i have internal assessment tomorrow and i had no idea to design a column. this video have helped me a lot. Thank you very much.its really helpful. Love from Karnataka
For me it's like i am mastering in R.C.C design completely from your channel, you have given a huge and undeniable support to many students in worldwide including me, thanks for your tireless efforts you always stand by us. I hope you should upload detail of Reinforcement at the final Conclusion of any structural member to do site implementation .
NICE VIDEO AGAIN ... I HAVE ONE DOUBT.. PLEASE HELP ME IN THE SAME... AT 9:05 MINUTES APPROX.. WHEN WE HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE AREA OF STEEL AS 1% OF GROSS AREA.. THEN WHY WE CALCULATED THE SAME THROUGH FORMULA ? ... WE COULD HAVE SIMPLY TAKEN IT TO BE 1% OF 168100 MM SQUARE.
What do u suggest sir? A column with 16mm 4 bars or A column with 12mm 6 bars (or 8 bars) for a 1+2 storied building. Being at NEast with prone to earthquake zone.
Area of steel at any given cross section need to be same. Whether you use 16mm dia or 12mm dia. For Detailing follow the given steps. 1. Keep the lapping staggered i.e not more tha. 50% of steel to be lapped at a point. 2. Stirrup hook to be bent at 135° and should be kept alternate. 3. Lower spacing of stirrup near supports and increased spacing near mid region. You can watch my video on column steel checking but it is in Hindi. th-cam.com/video/DLIMbUf4wzw/w-d-xo.html For more details refer is code 13920
Please add details for ties spacing in Confinement zone. Spacing of ties in confinement zone should not be more than 100 mm. For more details refer IS 13920.
Can any one tellme that while calculating load on column for designing a column should we take the load of all beams which is in the structure or should only take the beam which is on that column please answer as early as possible
I want to know that for area of the concrete in helical reinforced column we take the area of core minus area of steel or gross area minus area of steel.
Sir I could not understand L/500 the value of L. Procedure of detail calculation of Pu in both cases in load bearing capacity in column designing. I would remain thankful to you
Value of L will be equal to the effective length of column. in real life it will be distance between slab top and beam bottom. Actually the Pu value is the load carrying capacity of column it will depend upon two things first is concrete and other is steel. so what we do here is Pu = (load carried by concrete)+(load carried by steel) = ( 0.45 fck x Ac ) + (0.87fy Ast)
Vishvesh Patel skip to 4:23 I said it has been assumed that the load is ultimate load. Hence partial safety factor is already applied. Thanks for watching.
Axial load will be acting on columns when the column support simply supported beams. The shear forces at the ends of the beams will act as point load on the columns.
Thanks for watching. For diameter youu have to choose a size of bar greater than the given two cases. Same for the pitch. In practice 6mm bar is seldom used. Nowadays minimum size for lateral reinforcement in columns is taken as 8mm.
Nice question. See, we got dimension of column as 404mm but we rounded it off to 410mm as a result of which the gross area got changed and also the assumption that Asc=0.01% of Ag will change.
Yes they are still manufactured and used. However 6 mm bars are Mild Steel bars and are used for small works like bungalows, temporary structures. they are usually used as distribution steel in chajjas and ties in columns. wherever there is a requirement of HYSD bars 6mm bars are never used.
Im sorry for the late reply. Steel area is assumed 1% of gross area there fore = Asc = 0.01Ag Area of concrete will be total area of column after deduction of steel area.
Why you provide only one ties for 8 main bars? Isn't it 2 ties? In section, one main bar is also at centre.. isn't it? I think u r doing mistake drawing..
For small sizes of columns one tie is enough to support 8 bars for large column more than 600mm size you need to provide secondary links to hold down the central main bars also.
Apke hisab se ap choose kar sakte ho..dia kam rakhoge to no of bars zyada ayege..aur dia badha doge to no of bars kam ho jayege.. Itna dhyan dena kam se kam 4bar ho ek column me koi bhi dia ka.
Yes. It goes like this if you are constructing a G+4 house you need to have a column of atleast 450X450mm with 8-16mm bars keep reducing the size of column by 50mm and 2nos steel for every 4 floor increase.

Thankyou for explaining in English.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Very well explained in very simple manner. Thanks.
boht hi bhadiyan padhaye bhaiya. kaise kar lete hain aap.
In question if mentioned to design a column as per IS 456: 2000, does it mean LSM? or we can use WSM too?
Use lsm it's easy
It is for short column or long column???
I learned a lot from this vedeo about column design
Thank you
10:43 "d= smallest diameter of the longitudinal reinforcement" not largest.
Great. I have DSS paper next month
how to assume the diameter of main steel bar after Asc

From where we get the axial load of columns
How can you claculate one bar = 201mm
Best videos for college exam.

bhai longitudinal steel ka diameter kaise decide karte hai? 20mm lagega ya 16 mm
It's as per your wish..u can take any.
How we take dia ? In asc provided
But How To Find Any Building Axial Load Acting On The Column?
It will be the reaction from the beam.
How area of 1 bar 201mm?
Good evening sir. what is the first step of the column design.
You need to know the axial load acting on the column.
Excellent explanation thank u it helped me a lot
sir can please upload a video for designing footing with reinforcement ?? if you have uploaded then please share the link
Please add details for ties spacing in Confinement zone.
Spacing of ties in confinement zone should not be more than 100 mm. For more details refer IS 13920.
correct.

Nice vedio. Only one problem the focus was not proper thereby causing visibilty.propblem in reading Otherwise nice veduo thanks
Sorry for that hehe. Will keep that in mind 😅
What I do to design column and beans for building ? Please make an video in detail please please please sir ☺
Transverse reinforcement dia of bar should not be less than 6mm, not 5mm as you have mentioned
Nice work, thank you
you have missed a main reinforcment bar in middle in the section xx.......anyway thank you so much!!
The distance between main bars???
How did you find Ac
Can any one tellme that while calculating load on column for designing a column should we take the load of all beams which is in the structure or should only take the beam which is on that column please answer as early as possible
Do youOne building full detailed design
Bro. how we have to choose the steel practically in site i.e
Fe250 or Fe415 or Fe500
Nice very informative video.
is the formula of Pu given somewhere in codebook?
Why did u choose 16 mm dia steel instead of 20 mm... It could be provided naa
Ofcourse it can be used but make sure for square columns we use minimum 4bars and circular columns we use min 6bars. This is as per IS456 requirements
Where we get axial load
EXCELLENT...KEEP IT UP.

Nice plz upload more lecture
4 beams rest on a colmn how take loads from those beams to design a colmn.
Consider the shear force from the resting beams as axial force on column.
I want to know that for area of the concrete in helical reinforced column we take the area of core minus area of steel or gross area minus area of steel.
Abhishek Tomar area of concrete is gross area minus only area of the main steel bar. Ac= Ag - Asc hope you understand.
Everything Civil thanks.
thank you sir, please explain uniaxial and biaxial loaded column design.
Sir I could not understand L/500 the value of L. Procedure of detail calculation of Pu in both cases in load bearing capacity in column designing. I would remain thankful to you
Value of L will be equal to the effective length of column. in real life it will be distance between slab top and beam bottom.

so what we do here is
Pu = (load carried by concrete)+(load carried by steel)
= ( 0.45 fck x Ac ) + (0.87fy Ast)
Why didn't you factor the load? i.e. multiply the load to be resisted by 1.5
Vishvesh Patel skip to 4:23 I said it has been assumed that the load is ultimate load. Hence partial safety factor is already applied. Thanks for watching.
Thankyou for replying. :)
Vishvesh Patel ö
Very usefully..

what is process for rectangular column
how to calculate the axial load acting on column? refer process.
Axial load will be acting on columns when the column support simply supported beams. The shear forces at the ends of the beams will act as point load on the columns.
in one ques there are ultimate moent major and minor ... how to solve that ques?
Again very helpful! Thank you
what if the eccentricity is less than 20?
than u are on the safer side if u design considering the above-mentioned assumption.
nice video sir...but dia & pitch for transverse r/f are largest and smallest respectiv..
Thanks for watching. For diameter youu have to choose a size of bar greater than the given two cases. Same for the pitch. In practice 6mm bar is seldom used. Nowadays minimum size for lateral reinforcement in columns is taken as 8mm.
tq for clarifying it

please tell me why we calculate Asc after getting dimension of column it is 0.01% of Ag
Nice question. See, we got dimension of column as 404mm but we rounded it off to 410mm as a result of which the gross area got changed and also the assumption that Asc=0.01% of Ag will change.
Minimum Dia of lateral ties is 6 mm & not 5 mm.
Yes. Thanks for pointing out the error.
I have a question sir can u give me ans please 😞
What?
why don't you take first equation, that is Pu=.45fckAc+.67fyAsc. you have taken. 40fckAc+.67fyAsc.
Very much helpful 🙏
Nicely elaborated. Keep up the good work. New subscriber here.
What is eccentricity of column???
When the load transfer does not happen through CG of the section
Nice, how about rebar spacing?
It depends upon the total no of bars you are providing in the section. However it should not be less than the size of the biggest aggregate used
Pls put down ur phone vibration nd ring mode to silent mode.. its very irritating and disturbing while grasping something important..
Yes. I have taken care of that in all my further videos. Thanks for watching
Good job
Is there 6mm bars in industry
Yes they are still manufactured and used. However 6 mm bars are Mild Steel bars and are used for small works like bungalows, temporary structures. they are usually used as distribution steel in chajjas and ties in columns. wherever there is a requirement of HYSD bars 6mm bars are never used.
wonderful sir
❤️❤️
how you found Ag at 2 nd step
Asc was 0.01Ag and Ac was 0.99 Ag. everything was in terms of Ag so i solved the equation for Ag and got AG.
How area of an individual bar is calculated from Asc ? @9:15
Nihilist area of individual bar = (pi/4)*Dia^2
So my question is how you assume tha 16mm dia bar to calculate area of 1 bar..???
If any body know please tell me..
You are designing the column so it's your choice whichever dia of bar you want. But don't choose less than 12 mm dia.
@@gauravjha6615 shukriya bhai 👍
What if the e min does not satisfy?
Increase the size of cross section or reduce length. But in reality length is fixed so you can change cross section.
Area of 1 bar how to find 201
(π/4)x16² = 201mm² . Here 16 is dia of bar. Hope it helped u.
Mere bhai dia of ties bar one fourt of dia of bar
6mm
Not 5 mm.
Rahul Singh in is code it is 5,mm but it should never be less than 6mm maybe there is an error in the code
thank you sir, very good information
Thank you so much for watching.
Hello... Can you please upload the design for uniaxial and biaxial bending.
I can upload a video on analysis for uniaxial and biaxial
Gross area of column = 152100mm^2

How did he get asc=0.01ag
Ac=ag-asc
=0.99ag can someone tell me asap
Im sorry for the late reply.
Steel area is assumed 1% of gross area there fore = Asc = 0.01Ag
Area of concrete will be total area of column after deduction of steel area.
Size of column = 390mm x 390mm
Bro how to design a uniaxial columns and how to differentiate the column weather the columns is unaxial biaxial columns in field condition
Can you send me the hard copys photo u sloved
please upload flat slab design sir
Sir long coloumn ki design short coloum jaise hoti hai kya??
No
nice work,
Thanks for watching
What is p)30
I assume u are asking 1:10 which is D/30 where D is the shorter side of the column. If im wrong please state your doubt clearly.
thank you brother.....
Pu = 0.4 fck / 0.45 fck ? When you solve the calculation
Ag = 149694mm^2
Why you provide only one ties for 8 main bars? Isn't it 2 ties? In section, one main bar is also at centre.. isn't it? I think u r doing mistake drawing..

But U Got 1750KN
U did not apply fos
ABHIJIT MISHRA thanks for the concern actually in this problem the give load was already assumed factored load i.e the Fos was already applied
nice bro
Thanks
Now tell ag value Direct calculate values
168100-Asc solve nahi ho rha 3rd step
Bracket ko sirf equation ke right me rakho baki sab terms ko left me leke jao tab solve hoga.
Sir column main 16 dia steel provide hona hai ja 20 dia ka ja fer 12 dia ka j hme kaha se pata chalega hum kese decide kr skte hai

Thanx sir
this is too much technical..hw will u explain to a layman who is going to built a RCC house?
Yes. It goes like this if you are constructing a G+4 house you need to have a column of atleast 450X450mm with 8-16mm bars keep reducing the size of column by 50mm and 2nos steel for every 4 floor increase.
Wrong value of Ag
