      I haven't. They recently sent me a 128ND which I am testing next week, for a video with gimbals I am making. That should help a little. The issue is that the thread for the filters is on the outside, not the inside, so most if not all step up and down rings expect the threading to be on the inside. It is not a simple heck to come up with.... Would a 128ND be good to you?

  • @DaveKnowlesFilmmaker
    @DaveKnowlesFilmmaker 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Why oh why do manufacturers ignore a thread on the front of a filter (be it a variable or fixed) so you can stack the filters or add a lens hood which is in a lot of cases a must? Even the Peter McKinnon does not have a thread and I therefore sold mine. On my Canon cameras I now use Cokin variable ND filter for this very reason. With these yopu can screw3 in a lens hood and it works well.

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I din’t understand either why they din’t add threads. It limits the functionality of the actual filter itself..

    Hi! I got the 1.33x and 1.55x but i get i really high vignette when I move the smartphone. For example, when I start to make angle movements from left to right, they vignette of the right side increases and when i make angle movements from right to left, the left vignette increases a lot. Good review as always.
    I am shooting real estate rental. Current setup is a MT2, iPhone 15 pro. Due to tight places the videos and photos are mainly iPhone wide angle in low light therefore considering a wide angle lens to allow to use the main camera.
    Important to me is being able to keep the case on when not shooting therefore I like the Freewell, Sandmarc & moment cases, however in the uk we struggle to get sandmarc and moment unless ordering from USA. We can get Freewell.
    What wide angle lens would you recommend as I really value your opinion & experience.

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I use both sandmarc and freewell. They are both good. I am also based in the UK but I have never had any issues getting equipment from sandmarc. Ofgten within 2/3 days after purchase. they are very good. Freewell are larger and heavier lenses in size, but they have more options. However with sandmarc you get everything you need. I am soon reviewing the new sandmarc 6x telephone lens and I am planning to do soon a shootout between sandmarc and freewell lenses and filters. This is probably wihtin the next 4- 5 weeks. I just have too many videos to get through! Eityher choice you go for, you will be happy with. If you are London based I am happy to come and borrow mine for a day and do your tests, if that helps. Happy to help in making a decision. Either one you go with,m you will be happy.
      For gimbals, the smaller the lens the better, due to balancing. that should be obvious. But the freewell magnetic case and VND system for the default lenses on the iphone is a really brilliant idea. There is not one that is better in every aspect to the other. I wish there was! If I was in your shoes I would also be undecided....

      @lookingtorent331 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SamuelSotiega brilliant, thank you for the offer but in Scotland. Think I will go with the sandmarc if good to order from online.
      If both wide lenses are just as good as each other I will have a closer look at the case as this is going to stay on my mobile all the time.
      Obviously the wide lens isn’t as wide as the ultra wide on the iPhone but do you lose much width ?

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hello, I would like to know about the possibility of simultaneously using ND, CPL, SMIST1/4, and other filters in the FREEWELL SHERPA system for iPhone 15.
    I have watched many videos of people reviewing this system and carefully studied the manufacturer's website, but nowhere is there extremely important information. Everyone says that you can use, for example, a VND filter or a permanent ND filter with the Anamorphic 1.33 lens, as well as a CPL filter and others.
    Good!
    However, everyone needs to understand whether ND, CPL, SMIST1/4, and other filters can be used simultaneously on one lens in various combinations, as this is critically important for any shooting.
    For example, when making videos of the city or nature in high lighting conditions, I need to use an ND or VND filter to reduce the shutter speed, but I also need to remove glare from the surfaces of plant leaves or from the surfaces of cars, water, windows, etc., and I need to use a CPL filter.
    As you understand, these filters are meaningless separately and can be used, but only in rare cases.
    I would appreciate clarification on this aspect, as it significantly affects the functionality of the entire system and gives a clear answer whether it's worth buying or it will be money thrown to the wind.

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have tried to find a solution to this conundrum with the filters but I have given uo. The issue is that freewell lenses have the thread for the filters on the outside of the lens. Whereas every other lens I know, the thread to mount filters on is on the inside of the frame/ housing. I hope it makes sense. This is clearly a way for freewell to ensure nobody adds any filter other than theirs and they have told me they don't believe in stacking filters as they believe it affects the image quality in a way they are not happy with. hence they make all their filters in such way so they can't be "stack".

  • @umbertoaguiar
    @umbertoaguiar 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks for. your review and know that your are not alone. I always thought that ND filters are much more important than added lenses for iPhone.
    And the email from Freewell doesn't mean much. This new release is a full-blown mess. I've just watched a review where the kit does have a tele lens. Yet, I asked Freewell about the tele lens and they told me that they don't have one yet.
    I FEEL CHEATED BY FREEWELL. They promised future proof gear. I bought their 1-5 and 6-9 VND Sherpa filters but they could never be compatible with lenses . You wouldn't have a problem with the sun if using the VND 6-9.
    I am mainly interested in tele lens as I use them to shoot interviews. I don't really care about wide angle, anamorphic etc . The macro sounds very interesting though. A lens without a proper ND filter is just half a lens because you can only use it indoors.
    You will. not find a solution for the. ND filter problem. You could shoot 60 fps (it is what I use as I shoot for an American broadcaster) which would put the shutter in 1/120 but that is the only thing you can do and it won't be enough in a bright , sunny day.
    I saw the wide angle lens on Amazon but couldtn' find ND filters for it.
    I have one big critic to your review: This is yet another review about a kit of lenses where the reviewer doesn't criticise the lack of essential lens caps. The lenses have no protection whatsoever.
    I did a lot of research, tried lots of equipment and finally managed to fit all the gear I need for professional shooting with iPhone in a medium sized backpack from K&F. I still have to carry the cage if I am using one. The Freewell kit ? There is no room for it in my backpack.
    I tested the new Shiftcam tele lens. It's sub par. I will put the test on air soon.
    I used Moment and Sandmarc. Not as good as Beastgrip.
    The main problem with Beastgrip is that their excellent cage is hostage of Apple's irresponsible manufacturing practices. Every year Apple releases a new iPhone Pro and every year the phone is ligthly bigger or smaller than the previous version. Just enough to force you to buy new cases etc.
    But if you work with Beastgrip you will have a multitude of options that you simply don't have with Freewell Sherpa l or Shiftcam ultra lens: You can use any ND filter you want. I used Freewell, Lee and Nisi with a Beastgrip lens, for example . I could never do that with Freewell and Shiftcam lenses, for example, because of their customer lock-in narrow minded, selfish policy.
    I was counting with Freewell but obviously their lenses will not be it . I just don't know the Italian Reeflex lenses ( I am very curious about them but at the moment can only afford to buy gear from Amazon via instalments and they don't sell on Amazon) but thinking about American (Beastgrip, Moment, Sandmarc) and Chinese (Freewell) lenses for iPhone I will say this : Beastgrip is still the king of the hill.

    Some reviewers have reviewed the telephoto lens for this kit around the same time you did this video.

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The macro is a telephoto with an adaptor to turn it into Macro. The thing is that I was prohibited by Freewell to review the telephoto lens from the kit they sent me as they told me they had found a last minute issue with the optics and they need to go back to the drawing board and remake it, before going to market. So that’s the reason I didn’t reviewed it. Those reviewers either challenged freewell and did something they were not allowed to do, or God knows what….
