    Welcome to the nitro family! Ping sound is fine. These higher compression engines are harder to start. Wear gloves😆 You could loosen the glow plug a smidge to help it start easier. Not a fan of Traxxas fuel. I've used a few different fuels in the past. I liked Byron's but sadly they went out of business. I use VP now. What method are you using for break-in? Also adjusting the throttle is fine but as you go through your second and third tank you'll see you'll need to turn it back down.

      Thanks, I’m following HPI method of break in, 2 tanks idle and 2 tanks up to 1/2 throttle.

      Loved byron race 2500 gen2 fuel. Also sidewinder from morgan is great. Currenty I use nitrolux 25%, but dont like it as much. It’s the only fuel you can get here.

    Loving the change up in content here! Its nice to enjoy both nitro and electric RCs from time to time! I remember my first break in with my nitro Hpi savage, had many blisters from that 😂. People tend to lift the car up while it’s running as it’s usually better for the clutch, if the wheels are turning while the engine is ticking over at idle it will wear the clutch down prematurely if the car isn’t able to turn the wheels. If you look after the engine, preheat, after run oil, don’t let it run too lean & use better fuel (VP / Optimix) etc they do become much easier to start in the long run!

    I was already annoyed when It didn’t start the second pull. Nitro cars have a cool factor but, in The time it takes to get them going every run you could probably get through one Lipo pack.

      It's the opposite for me, I can't be bothered to wait for LiPos to charge, whereas I can just drop fuel in, engine starts in a few pulls. Part of the reason why I stopped running electrics altogether, even 6s was meh

    Dude ditch that traxxas fuel it stinks!! did you hear that pop sound when you could not start it up it was flooded why it was hard to pull over. when this happens unscrew the glow plug and pull it to make the fuel fly out and then put it back and try starting it. that ping is the clutch starting to grab that's normal. how to start them when you first put fuel in put your finger over the pipe outlet to block it and pull the starter until you see the fuel go through the tubing and into the carb and then pull it a couple more times then take your finger off and start it with the glow starter... it makes the fuel go into the lines and a little into the engine. you don't want to hold the exhaust long and keep pulling the starter because you will fill up to much fuel and it will flood and be hard to turn over like how you were trying to turn it over in this video I think you held your finger over it to long. You should use some VP fuels the master basher is good that traxxas is garbage. You always run fuel out and when motor stops you then put glow starter on and pull the starter and spark it up a few times to make all the left over fuel in the carb get used so it won't gum up if left for a while so it won't clog.

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good tips, yeah flooding has been my number one problem so far, learning though!

  • @raynelson6163

    Welcome to the nitro gang!! Step 1 save your fingers and get a starter box. I have the dynamite one and it works great. Step 2 watch as many Adam Drake videos as possible. He has break in, tuning and more. Step 3 get better fuel, traxxas fuel is garbage. VP or bones brew is much better, and easier to tune. The noise sounds like the clutch bell, your fine. Keep at it, you’ll get it, and you’ll have fun once it’s broken in.

  • @jonvoogd511
    @jonvoogd511 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should of gone with a Traxxas Revo 3.3,way better first nitro rc yeah it's a MT but it's got a auto start system so those blisters would not have happened. Hpi should have put their self starter system on that like their old savage x 4.6. I see it on eBay so it should fit on it. That sounded good to me but you'll have to let it run out of fuel completely then put a couple of drops of after run oil when you aren't going to run it for long lengths of set time. You did okay in my mind, great job brother 👏

    Looks like you’re getting the hang of it, still best advice I’ve ever heard for getting into nitro is don’t overthink it, learn the principles of operation and focus more on fun than trying to do everything absolutely perfectly, because without fun what’s the point?

    Well, you hot it running, and the pull start cord is still attached... That's win #1.
    As has been mentioned, you may need to turn in the idle screw a little to keep it from stalling, as the mixture set from the factory is rich for break-in procedure.
    Traxxas fuel is actually good for break-in, as it has a high oil content.
    When you're done with that fuel, definitely get different brand with 10%-12% oil content. VP, Byron's, Sidewinder race with 20%-30% nitro content ... Anything but Traxxas fuel.
    The confidence will build, Grasshopper.

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah second tank is looking like a pain to keep it from stalling, I think it’s running rich and eventually flooding.

  • @Firewlkre
    @Firewlkre 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best tip i can give u is if u preheat,turn up idle on radio, use a pretestested glow plug,prechecked igniter,fresh fuel,prime the carb and have good compression it should start up in less than 10 good pulls,if not stop! Recheck everything, pulling starter rope over and over again is a waste of time and effort.Also pinching fuel line is a good way to ocasionally shut down your engine because it can be used as a tuning tool if engine dies instantly its to lean about 3sec is right longer and engine is to rich.Once mastered nitro is great,1min to refuel as opposed to all the time and trouble to charge batteries.I compare it to the freedom of fly fishing compared to the cost (lures)and time (reeling in)wasted in spincasting.

    I remove the remaining fuel from the tank and let it run until it stalls so there is no fuel
    In the lines and engine. I then put some WD40 (after run oil) in the carb and engine to prevent moisture build up. I have a LOSI 8 Nitro RTR. After the first month I removed the pull start and put a back plate and picked up a ProTek starter box. So much easier to start!! Great video!!

    Add One Drop of After Run Oil once your finished running car. Pull the Starter Slowly for about 20 Pulls. Slowly Pull the Starter! The String Will Break if Snatched Hard! Nitro is Alcohol Based and it Will Rust inside the Engine with out After Run Oil. A Small Spritz of WD-40,Works Good Too if You Don’t have After Run oil.

    Your getting it. To prime I pull the hose off the exhaust and blow slow and easy till you see the fuel reach the carb. Saves ya few extra strokes. Yup don't run the tank empty till the motors all broke in. And make sure the piston is at bottom dead center ( BDC ) after running. Easy to feel.

    Hey man love your channel. I recently got the new HPI savage 4.6 (first nitro). Throw away the battery box if that’s what it came with - get a dedicated hump pack. This should save you from run aways which happened to my new savage during break in.

    Check that the piston is at bottom after running (just remove glow plug, and turn the fly wheel), so it will not get stuck when engine cool down. And put in 3-5 drops after run oil. Remove and clean air filter if you have been running in a lot if dust/dirt. Also remove any fuel left in tank or engine. I just let the engine idle last minutes, and run dry. The idle or rpm goes higher but that is ok, its just a short time. YEAH... I had a lot of the same issues the first time I did start my nitro. Just heat it up, get some fuel in (I blow the fuel tube), make sure the glow plug and ignitor is ok and with the transmitter I set some throttle by setting throttle mid point. Then pull, pull and pull. Sometimes it start fast, other times not. Good exercise.

    Woohoo! So cool to see you trying a nitro for the first time. You did great! it's a completely different experience and rewarding when you solve it.
    Couple tips:
    - this is a big one. Do not use nitro fuel with more than 12% oil content on that style of engine it causes a variety of challenges, runs hotter, smaller tuning window stalls at idle. Traxxas fuel is updated %16 precent which is too much.
    -good work on loosening the glow plug to release compression while starting that is exactly what to do. And preheating is a must on a new engine, wrap the head with a cloth to help keep heat in it. Measure temp at glow plug. Try to keep it at 200f you can use heat gun while the engine is running.
    -as the nitro engine breaks in it gets easier and easier to start. Keep at it. The biggest thing is keeping the temp up above 180F -200f. The piston cylinder fitment loosens in this temperature range.

    I just fired up a nitro last night. First time in 20 years and I shared a few of the issues you had, but once it got running it brought back some good memories. I think you will enjoy mastering the new challenges of this segment. The thing about nitro is it may not be as fast or powerful as my electrics, but it is so much more rewarding to run a properly tuned combustion engine imo. Brushless, high-powered cars are clean and predictable, but they will never give the user an experience like a nitro will. If you know, you know. NItRoGanG!
