    The issue with breakdowns is not simply a question of if you have a rainy day fund but the inconvenience of it all especially if you get a fault that requires multiple dealer visits.

    Bought my D180 from new in October 2019. I've done over 50,000 trouble free miles. My average is about 45mpg and have achieved 50mpg on a motorway run to Devon. I normally swap cars after three or so years but like this car so much that I'll just keep it.

    I dare say I’ll get some hate for this but I think it’s the best looking LR ever made. There I said it! And one of the best looking mass market cars on sale today. For me it manages to look comfortingly retro whilst looking fantastically futuristic. What other car has ever managed to pull that off? If only I could afford one!

    I bought one of these new back in 2019, and kept it for just 9 months before I traded it in. We just couldn't live with it any longer than that. We've had several different Range Rovers in our time, and we still love them. However, the Evoque was a massive disappointment. We didn't even get to drive it home ourselves on collection day - arrived at the dealership to be told that the car needed a software update and wasn't ready! They gave us some nice accessories by way of an apology, but seriously? What kind of brand new car needs a software update and why on earth hadn't they done it before? The infotainment system is glitchy, we quickly got used to the Bluetooth just refusing to work, same with the parking sensors and cameras... One of the fancy door handles refused to retract one day and had to be replaced. The build quality was equally poor, panels misaligned all around the car. You can see the same thing in this video - check out the alignment of that boot lid to the light cluster beside it.
    For the money they charge for these you can expect a lot better. If you're looking at buying on of these, save yourself the disappointment and get yourself a Macan instead. Off road ability aside, it's a better car in every way... And let's be honest, virtually nobody who would even consider an Evoque is going anywhere near an unpaved surface anytime soon.

    I bought the 240D recently and I fkn love it! It goes so hard. I live in the Australian outback so I spend most of my time on dirt and gravel roads, which are usually muddy, and it's amazing. Great review as always. Tried one in January, but to be honest the drive/handling is no better than any of the Korean or Japanese offerings in that segment, and their warranties are way better. Great review Matt. I've had three Evoque's and a Velar, the latest Evoque was by far the most fun to drive. By the way the D180 is a mild hybirid -all but the most basic 148bhp diesel get a 48-volt mild hybrid system. That's probably why the stop / starts are smoother.

  • @jubrum2476
    @jubrum2476 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have used all of the cars in this segment and the evoque is the best all round. None of the others really match the evoque when you really do want the assurance in bad weather or poor road surfaces. If anyone wants to talk about reliability then there is not much between them but the evoque does give that qualityn feel with the materials used in the cabin. So a big thumbs up for the Evoque.

    I test drove a new Evoque hybrid back in January - an absolutely cracking car, potent, smooth, incredible integration of electric motor and engine (which was very charismatic). The ride was good, although the big wheels did tramline. I ordered a Defender 90 in the end, but its a great car. Waiting lists are horrid though! Oh, and it's a lot more comfortable than my hard as a rock RRS...

  • @DirtySaltyBug
    @DirtySaltyBug 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good review, but a little optimistic. This car has some significant irritations. I had mine from new and the O2 sensor went bad leading to rough idling after only 8,200 km. Replaced under warranty but it's a bit poor from a new car. Auto start stop cuts off seamlessly, but it starts quite rough. Rough enough to make you not want to deal with it and turn it off every time.. Can't really drive with the driver's window down because there is some strange wind resonance in the interior going on.. Braking and going back to accelerator like at roundabouts confuses the car and there is a noticeable delay in power delivery. I've had 4 occasions where the infotainment system crashed and I couldn't use any of the onboard functions. It recovers by itself after a couple of restarts. The dealership said it was a software issue. Reasonably comfortable ride though.

    This is a review which reminds me of Mark Anthony at Caesar’s Funeral ‘I came to Bury to bury Caesar, not to praise him’. Personally, I don’t like Epoques, aside from that. I always thought them a novel ‘hand bag’ car -especially the convertible. So, pray tell, what did you mean by ‘not when you have long fingernails’ - almost as good as ‘Chavtastic’. And the comments about interior surfaces, a classic couple of lines which couldn’t be sarcastic, no? Anyway I wish you had your own TV slot - you would outclass Clarkson by a high peaks mile! I don't mind the higher tax (involuntary payments to Government are taxes, irrespective the label given) as such, but this is one that is an invitation for fiscal drag; where inflation means the underlying price of the car rises but the tax threshold does not, yielding higher revenues for the Government; I'm not a fan and think it is pernicious. I can't see the UK Government giving up revenue anytime soon either.
    The 40K threshold was introduced in for cars first registered after April 1st, 2017. As of April 1st, 2022 it hasn't changed. Remind me of your opinion when your new Dacia incurs this tax.

Was a nice looking car and drove really well, economy was also very good and never dipped below 40 mpg was good when it worked though, although it was the D180 it always felt a bit slow.

    Tried to go for a test drive in one, but at 6'4", and the Evoque having a sun-roof, I was sat with the chair on it's lowest setting, and my head pushed against the ceiling, and that's discounting the sloping roof and rear seats.

    Another interesting review. I've never driven an Evoque and to be honest I have no desire to. Often referred to as a, "hairdresser's car". Way overpriced in my opinion and expensive here in Australia if you have any engine problems requiring a Land Rover dealership (scary thought). Hadn't thought about, "wing mirrors" until you mentioned them. They were fitted on the wings now you mention it. I'm sure I just call them mirrors now.

    Nice colour with the shiny black trim.
    Some simple chrome buttons on the front edge of the display, that line up with the corresponding function displayed on the bottom of the screen would help anyone. Need the 4th button along, easy to feel and count them as you drive. Room for 10 or so buttons. Easy fix.

    The most informative parts of the test for me though were:
    1. The car has wing mirrors
    2. You managed to have man flu since 2020.
    There is hope after all 😃👍

    Just bought the 150bhp manual Dynamic R in the same colour as yours. Have to say very impressed. 35mpg round town. 44 on a run. very planted on the road. Also, I took a 4 wheel drive hybrid round an off road track in Skipton (free when you buy a range) and I can say it is as capable as a defender on most surfaces. Only thing is the wade depth is deeper on a defender. I will be getting the 4 wheel drive next time, but for the time being, the 2 wheel will suffice for the wife, who absolutely loves it.

    I love my mk1 evoque it’s always a pleasure to drive, I don’t mind the noise of the diesel , Fuel wise it’s doing 29.5 mpg around town (180 bhp engine) I would love to use premium fuel but so expensive at the moment I was changing it from standard diesel to premium every other week till the price increase . The problem I had with my second hand 2018 was balance shaft issue a known problem with the jag engine and a right side drive shaft bearing another known issue , but like you said other manufacturers have issues

    In fairness, there are 4 trim levels in the Evoque range which is probably why the one you're driving, the S, doesn't have certain items of kit. BMW Audi and Mercedes do the same. If you want all that kit then you'll need to spend more on all of them. I know what you mean about the looks though. The Evoque has them all licked in my eyes.

    Always liked the look of the RR Evoque and the Mk2 brings some nice improvements whilst retaining a lot of the orginal style. The interior looks to be a considerable improvement just a pity about some of those cheap plastics that JLR seem so fond of using! The thing that would bother me is that Ingenium diesel engine - quite a lot of reports of serious engine failiures - stretched timing chains seem to be quite common although think JLR did some updates in 2019. Have to say it would put me off buying the diesel version.

    Got a P250 back in March 2020.....never realised that the 3 year JLR Warranty was there for a new owner to 'finish' each car with the local dealer. If you doubt me go back to the video at 5.12 and look at that horizontal crease (and plastic trim) across the rear wing and boot...nicely matched JLR!!!! I do like your reviews, but now I know you are more of a car dealer than a car owner...you are just not seeing the problems that £40,000.00 of hard worked for money is seeing....sorry.
