These are two memorable Tosca experiences of mine. The first is the opening night celebration of the return of the NYCO production at the Rose Theater in 2016. Followed by an audio performance of Act 1 of my first Sacristan in Detroit with Maria Guleghina as Tosca, 1994. i will be singing the Sacristan in my 20th production of TOSCA in October 2022 with Opera Carolina.

Not her best. For example, Schwarzkopf, Janovitz. Nein
Estoy escuchando Lux Aeterna del réquiem de Verdi mientras leo el libro El símbolo perdido de Dan Brown
No apology necessary here. The vocal meta of a singer, especially in the soprano voice is measured in the facility they have to fulfill all of the necessary and traditional Mozartian requirements; maintaining an even, smoothe singing line from top notes to the bottom chest voice, breath control, obedience to the interpretation of the text and a very precise adherence to musicianship, Here, Leontyne prooves that she has all that. Brava. I really enjoy listening to this recording, even with your ap0logies.
Not her best night, and still a stunning performance.
2:30 Piu mosso
I sang in the chorus of this production, and my son Aaron had the juvenile solo in Act II. Such a happy time! So beautiful!
This is clearly not suited to her voice.
Great job 👏🏽
What a great precious gift, Miss Leontyne Price is to the world. I wish the young people of today would open their eyes and receive the blessing of being created in the image of God; and realize that they have a gift in them that no one else can do and they would seek out their destiny to live the plan and purpose that God created for them. Miss Leontyne Price is an extraordinary woman of inspiration. ❤🎉❤
Gosh, even her speaking voices, absolutely beautiful and elegant!
Thank you for uploading.
Excelente ❤❤❤❤ una interpretación magnífica. De inicio a fin
What a lovely timbre top to bottom! Bravo!
I am listening to Lux Aeterna from the requiem from Verdi while reading the book The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown page 20.
❤ Thank you so much for posting! Iconic concert of Mozart, Verdi and Strauss.
Excellent diction and excellent intonation!! Nice deep voice!!
I wish families were still like Ms. Price's. Intact, put their children first, instill values, etc.
Extraordinary artist! I only saw her once onstage, as Ariadne. Of course Price sings everything beautifully and with apparent ease. If I had been there, I would’ve cheered. But the whole point of this aria is the extreme range - low-high, high-low. And while Price’s high notes are glorious, the low notes are pretty weak.
And legato is moody, and the pronunciation. Thrilling nonetheless.
It’s interesting because her weakest is still better than most singers “best”
I love her speaking voice and being a Southerner myself I love her Southern accent. Also a beautiful, intelligent, elegant and delightful lady. I'm glad to hear she's still alive. Almost 97 years old.
Extraordinario.Bravo
Signed sealed and delivered!
Wowsers! Thanks for uploading.
Thank you so much for sharing this! She is ABSOLUTELY DIVINA ❤💯👏🏻
She’s still with us by the grace of God. Unequalled…incomparable.
I don't understand a word of what she sings as usual
how fluent are you in Italian?
@@harmoniabalanza i am italian
@@harmoniabalanza but it does not matter if I am italian or not.miss Price sings like this in french as well.the most beautiful sound ever but the pronunciation is poor in any language.even in english. At last to my ears. Anyway she's a celebrity and I'm not.
I understand every word. I am Italian. You are a stronzo.
Hit like if you came here because you’re reading Dan Brown’s “The Lost Symbol” . 😊
You are the best bass Baritone singer.
Oh, my God! Donald! It is YOU! I wish Mom could have witnessed this, it would have been like seeing her son sing!
One of operas most iconic singers. One of those great voices you hear in a lifetime. I was fortunate to hear her perform twice. Wonderful treat.
@@ropi8739Price is widely considered to be the best Verdian diva to have ever lived
Who is this??
@@wallshootout5616 Three words of yours cannot be argued with: “… to my taste.” Thank you for using them!
@@wallshootout5616 Ihre subjektive Meinung ist sachlich? Ist wer Mozart singen darf in einem Gesetz festgelegt?
Such a rich voice... so much talent! I love him....I am proud to call him my friend .
I have loved Ms. Price forever. And she is so right about the work. Being a pianist, there is no greater reward than when you do burn that midnight oil. Work, work, work and it really pays off! Love her. And her parenting was her backbone. She has blessed us.
The underlying point to be reiterated is: the importance of mother and father's role in shaping children and their futures; discipline, preparation to be the best you can be. When children see in their mother's and father's that internal discipline to do their best, to be the best they can be...that makes children a reward to their communities. Not sports figures, not celebrities, but good parents should be the inspiration and role models for their children and their families to follow! Leontyne Price is a fabulous performer ..her voice is phenomenal!

Thank you!
"To be inspired by your own belief in yourself." Thank you Ms. Price. I will take that to the bank, for sure. That spoke to me tonight and those words met me where I am. Thank you!
Remember her a nice down to earth person, while singing in the chorus of la traviatta around 1980 I believe. What a wonderful voice. Her vocal range ,something else
She never sang Traviata.
Kayıp Sembol okuduğum için müziği dinlemeye geldim ( ͡°ᴥ ͡° ʋ)

It’s a charming sentiment that she has for her originations, but really there are many, many successful opera singers that had horrendous families. Not to mention composers and all people in the theatre.
But they weren’t born of black African slaves in one of the most shamefully segregated states at the time when Price and her brother were children, now were they?? The obstacle of being black in America at the time when Price was born is unbelievable to most people now, but simply being black would have closed many doors which for white people would have been wide open, so please don’t try to compare the two races in any endeavor, but certainly not in the rarefied strata of classical music, and of opera especially.
@@voraciousreader3341 She was not the daughter of slaves, and her hometown of Laurel, Mississippi, was, though segregated, or relatively benevolent southern milltown. It’s leading (white) family, paid special attention to Leontyne, encouraged their talent, and helped pay her way through Juilliard. Her parents and her church and school were crucial.
The closest mankind will come to a time machine.....
Nice little Cadenza at '...e nell tempesta!' She tries a bit too hard with the lowest notes though. Making them bigger and darker than necessary. The Aria's a monster to sing, for sure. Never thought of her as a Mozart singer.
Actually she was far more suited to Mozart and Händel, and to a lesser extent Puccini, than she was to Verdi. Somehow she acquired a reputation as the consummate Verdi soprano, but that's the last thing she was. Her soft-grained voice was lacking in the morbidezza and bite that roles like Amelia in Un ballo in maschera and the two Leonoras require, and its lyrical weight was totally inadequate for Aïda, her most famous role. Had she stuck to Mozart, Strauss and Händel, her voice would most certainly have enjoyed a longer and healthier life, rather than deteriorating to the point that her stage career was effectively over after only twenty-odd years.
@@jasonhurd4379 Price began singing opera during the fifties. So her voice didnot deteriorate after twenty odd years of singing!! You also have to take into account ALL of the singing she was doing which included recitals, concert appearances, recordings and opera!! I think she more than proved her vocal prowess whether YOU think her voice was suited for this or that!! It doesn’t matter because she is one of the most successful singers in history. Brava Leontyne!!! Stop judging!!
@@jasonhurd4379 What a bunch of absurdities! “… the last thing she was””…totally inadequate for Aida,” etc. Balderdash! Price had her weaknesses, like every singer, but she was still the finest and most enduring Verdi soprano of her era - in Trovatore, Aida, Ballo, Forza, and Verdi’s Requiem. Arroyo and Caballe intruded on her realm beautifully, but briefly. By the early 1980s, she was the only one left singing Verdi at the highest level, with morbidezza, expressive intensity, and a secure high C. (Mitchell was a minor contender, but came a bit later. Then Millo.)
I love it when a nobody like you tries to give advice to world class singers like Price....likely you couldn't make it through one of the 24 Italian art songs.
Listen to her "Or sai chi l'onore" recorded in 1966. It will knock your socks off!
Here is a fact about the Lux Aeterna movement: It is the Communion Antiphon of the Roman Catholic Requiem Mass. Here is what its lyrics mean: Latin: "Lux Aeterna Luceat Eis, Domine, Cum Sanctis Tuis In Aeternum, Quia Pius Es. Requiem Aeternam Dona Eis, Domine, Et Lux Perpetua Luceat Eis Domine, Cum Sanctis Tuis In Aeternum, Quia Pius Es." Here is what they roughly translates to in English: "May Everlasting Light Shine Upon Them, O Lord, With Thy Saints For Evermore, For Thou Art Gracious. Eternal Rest Grant Unto Them, O Lord, And Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Them, With Thy Saints For Evermore, For Thou Art Gracious."
What family can do,
Une des plus sublimes scènes du "Ring " ...!!!! Il y en a bien d'autres !!! Génial Wagner !!!!
Forza's best aria. But Callas said it is more difficult than Pace mio Dio.
a little known or well known secret (depending on who you ask) is that she is cousin to Whitney Houston, Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick. To say that the gift of singing (professionally) runs thru this family (on Leontyne's mother's side) is an understatement.
What a wonderful lady with such an excellent voice. BRAVO, Leontyne Price! Now in February 2022: Congratulations on your 95th birthday! 🌹🌼🌷 All the best for you! 🌺
