You never know. It could be a crossover between the movie and the comic book character and Marvel technically couldn't put their name in front of it. :P
The height creep is really a deal breaker for me even if ML got suddenly way better (this is also why I usually dont buy Necas of regular sized characters, just figures big enough to fit in easier). Since I like to collect imports which are generally true 1/12 scale, they dont mess well with each other unless its someone like the Hulk.
I think the high creep is happening because everything used to made to be comparable height wise to the bucky cap mold. The Vulcan mold is better but it also towers over the bucky cap. So if everything has to be in scale with that we about to get some big figures
Wow these really are a whole lot better than the last batch. I see what you mean about the detailed heads and I agree they definitely should've added more to the bodies fo balance it out. Gambit and Pyslocke are my favorite from this pack
Fandom says Darwin is 6'4", Psylocke is 5'11", and Gambit is 6'2". I not sure how that converts into 6in(too much math 😅), but I'd like varying heights. It's the constant reuse 😔
Paul Harding is the one who sculpted the faces and hes the one whos responsible for alot of the semi realistic sculpts for the faces. Its very peculiar once you notice his signature way of sculpting stuff which gets a little obvious when you look at these figures and other figures he sculpts for like the Amazon 3 Pack Venom heads, etc.
True story! Paul's much better than the guy who sculpts eyes too far apart and all of his female portraits look the same. The best portrait sculptor they've ever worked with is Mayshelf, IMO
@whitespyder9 yeah sadly Mayshelf isnt doing marvel legends stuff a ton like he used to which explains the aesthetic shift over time but he still is doing some figures as a whole like Doc Ock and the red guy from the Haslab Galactus.
The height creep definitely isn't helped by the fact that the lower legs are all 10-20% too long. Easiest way for them to spend as little as possible to get those heights increased which probably sells better with windowless packages and online.
I’m actually one of those who -as of now- only got this three pack. Had none of the characters and liked the headsculpts and accessories. Yes, Psylocke’s hair is a bit weird, which is a shame, but still the some of the best headsculpts they’ve put out till that point. I also found the body molds included in this three pack beat the other one (I mean, better two Vulcan Molds than one Vulcan and the teen girl mold), which you clearly pointed out comparing both sets. After watching your review on the other set I decided I’ll only get it in case I find it heavily clearanced. The wolverine fig as well. Ach, Hasbro… 😂 Great title text in the thumbnail btw.!
I only picked this one up because I'm not really a 90's X-Men guy and I mostly just wanted Banshee. Also it was 55 bucks on Amazon which feels about right. No way was I gonna buy it for 80 or whatever retail was
Idk if you could tell while recording this video (I didn't even notice until I saw it), but Gambit looks like he has some shading on his cheeks that make it look like his eyes are slightly glowing. It's a nice effect, imo.
I got both sets on sale, I'm Premium so I got the better discount. Basically got both for what 1 would have cost me. I basically needed Banshee and Forge, the other Figures were just a bonus.
I was actually planning in getting Storm's team, but after seeing your review I changed my mind. I'll probably get this one, once it drops in price. I could care less of completing a team look.
Imo the height creep is part of the attempt to produce updated, "improved" figures of characters already done previously by Hasbro or by Toybiz, and making sure that they're NOT in-scale. So collectors are forced into completely replacing their display with newer figures, as opposed to picking and choosing between new and old figures in the same display. It's a business decision.
For Psylocke I wanted to use the karate chop hand on the left hand (as it is depicted on the back of the package which is supposed to show what's inside the box). I was a little irked when I realized what actually comes in the box is a karate chop hand that is only for the right hand.
Yes you are correct as Darwin stands 6ft 4in and Psylocke is 5'11 and Banshee is 6' and Gambit is 6'1 so they are all incorrect height compared to Darwin!!!
IMO the belt looks bad on the female buck not because it's too high. It's about the same height on the body as it should be... maybe even a bit higher. The problem is the relatively dumpy body proportions of the buck compared to comic source art. The figure torso isn't hourglass enough to have the belt accentuate the narrow waist, so it ends up looking bulky and off.
I've seen someone who removed the makeup on Psylocke's head and it truly how's good that sculpt really is. Great review. I got both, because I feel this set will be used for customs/kitbashes.
Same here. Stick with one look for both heads. Mind you the mutton chop version could look good on an Imperial officer bod for Black Series. 70's sideburns.👍
It’s funny. I actually just got this 3-pack by itself because the Forge in the other one turned me right off. His leg looked ridiculous. Glad I stuck with just this one.
Something about the hair sculpt on Psylocke bothers me. Or he face. She doesn't look Asian at all to me. She looks a little like Lindsey Lohan to me. A dolled up Lindsey Lohan, not the meth addict Lindsey Lohan. I did get this 3 pack and not the other. I didn't care for how Storm looked. I can't stand Jubilee. And after seeing her mammoth head, I'm very happy I passed on it. I am displaying this 3 pack with the matching Wolverine and the Animated Cyclops (I removed the cell shading). So the 5 of them look good despite seeing a bit of Lindsey Lohan in it.
Anthony, I can always hear your smirk when you say I will show you my package 😉 I can picture the Hasbro executive steeple his hands(Simpsons) and grin when the team show how much parts reuse is used for any given line to offset any new parts. I would love to have the whole X-men '97 team but the quality and part choices lose me. Different people, in a different room made these decisions or my Simpsons analogy is 🎯. Great review ✌️
They look pretty good, but if Hasbro bothered to add some paint detail and shading to the bodies, they'd look so much better. The head sculpts look nice but why has Banshee got two completely different hair styles? Can someone tell me why the X-Men wore these New Mutant style costumes, when they had their own and were fully fledged X-Men?
I gotta say the shoulders on marvel legends are getting less worse… I have a few with the weird collarbone that sits around the top of the chest with the tiny ball shoulders that sink into the ribcage. These ones are kind of in between, I’d prefer all of them have the ghost rider/longshot shoulder set up.
and yeah i do not want bogus storm and whatever forge.. all i would be cool with is finding Jubilee on ebay because that is the first time i read her in the comics, and she cracked me up
This is to be expected. There is a reason why hasbro is the only ones doing these obscure costumes. I don’t expect ground breaking figures for obscure looks. Those are reserved for the most popular characters and looks. Thats what mafex and hot toys is for.
Anthony, will you be reviewing the McFarlane Toys Batman: The Animated Series wave that's out now? As much as I love Batman: The Animated Series, the cel shading is terrible especially on Batman. I'm sticking to my original DC Direct Batman release and Combat Belt Batman from Kenner. Thank you!
Im not seeing what you are with the Gambit head. Garbage sculpt with goofy hair. 9 times out of 10 Gambit has goofy hair in his figure renditions. Shame. And the man-purse? Lol. I guess at some point they'll give him a fanny pack.
They really should've put "Marvel's Gambit" on the box. I picked this up thinking he was from the 2012 movie "Gambit"
You never know. It could be a crossover between the movie and the comic book character and Marvel technically couldn't put their name in front of it. :P
@@pletho79 It's really not sufficient no, that's why they still do it
If tou don't want it I'll gladly buy it 😂
Banshee's yelling head really looks much better than the other. The feet look even stranger on Wolverine, he seems to always get huge feet.
I picked this set up and passed on the other one for obvious reasons. Gambit looks even better with the soft goods coat I picked up on AliExpress.
"Silly hasbro" isn't that the quote of the year lol
I think the high creep is happening because everything used to made to be comparable height wise to the bucky cap mold. The Vulcan mold is better but it also towers over the bucky cap. So if everything has to be in scale with that we about to get some big figures

I just want the Banshee.. will buy if it drops in price or wait for the eventual release of the green costume Banshee...
Did you glbuy him? The price dropped on Amazon October prime day.
Idk if you could tell while recording this video (I didn't even notice until I saw it), but Gambit looks like he has some shading on his cheeks that make it look like his eyes are slightly glowing. It's a nice effect, imo.

On sale on Amazon for $54

They still haven't gotten the psylocke that we all need 🤦🏿♂️ but it's the btst ML version so far. the other head sculpts are great though.

6:17 lol you got me there! 😂
Are you planning on reviewing 97 wolverine or bishop?
Amazing reviews as always.
I'll review all of them

I wish they either kept the chops or didn’t for both heads. Looks like he’s screaming them off if you take a series of pics lol
Same here. Stick with one look for both heads. Mind you the mutton chop version could look good on an Imperial officer bod for Black Series. 70's sideburns.👍
Anyone knows if the gambit head fits on the old gambit figure we got a few years ago?
It’s funny. I actually just got this 3-pack by itself because the Forge in the other one turned me right off. His leg looked ridiculous. Glad I stuck with just this one.
Decent figures I guess btw when are you gonna review 3rd form frieza?
Filming today
I would only pick Banshee.
i just bought this from amazon october sales whatever, i hope they're good and have all their proper hands and faces
they hired that really good toy photographer guy for promotional images but don't put those poses on the box even though it would make a lot of sense

Love your show bro
thanks a lot
Just picked this up for $54 on Amazon. I think that's a good deal for this pack.
Indeed
Thanks for the review as ever, Anthony from the United Kingdom xxx.
I'm very glad I canceled these.
Psylocke is 5 9 in the comics.
Cam we get a re release of Psylocke with an angry head and the black widow body.
and yeah i do not want bogus storm and whatever forge.. all i would be cool with is finding Jubilee on ebay because that is the first time i read her in the comics, and she cracked me up

I was thinking about it but some of them look really bad and the baf is a terrible choice
I agree with you. Cheers.
@@AnthonysCustomswho would you of wanted for the baf?
Almost anything else
@@AnthonysCustoms Captain Clown would of been my prime choice. Minotaur (Riddlers maze) as a deluxe in the future.
This has the best Marvel Legends Face Sculpt for Gambit and Psylocke, I just don't like their suits
I don't like the realistic faces/heads on comic book versions, it feels uncanny valley
👍
Pyslocke's face looks like a mannequin almost. It's not bad but compared to the other faces there's not much life in those eyes.
😎👍🏼
