    Hello Sir, I'm Vivek Katkar from Maharashtra..
    If we take d = 120mm then the basic value of L/d ratio comes out to be 33 whereas in IS Code, the value should not be more than 20 for Simply Supported Slab..
    If we take L/d ratio as 20, then d=200mm. But the criteria of Minimum reinforcement of 0.12% does not get satisfied for d=200 mm.
    Therefore, the problem remains unsolved..
    Please Guide...

    Hi Sir,
    Excellent class. Have to ask you about Step one where in IS 456:2000 page 37 was made as a reference from your end however there is a note in Page 39 clause 24.1 of IS 456:2000 stating for solid slabs as :
    NOTES
    For two-way slabs of shorter spans(up to 3m) with mild
    steel reinforcement, the span to overall depth ratios given
    below may generally be assumed to satisfy vertical
    deflection limits for loading class up to 3 kN/m square•
    Simply supported slabs 35
    Continuous slabs 40
    For high strength deformed bars of grade Fe415, the values
    given above should be multiplied by 0.8
    in this lecture class the span length is more than 3m hence, will this be the case to be considered or what ???

    or should we resort to pg.96 formula?

    Sir since we took dx as 120 instead of 200, the slab failed in deflection then why did we reduce dx ?Still not clear sir. If we had taken 200 mm as dx then it would not have failed.
    Am i right sir?

    In Mx and My calculation from page 91 of IS 456, you have taken lx value as 4.12m which is effective lx span. Actually lx means just shorter span 4m, isn't it? I think we should take 4m in both Mx and My formulas. Pls clarify this sir. The code book also mentions lx and ly meanings to be just short and long spans in pg 90 IS 456.The code book also doesn't justify lx to effective length lx.

    • @shivamsharanlall672
      @shivamsharanlall672 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the lx and ly are the effective spans,not the clear spans.
      In the beginning when ly/lx is calculated, ratio of the clear spans are taken i.e. 5/4 = 1.25.
      But 5.12 / 4.12= 1.2427
      So, there is not much difference in the values.
      The ratio of clear spans are taken to just get an approximation that it is which kind of slab.
      If you see in the book( B.c Punmia), there they calculate the effective spans first.
      Then any calculation afterwards.
      So lx and ly are the effective spans only.
      If things are confusing,then it is better to go with the derivations of the formula

    Why we are not referring table 26 ?

    • @structuralanalysisanddesign
      @structuralanalysisanddesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because Table 26 is for provision for torsion at corners i.e. corners are held down. Where as this video explains corners free to lift that is why table 27 is used
