@@Theon435Not entirely wrong. Sure it's defined as what most people see in their specific geographical location but let's not forget the weight of impact the US has on the rest of the world, especially the UK. As I know it, in the UK we south Asians don't actually "own" the term 'Asian' as you might think. 'Asian' for us in UK includes South Asia but predominantly (as it is globally more known) Asian is East and South-East Asians too. UK has a lot of influence from many places, including North America and Europe (especially its closest neighbours Ireland and France. France sitting strongly on East asians = only Asians, inside knowledge from myself, a francophone who has spoken to plenty of french people). but I'd say the idea of 'Asian' is generally a lot larger here than just East(+SE) Asia in comparison to other places (e.g. France).
Even in the grocery stores, Asian aisles are dedicated to East Asian and SE Asian cuisines and a separate Indian section for South Asia. Also the social aspect - it's not any less than this.
growing up in UK people deny South Asians as being Asian still, though over time it's even becoming more accepted.

8:22 Sushi actually first popped up in China before anyone ever thought about serving raw, smoked, or steamed fish on rice in bite-sized portions like conventional sushi you see in Japan now. Even though its a global Japanese staple food, you can still say that its roots lie in China... like many other Asian dishes like Ramen, Tea and the culture around Tea, Soy Sauce, Gyoza (Dumplings), etc. In fact, a majority of modern Asian staple foods can be traced back to China and India and even Europe with how they introduced cooking techniques and other foods.

Caleb is correct. Those of us that do speak the language, and are frequent enough with it in a daily basis can tell between the difference of someone that's been taught from young versus a person that learnt the language much later in life. Kevin's mandarin, while very good, can still be discernible to fluent speakers, especially mainlanders because of the small tells you pick up from mannerisms, slang, and even the way a person describes things. Similar to how some people can tell what part of Los Angeles you're from depending on the way you speak.

He was doing his best to mask himself with the others during the competition but even he didn't immediately think of the word "proud" in his mind like the others have because of the significant meaning behind it. @@sebfox2194 well idk what you mean by most "western" countries but formality on how you address people you don't know and depending on their age had hierarchy as well. i was born and raised in a german speaking country and virtually across all of them you address people you don't know as "Sie" formally and even elder people you know well too (instead of the informal "du"). this has worn off a bit nowadays compared to before but even the whole eastern block of europe has this formal addressing and tonality of how you do it towards strangers and specifcally elders. i think the english speaking nations such as USA, UK and Aus give off this vibe that it is the same within most western nations but that's not the case at all. go look up different formalities within german and slavic speaking countries (perhaps greece, italy and spain as well but i have no idea about them) and you'll learn very quickly that the view you have isn't correct. as i've said, german speaking countries are quite formal, polish and other slavic speaking countries in certain cases even more so, as you use formals that are gender and age specific and some people will take offense if you don't do that. in germany as example you also keep work and private life seperate, which is also a formal thing... i could go on for days, but as i've said, it has worn off a bit and it keeps doing so, and I believe that's modernism and is happening everywhere around the world, slowly but surely. cheers

He has the grammar since he knows "Chinese" but it's just a weird, "cantonised" Mandarin. 7:15 I agree! My top 2-3 favourite restaurants are all chinese restaurants. Chinese food is amazing. But there are some next level shitty restaurants too. (that is true of all cuisines I guess...) But here is the solution I found: I bought the best round-bottom wok I could find, and a rounded induction plate (from a restaurant supplier I found online, it's high wquality stuff, not a cheap amazon thing), and I learnt how to make asian food at home. Took a few weeks to get the hang of it, but now even my favourite chinese restaurants pale in comparaison to my own. I just have a more limited recipe selection at home, cause I can't have all the ingredients, my pantry isn't big enough and they would go bad before I have time to cook them.

If you speak a language well enough, that you can get through the day, interacting with various people in only that language, then you speak that language.
