voice and being a Southerner myself I love her Southern accent. Also a beautiful, intelligent, elegant and delightful lady. I'm glad to hear she's still alive. Almost 97 years old.
I have loved Ms. Price forever. And she is so right about the work. Being a pianist, there is no greater reward than when you do burn that midnight oil. Work, work, work and it really pays off! Love her. And her parenting was her backbone. She has blessed us.
The underlying point to be reiterated is: the importance of mother and father's role in shaping children and their futures; discipline, preparation to be the best you can be. When children see in their mother's and father's that internal discipline to do their best, to be the best they can be...that makes children a reward to their communities. Not sports figures, not celebrities, but good parents should be the inspiration and role models for their children and their families to follow! Leontyne Price is a fabulous performer ..her voice is phenomenal!
What a great precious gift, Miss Leontyne Price is to the world. I wish the young people of today would open their eyes and receive the blessing of being created in the image of God; and realize that they have a gift in them that no one else can do and they would seek out their destiny to live the plan and purpose that God created for them. Miss Leontyne Price is an extraordinary woman of inspiration. ❤🎉❤
In H.S days And in preparing for College my vocal coach was the original accompanist for William Warfield, who was Prima Donna Price’s first husband. Watching this interview allows me perview into a degree of her elegance so astounding that it almost lends itself to be mildly sensual. Im 31 I never thought of her in such a way lol but I pray I can meet a lady like this so full , smart, spiritual , self directed, and one who owns her genius and femininity with such ease and confidence.
jaguar1990ful: Good luck! If you can find someone like Leontyne Price to spend your life then prove yourself worthy of her. However if you can find “Leontyne Price II” then there’s also hope for the musical world.
What a wonderful lady with such an excellent voice. BRAVO, Leontyne Price! Now in February 2022: Congratulations on your 95th birthday! 🌹🌼🌷 All the best for you! 🌺
Thank you for this video-treasure of the beautiful Ms. Price giving so many insights into who she is as an extraordinary person, not to mention the most extraordinary vocal talent ever.
"To be inspired by your own belief in yourself." Thank you Ms. Price. I will take that to the bank, for sure. That spoke to me tonight and those words met me where I am. Thank you!
a little known or well known secret (depending on who you ask) is that she is cousin to Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick. To say that the gift of singing (professionally) runs thru this family (on Leontyne's mother's side) is an understatement.
Remember her a nice down to earth person, while singing in the chorus of la traviatta around 1980 I believe. What a wonderful voice. Her vocal range ,something else
It’s a charming sentiment that she has for her originations, but really there are many, many successful opera singers that had horrendous families. Not to mention composers and all people in the theatre.
But they weren’t born of black African slaves in one of the most shamefully segregated states at the time when Price and her brother were children, now were they?? The obstacle of being black in America at the time when Price was born is unbelievable to most people now, but simply being black would have closed many doors which for white people would have been wide open, so please don’t try to compare the two races in any endeavor, but certainly not in the rarefied strata of classical music, and of opera especially.
@@voraciousreader3341 She was not the daughter of slaves, and her hometown of Laurel, Mississippi, was, though segregated, or relatively benevolent southern milltown. It’s leading (white) family, paid special attention to Leontyne, encouraged their talent, and helped pay her way through Juilliard. Her parents and her church and school were crucial.
They didn't need replacing, but she could have benefitted from braces since she DID have gaps in the teeth. However, to my knowledge, she never got them. The video is grainy, but she didn't have perfect teeth by any means. In her era, many artists didn't have perfect teeth. I think she did later get her teeth capped.
@@liedersanger1 Early images of Ms. Price showed she had diastema which I assume she had fixed. Kaufmann definitely has had some dental work too. And it's all fine. We all want to look good especially those in front of the camera. I concur the dental shadows are the video/lighting quality.

Gosh, even her speaking voices, absolutely beautiful and elegant!

It’s always wonderful to hear Leontyne sing, but to hear her speak is just as fabulous!
I wish families were still like Ms. Price's. Intact, put their children first, instill values, etc.
Happy 95th Life Anniversary

Very well put! (BTW, Warfield was her first and *only* husband.)

Thank you so much for posting this!
Luv her! I think this is the best interview of Price I have seen.
Thank you for this upload!

She never sang Traviata.
What family can do,

I absolutely adore the talent of Leontyne Price and her beauty but in this interview it brought me to tears seeing her teeth needing replacing.
The problem is with the grainy video, not her teeth.

Ridiculous.
