Great video. I had lived in both Perth and Melbourne as well and love both cities. 😂 Could you do a video on Perth or compare Melbourne to Perth? Thank you very much!😄👍
Love your perspective on Melbs! As someone who has lived here my whole life, it all feels normal to me, I don’t notice the tricky bits! Also explains why when I travel I’m often disappointed in the food scene as I’ve been spoilt by the amazing options here!
As someone who has been visiting Melbourne for years and who is planning on moving by the end of the year, I think your pros and cons were right on the money. I find driving in Melbourne incredibly scary too!! I intend to bring my car, but will only use it if I have to e.g. will be using public transport to get around, day-to-day. I love the public transport system there, it really is very good, overall. I think Melbourne has the best vibe of any city I have ever been to; whatever your ethnic background, you are just part of the mix. And of course, the food is amazing! Now to keep on looking for apartments....
I'm born and lived all my life in Sydney and am moving to Europe soon but if I ever came back to Australia Melbourne is where I would go. Amazing city.
Jamie I'm also from Perth (north of the river, not too far from the ocean) and have also lived in Melbourne for years and years. I miss Perth/WA beaches too! 😭 I was a "water baby" growing up, thankfully my lifestyle isn't beach-dependent as an adult but I'd still like to have the option of being able to go to a great suburban beach without leaving the city. I actually like the changeability of Melbourne's weather, for the most part, because I know that if there's a scorching 40 degree day there's a good chance of the heat breaking tomorrow. A reprieve. Whereas in Perth summers it's just way too damn hot, over and over. And I empathise with those memories of musicians skipping Perth! I'll add a pro: Because there are lots of people in Melbourne who are from elsewhere, I think it's easier to strike new friendships, people on the whole are less insular and less limited to their existing/longstanding friend groups. And a con: How long the winters are. I don't mind the cold so much, but winter seems to start earlier and end much later here than in Perth.
That’s so cool that you’re from Perth as well, Joanne!! That’s such a good point about the weather, I really struggled during summer in Perth haha and yes!! Feel like Melbourne’s winter lasts very long. Completely agree with you about making new friends here ☺️ Thanks so much for watching and commenting, really appreciate it! 🥰
Everyone, and I do mean everyone, critiques the weather. For me though, it’s just about the main thing I’d wanna live there for. That’s one of the most unique things in the world.
The public transport is pretty good compared to other cities. Up until recently I’ve lived without a car. It is really good. Melbournians have just been climatized to quick transport so when it’s delayed it’s a bummer 😂
Thank you for the info! I’m thinking about moving to Melbourne to study, so I would love to see the financial side of the story as well. Lovely video and straight to the point. P.S. the weather changes doesn’t bother me too much because I already live in a city where is so random, you have to dress in layers and always carry an umbrella 🌂
I agree with Con #2: Roads. Having been living in Perth for the better part of the last decade, getting stuck in traffic for TWO-AND-A-HALF HOURS in Melbourne was shocking! Everything else has a lovely vibe... the energy, the fashion, culture (I wish I had more time to spend at the art gallery), the food is great.
Melbourne weather!!!!! I agree 100% 4 seasons in 1 day isn't a lie. Layer up your clothes, take an umbrella, sunscreen, sunnies, an extra warm jacket and carry all in a big bag. 🤣 From an x-qlder and semi Perth-ite. Love Melbourne though!! 🥰
Great vid! Considering moving to Melbourne next year to attend university, this video means everything to me! I’m looking forward to the cost-of-living vid.
I love love love Melbourne. It is so culturally Vibrant and Cosmopolitan. And walking and taking free tram in CBD and watching the festivals and buskers. The food is so amazing. Is the place I would really love to stay and not get bored with the mountain Ranges, nature, snow mountains just 1 or 2 hours drive to reach. And the crisp cold weather in the city is a Plus for me.
Great video! Very thoughtful perspectives. I moved to Melbourne from Maryland 3 years ago and I am still amazed by it every day. PTV is elite! Bus/trams/trains can get you pretty much anywhere. They are clean and pretty reliable. Only a hater would say otherwise!!
Although as a Melbournians who grew up most of his life in QLD I hate the hook turns and contending with trams on the road as well but you can’t complain about the roads here until you go to Sydney, what I call the pothole city and roads that make absolutely no sense
Regarding the beaches in Melbourne - Melbourne is on the Yarra River ( joined by the Maribynong River) which empties into huge Port Phillip Bay which empties into Bass Strait. The greater city area wraps around the bay on the east and west. There are quite are a number of beaches on both sides of the bay. Then there are more beaches on the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas and the open sea not too far away.
I remember Melbourne in the early 60’s. In the suburb where I lived we had a couple of fish n chip shops and a Chinese restaurant. If you wanted takeaway you had to bring your own saucepan. Now you can eat in a different country everyday for a year. Hook turns are easy. As for the beaches at least you’re not getting swept out to New Zealand.
Great🙏 I went tbere in 2016.My daughter and son were given full scholarships in their Masters degree in Melbourne. I really love the place because Australia is a very peaceful and progressive country. Thank you 👍😀

you can say that again about melbournes weather, i spent 72 hours in melbourne in the last week of july and it was 9c and pissing down with rain at 2pm on a monday afternoon, it was apparently 6c warmer back home in wellington new zealand that day
Oh I’m with you on the beaches! I grew up two hours from melbourne where the beaches are MUCH better. But good for a walk. Super used to driving in the city these days but I understand what you mean! - context - I live right in the cbd but have lived in multiple suburbs. The food and coffee and top notch.
Love your view on the different cultures and diversities/profiles of the suburbs here. Having lived in Perth for most of my life, you don't really have that. So true about having to travel out to get to a beach, let alone a nice one. Cottesloe stands out so so much. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Hi! My uncle lives in melbourne and i plan to move there either before uni or after uni and god i love it the atmosphere and everything. Yes the weather may be cold and rainy but eh cover up youll be right :) Also the regional trains are so good

Driving in LA and Mostar which is in BiH was definitely an “experience” 😅 Glad you’re loving the city! The weather is changing. Melbourne's weather is now a lot steadier. This Summer was absolutely perfect. Beautiful Summary. You are a great representation of this City.
On the beaches - Greater Melbourne offers awesome beaches and I've been snorkelling here for almost 2 years now, i.e., Ricketts Point, Half Moon Bay, the beaches of the Mornington Peninsula, etc. These beaches are only 15 minutes to an hour's drive from the CBD and sure, the waters are cold, especially in the autumn and winter months, but I love the sea life and diversity here. But if that's the case, most of the beaches from the CBD to the east and to the west (extending outside Greater Melbourne) have tons of these to offer as well.
This seems to be a very nice place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Nice video. Greetings from Sydney. Been to MEL around 5 times in total, but haven't been there since 2015. I reckon the Yarra River / Southbank area is so beautiful. Also like the Southern Cross Station area where we stayed at (Holiday Inn).
Thank you! Agree about the Yarra River area - so stunning! There's a few more waterfront restaurants that have opened up in the area which is lovely. Sounds like it's time for your next Melb trip :D
As a Melbourne person, the public transport has improved a lot in the last 10 years. I can see you are not a sporty person, but that's OK. There are different things here for everyone.
It's probably best next time, if you add the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Tennis Centre and Melbourne's mad passion for sport, even if it's not your thing. Anyway, happy Easter.
Jaaamie! 🙌🥰🥂 As an F1 fan, I really envy Melbourne's hosting of the Australian GP. 😭😂 Makes me think of moving to Melbourne - in addition to all the good things you've mentioned! 😄 Props again to the quality vlog! 👌💯🍻 Have a great week ahead!! 😄
I used to hate the weather too, now i miss it. Living in hot summer weather all year round gets really boring, who knew you live inside more in hot weather. You can't compare the bay beaches with actual beaches. The weather helps the city to be vibrant, when you live in seasons it encourages changes, fashion changes, menu's change. I also miss the Wine regions, only 45 mins away, cultrally progessive country towns like Daylesford and threntham. No where else in Australia has the diversity vibrancy and also work opportunities.
I SPENT A FEW MONTHS IN MELBOURNE 27 YEARS AGO AND ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I FELT AT HOME. I DON'T KNOW IF I EVER HAVE THE CHANCE TO GO THERE AGAIN BUT IT HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART WITH ALL OF AUSTRALIA. GREETINGS FROM ISRAEL
@@SundayswithJamie No worries however I just want to ask because I am still an undergrad and I am a single mom. I want to migrate together with my son in Melbourne, do you think it is possible for both of us to study in Melbourne? Thank you so much and more power to your channel❤
Thank you for sharing this info. I’m from Durban South Africa. Our humidity is just as bad id assume. I’m hoping to move to Melbourne next year having been granted a skilled visa. Please can you share information on rental costs and how to get rentals. Or share a link if you’ve done something similar. I’m just anxious as I hear there’s a housing shortage in Australia. Thanks
Im 26 and lived in melbourne my whole life and what you said about the weather really made me laugh its so true. I want to move because I cant stand it hahaha!
I have lived in Melbourne for my whole life, and half of these things (like the frequent weather changes) I just thought that was normal. Also, fun fact I thought the food was normal. Only a few hours ago I was having Gyoza and the night before it was Australian food!
Coming from far north queensland that weather here is whacky. We'd get weeks, sometimes months of just pure sunshine without a cloud in the sky compared to living down here where it's sunny for 10 minutes then raining for 10 minutes.
The food in Melbourne is even better than Singapore especially in the CBD where is cheap and good because of the competitive spirit. You are right. The culture is so alive. I love the erratic weather actually. Is exciting and when is cool, the air is so crisp. That is my memory of the MOST LIVEABLE city in the World and is still is. Yes I love 😍 love Melbourne Victoria city especially the CBD where the trams are 🆓. Miss the horses there. ❤️
Hi Jamie, I would love to see a video with a direct comparison between Perth and Melbourne! I am stuck deciding which city to move to in the new year for school, they both seem to have their pros and cons but I would love to hear which you prefer!
I have lived in both states if you like seasons then Melbourne is for you but if you love the heat then Perth is the place I no which one I would go for
Hi Tessa,Lived in Perth for 20 years, 2 years and a bit in Melbourne, just really depends on what you want out of living in the city and how that might impact school...but my overall take, Melbourne has lots of more this and that and the shitty weather and beaches. In Perth you just have to find the gems.. I don't know if this helps
I definitely agree with Patricia & Adrian on their points (I’ve lived in Melb my whole life). If you’re into a more fast paced city, a BIG night life, more diversity in people, food, cultures, entertainment + you’re okay with unstable weather (carry a small umbrella lol) and you’re good at managing your time (because you often have to factor 1-2 hours of commuting into your plans 🥲 painful sometimes) then you’ll vibe with Melb really well. The beaches in Melb are definitely pathetic😅 but you can have day trips or even a night away/weekend away when you explore beaches outside of Melbourne (there are some stunning areas around Victoria). Road trips are soooo fun on a summer day! I’ve visited Perth a handful of times & have family that live there to provide insight. It’s muccch more laidback & traffic (driving) isn’t as long or intense from experience. During my visits, I realised 40 minutes drives were considered ‘long’ by my family in Perth because everywhere is fairly close/ quick to drive to. The weather seems pretty damn perfect and predictable, the near by beaches were nice. Only downside for me was shops closing so early (I think 5pm? Someone pls correct me) and the lack of night life (because I’m too use to the Melb night life). Otherwise, it was very calming and relaxing ☺️
Hi Jamie! I love your videos - they’re so thoughtful and pretty! Would you consider making a video comparing living in Melbourne vs in the US/Boston? Thank you ☺️

This seems to be a very nice place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
thanks so much for watching!
Thanks for watching and commenting, Roger!
It's probably best next time, if you add the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Tennis Centre and Melbourne's mad passion for sport, even if it's not your thing. Anyway, happy Easter.
@@rogergraham2526 yeah that’s a great point! Thanks Roger, happy Easter to you too!
Jaaamie! 🙌🥰🥂 As an F1 fan, I really envy Melbourne's hosting of the Australian GP. 😭😂 Makes me think of moving to Melbourne - in addition to all the good things you've mentioned! 😄 Props again to the quality vlog! 👌💯🍻
Have a great week ahead!! 😄
Aw haha completely understand!! Thanks so much for watching Justine, appreciate you being here ☺️
I loved your videos. Can you pls make a video on pros and cons of living in Perth.
Thanks so much! I definitely will ☺️
i am praying that i get to study or live in melbourne 🙏🙏🙏
All the best! 🥰🤞🏼
Really enjoyed listen to your opinion on Melbourne. Where do you live? Near de CBD? I would love to see more content like that, expanses included!
I live about 30 mins from the CBD via public transport 😊 thanks so much! Planning to do a video about living costs in melbourne!
I'm scared of Australian summers cuz I live in Canada where it is pretty cold most of the year!
I still struggle with the summer haha i definitely understand!
I agree 👍 1 million percent.
Well, Sydney has more work opportunities and diversity and vibrancy. More beauty and much better weather and beaches and everything else.
IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE WEATHER IN MELBOURNE JUST WAIT 5 MINUTES,HEHEHEHE
So true 🤣
I just moved in, and tbh I love it..but its really stressful 🙃
so exciting you've moved in!
So nice to hear you loved Melbourne! It’s such a special city ☺️
Thanks for your video. Loved it.
So happy to hear! Thanks for watching grace 🥰
Very insightful! Thanks a lot fot the video!

Glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching!
I loveee your TH-cam name plus the fact that I am interested with your videos❤❤❤ It's my dream to move in Melbourne🥺
Thanks so much Aya, appreciate you watching!!
@@SundayswithJamie No worries however I just want to ask because I am still an undergrad and I am a single mom. I want to migrate together with my son in Melbourne, do you think it is possible for both of us to study in Melbourne? Thank you so much and more power to your channel❤
Melbourne weather sounds exactly like Auckland weather 🌧🌞
ooh interesting to know! have always wanted to visit NZ
i loved all your broll, it was so helpful!! new sub xx
Great to hear! Thanks so much for subscribing Lea!
I live there so yes MOVE TO MELBOURNE
FUN FACT Sydney actually has DOUBLE the rain of Melbourne, one thing that needs to be mentioned a bit more often
Oooh great fun fact
@ion7 neither does Melbourne, no where has all 4 seasons in one day, what a ridiculous comment
When it rains, it rains in Sydney and more like the subtropical summer rain. It doesn't drizzle throughout the year with depressing grey skies.
I’m looking forward to move to Melbourne
So exciting!
I arrived here on 16 November 2022
And now it s been more than two months
It s a beautifull multi cultural city
Thank you for sharing this info. I’m from Durban South Africa. Our humidity is just as bad id assume. I’m hoping to move to Melbourne next year having been granted a skilled visa. Please can you share information on rental costs and how to get rentals. Or share a link if you’ve done something similar. I’m just anxious as I hear there’s a housing shortage in Australia. Thanks
Moving from Africa to Melbourne soon
How exciting, all the best with your move!
Thanks 👍
Im 26 and lived in melbourne my whole life and what you said about the weather really made me laugh its so true. I want to move because I cant stand it hahaha!
Haha glad you could relate!! Would you live somewhere else in Aus?!
@@SundayswithJamie Im thinking the sunshine coast because i love the beach!
ahh love ur vids! so well put together
Thanks viannca! ☺️
I have lived in Melbourne for my whole life, and half of these things (like the frequent weather changes) I just thought that was normal.
Also, fun fact I thought the food was normal. Only a few hours ago I was having Gyoza and the night before it was Australian food!
haha amazing! Thanks so much for watching :)
Coming from far north queensland that weather here is whacky. We'd get weeks, sometimes months of just pure sunshine without a cloud in the sky compared to living down here where it's sunny for 10 minutes then raining for 10 minutes.
I'm actually confused about going to Sydney or Melbourne for work . Maybe you can put up a video to clear about the pros and cons
Aw thanks for leaving this lovely comment! Yes - love the Melbourne food scene so much 😍
Love your videos - thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks so much for watching 🥰
Yes Melbourne's weather may be ordinary but you can always go to NSW or QLD and have a wet suit as your daily outfit. Those guys really need a break.
Hi Jamie, I would love to see a video with a direct comparison between Perth and Melbourne! I am stuck deciding which city to move to in the new year for school, they both seem to have their pros and cons but I would love to hear which you prefer!
That’s a great idea! Thanks so much for watching and commenting Tessa 😊
@@patriciachippendale2022
Heat?
Thank you ☺️
I would love the same video as well! I am also thinking of moving to Melbourne from the US
Hi Karen!! Thanks so much 🥺💓 great idea!! It’s been a whiiiile since I lived in the US but will put this on my list ☺️
@@justincho965 so exciting!! Thanks for letting me know ☺️

Thank you!!! Appreciate you watching every Sunday ☺️
I live in Melbourne. Don't move here. The weather is terrible, it's cold 80% of the year!
Haha it’s great if you prefer the colder weather 😂
@@SundayswithJamie true, lol!!
Thanks. 🙏 I love the Cold and Crisp weather. Makes me want to go there now.
Tell us about your work permit. Are you a citizen, permanent resident? Subclass 190? I'm from Canada and looking to relocate with my wife in the next few months.
You say you make videos about finance, are you investing in real estate? I would like to learn more about the market there.
I also used to run a Chanel, but it was oilfield related...
Love this, can you make video about career, job's, and and cost of living in melbourne please? Love from indonesia❤

aw i get it!! it can get pretty hectic!
Hey jamie! new to the city, can you maybe suggest, or perhaps make a video on some of your go to cafe's/retaurants in and around the city? extra brownie pointss if they're vegetarian :D
Hi Amrit! I recently made a video on cafes/restaurants I love and a lot of them are in the CBD or the inner city suburbs. A lot of the places I recommend also have great vegan and vego options 😊 th-cam.com/video/eXx8CUJyz3Y/w-d-xo.html
