Thank you so much for checking out our video on the Simms G4's and Patagonia Rio Gallegos. Let me know what your favorite waders are and some of the features you like in waders. Thanks again!!
I’ll add my two cents. I fish about 120 days a year, so I have pretty good insight. I love the rio Gallegos. They seem to never catch on any briar bushes, and I charge through like a grizzly bear. I literally try to destroy these waders , and roughly 360 days of rough use..... not one leak. I switched from sims, because Patagonias warranty and return can not be beaten. I’m very pleased with my decision. Overall, I think these are the best waders on the market.
CLFG, I would love to see a video of you discussing the most common failures of your equipment; most common leak areas in waders, most common rain jacket failures(leaks, fit, cuffs, etc.), and most common footwear issues(wading boots). I will check back to see if you have anything. Since you go out so many times a year, your experience would be very useful for us recreational fishermen.
Thanks for the great review. I just bought my first pair of waders, the Patagonia Rio Gaellegos (499.00) Medium Short pair over the weekend. I was going to go SIMMS but the Patagonia's fit me better. I am 5'6" 175. Stocky build. I buy a lot of Patagonia stuff but for waders was really leaning to SIMMS. I also wasn't thinking of spending 500.00 and the Freestone seemed like a great wader value. Anyway, I am pretty excited to go fishing! Your review is pretty much confirming the waders I bought should be good for me for a long time.
Thank you so much for watching Chris! It really means a lot :) You will definitely love the Patagonia waders for sure! After you've had them for a while, definitely feel free to share your experience with them. Thank you again!
Having used Simms products for years that continue to fail, and guide friends that swear by Patagonia, I think I know whose products I'll be buying from now on. And by the looks of it, Patagonia made those new zip up waders even cooler this year.
Thx for the good review. I agree 100% on getting a zipper. I have a set of Reddington waders that have lasted well over a couple seasons. Might be strange to notice, but belt loops matter for me because it helps manage stuff on a wading belt. Looks like the Patagonia might not have front loops..? Thx for putting this together, look fwd to follow up.
Thank you for watching and for your support of the channel! The Patagonia's don't have loops up front and of course the belt is flimsy so it is hard to keep heavier stuff on the belt without sagging. The Simms belt loops also can get a little weak and have fallen off on previous pairs I've owned, so I don't even use them, but the belt is super secure and heavy duty so it doesn't sag and can hold a ton of gear (pliers, bear spray, hand gun, etc.
what i like most about my Patagonia,s is they probably have 1 of the best Warranties in the business, plus i was able to have a custom size bootie put on to my xxl waders waders for about $30 ,my biggest complaint about most waders is the clown size booty they put on them ,when you are a short ,let's say stout guy, there is nothing worse than all the extra material in your wading boot ,
I totally agree on the warranty and that is awesome that they put custom booties in for you! I had no idea they did, but I suppose I don't see why they wouldn't. I really can't wait to get mine back in the mail, not only so I can use them both, but also that zipper is key!! Lol
Thanks. Appreciate. I purchased the G4 large (6’; 230) but I’m exchanging for the XL now to get some more kneeling and chest room. Awesome product from what I’ve seen.
I would hope the Simms hold up better at $250 more. The G3 to the RIO Gallegos is a better comparison. Just got word back from Simms they are unable to repair my G3 waders and suggest a new pair. I think I’m going Patagonia this time.
@@CooperLandingFishingGuide how much do you weigh and also your foot size? I'm 6.3 and weight about 225lb and have like 13 in shoe size. Looking to pick up a new waders and thinking on both simms G3 guide or the new patagonia swiftcurrent expedition but not with the zipper. No need for it. Think that XLL in patagonia would be sweet. And XLK in simms So just curios what u use in size on the patagonia swiftcurrent.
I’ve got some G3’s that I love but I’ve got some issues with, I’m only 6’2 215lbs and my LL are too short, tried on the Rio Gallegos today and will probably be going that route. Also for my size 13 ft I think Patagonia’s booties are a little more generous in size, my 12-13 G3 booties are pretty snug and that cancels out some heat... I’ve been with Simms for years but at 6’2 and exhausted a Large Long where do I go next? Solid video amigo
Thanks man! I really appreciate it! Yeah, I'm 6'5 and around 235 and the XL Longs are a pretty good fit on me in Simms and the Patagonia's fit well except the chest is a bit more "baggy." I do like the Patagonia booties though. They have a waffling that is meant to keep your feet warmer and I actually think they work. Bootie size with Patagonia seems to be dead on while the Simms booties seem to run a touch small. I hope you find the ones that work well for you! The Patagonia's are a very solid wader.
U didn’t mention the terrible seam across the knee on the simms and the thicker waffle insulated booties on the patagonia as well as padded knees in the padagonias
Hi Cooper!! Regards from Spain!! I already have two units from the Patagonia Rio Gallegos. I end up leaking water through the crotch area. Does it happen to you? I already have two units and I do not see it normal .... I took one more size of shot in this second unit but the same thing continues to happen to me .... :-( I do not exceed 60 departures per season
when you say , on the water . are you talking Fishing on the water IN a Boat or Hiking climbing , walking through bushes . and sliding down rocks. . I fish streams and hike and walk through bushes and slide down rocks . I have yet to find a Leak-Proof Wader My waders Normally last 2-3 years . and I fish 5-6 Times a Month.
Simms has really gone down hill in quality and in customer service in the past 15 years. The customer service sucks big time. They should replace them if the leak in the 1st 5 years for the price u pay for them. Also should repair them for 15 years!!!!! And definitely should give u yr money back if yr waders leak in the 1st time of use!!!!!!!!
100% correct..there customer service sucks and anything to deal with them at least for me was always an issue....this will be my last pair ever..every pair ive owned has leaked within 2 years..thats just bullshit when spending 500 and more on waders..ive always had the g3 guides also and not the cheap nock offs made overseas
Seriously????? Why the hell would u buy new waders for 550.00 and 1st time out they leak big time and should have to repair them at all u dumb ass???? Fucking Simms should have replaced them and given me free boots. Simms waders and customer service sucks big time!!!!!!!!!! Any leaked in the 1st 2 years they should Automatically replace them or get out of the buisness if they won't back their product and make a shitty waders now!!!!!

why are you cursing? they do what they do because they are the biggest co. of waders...they wont discount anything at no time to anyone...everyone just needs to not buy there waders for a yr or two and then you would see the prices come down..i wont ever own another pair of simms waders
Simms are overrated and over priced. Quality issues as well. Buy Patagonia or go less expensive from Caddis or other brands such as Sportsman's Warehouse in store brand Lost Creek.
Definitely gping to put them both through the ringer again this year and we'll see who comes out on top ;) I'm guessing the Simms will stand up to the test again :D. Thank you for checking out my vids!

That's awesome! I'm going to try out the new g4s vs the new Patagonia's soon and see how the new generation of both are

Simms are so much like most outdoor stuff unaffordable great video
And the new G4 waders are terrible :/
Thanks for the review. Height and weight for the XL Simms?
I would say 5'10- 6'2 or so for xl and maybe up to 250 lbs? Im 6'5" and about 260 and take XL Long

Cooper Landing Fishing Guide good luck! Took them three weeks to check mine in.
Are you still guiding after last years crazy fires? I will be fishing the area on and off all summer.
Yep, we sure are! Back and better than ever :)
What happened with the review on the new swiftcurrent?
I don’t have too much experience with this but I think zip front waders in general tend to be baggier above the waist
That could be true. I may see if I can squeeze into some G4Z's to find out lol. I'm 6'5" though and it's super hard to find the right fit :/

Regarding price remember the Simms are US made. May not mean anything to some but to me it's definitely worth a few bucks more.
Simms are made in China. Says it inside the waders
@@bobsartor1828 All goretex models are made in the USA. Non-goretex are imported.

I do lots of bushwhacking, probably 70 or 80 days of that a year and I find that wears waders out the fastest for sure
