    Glitter is normal, just keep tabs on what's in the oil itself and if it continues on your 7th schedule oil change then check the oil pan for a glitter bomb. Babbitt bearings loves to make the oil festive when your braking them in.

    Thats a huge amout of metal it caught! Probably normal for a break in after a rebuild. But imagine if some portion of that metal got funneled down to the main bearigns or got anywhere else. Engine longevity is closely negatively linked to circulating metal particles in the oil, especially iron particles. So a filter is really good for longevity.

    Great Video as usual. It was inspiring to see the Model A touring the country again. HOWEVER, I was a bit surprised over your technique to extract your car from the trench. Over here in America, we tend to PUSH our cars out of ditches from the front, rather then pull from the rear. It avoids the nasty chance of running over our helpers !!! :)

      @@AstraWerke 🤣🤣I parked my 1932 Ford on an inclined driveway with the engine running and I walked away to take a picture. Unfortunately the emergency brake was not adjusted properly so the car began to roll backwards towards a small pond. It was moving to fast to attempt to climb in, so I lunged at the gear shifter and pulled it into 1st gear, of course with no use of the clutch. That motion killed the engine and stopped the car a few feet from a horrible BATH !!

    It should be golden soon, the oil filter grabbed some of the normal break in metals, bearings, thrust surface clearance etc, and some machining metals that were possibly trapped in oil passages etc. There is nothing that you showed that is out of the normal for a new engine build. Cut open the next two filters and it should be about nothing by the 3rd filter is my experience...
    Great video, looks like yall had a blast. Road trips are great in these cars for sure; and with friends is what makes them the best.
    The lightened flywheel is a hands down winner for these motors, frees up some HP and allows it to work better in my opinion. After 5k miles the motor will be a peak operating performance for sure. The heat early on was the rings seating, and other clearances setting in, and when the motor started running cooler was when the rings started to really get seated in and she got happy. Always normal to run hotter for a while till she is broken in. Glad to see it is acting normal like a break in should be.
    Keep up the good work brother.

    • @AstraWerke
      @AstraWerke  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a relief to hear.
      Many people advised me against the lightened flywheel - "you'll have less torque, it'll run rough" etc etc...
      I can't agree on any of it. The engine is more peppy than ever and runs nice and smooth.

    • @RolftheRed
      @RolftheRed หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree based on my experiences as well. That is well within the normal level on the rebuilt early Ford V-8's I've done. As well I also advise checking at least the next two-three filters. Yeah, for a daily driver on pavement, a lightened flywheel is just fine I think. Have fun, which is what you looked to have. Except for that falling off the jack part, That totally freaked me out. Happy Trails!

  • @alexiskai

    If attempting to extract a car from a ditch backwards, have your helpers stand at the front and sides of the car and push, rather than pulling while standing directly in the path of the reversing vehicle. Although I suppose standing at the front might have been seen as risky if the car didn't make it out of the ditch.
    Glad to see the filter setup worked out for you; I love empirical verification.

    • @AstraWerke
      @AstraWerke  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We briefly tried - but there just wasn't a good angle to push the car from. The headlight bar would have bent, the bumper was on the ground, the fenders couldn't be grasped.
      So it came down to a delicate foot on the clutch not to run the 3 over ;P

      the Model 70 (which was designed and made by AC Cars Ltd, Yes that AC of Cobra fame! but also built by Invacar Ltd, 2 otherwise separate companies which made completely separate machines before the Model 70) is a 4 stroke machine, its powered by a an Austrian flat twin 493cc engine by Steyr puch, driving through a centrifugal clutch a unique to the Model 70, AC Cars Gearbox (for forward/reverse), which then drives a Salsbury (Comet) CVT transmission, that then sends drive via a triplex chain drive to the a Fiat 500 differential and out to the road wheels, one of the few vehicles I know of that genuinely has a gearbox a transmission and a chain drive, in their most literal sense all in one!
      the Invalid vehicles that Predated the Model 70 (like the AC Acedes and Invacar Mk12), where the 2 stroke ones, more often than not powered by a single cylinder Villiers 197cc engine, with manual gearbox driving a chain drive to the left rear wheel, yeah one wheel drive Yo!
      anyways I could (and genuinely have done!) ramble on about these for hours :)

      @@AstraWerke Danke für die Antwort! Mich hat es zudem erstaunt, wieviel Mühe man sich in den USA mit Nachfertigungen gibt: Ich kenne kein anderes Auto ausser dem Ford-A-Modell, wo man per Nachfertigung einen fünffach gelagerten Vierzylinder (anstatt drei Lagern wie im Original) anbietet. Das zeigt, wie sehr man an der Sache interessiert ist.

    Die Menge Abrieb ist normal, bei meinem ford b Motor hab ich das Einlauf nach ca 50km getauscht....das war komplett grausilber.
    Die zweite ölfüllung sieht nach 250 meilen noch relativ sauber aus. Ich fahre ohne Filter.
    Ich würde das bei dir als normal ansehen.

    • @hansosl
      @hansosl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ich denke die zweite ölfüllung bei hat die meiste Aussagekraft, denn eigentlich sind kolbenringe nach 100-200 km eingelaufen.
      Heute gibt es auch Betriebe die nach dem hohen mit einer Kunststoff Bürste nachholen, damit umgeht man das einfahren komplett... gut gebaute Motoren sind nach 1 Betriebsstunden und 1. Ölwechsel vollgaßfest....

    Q: what kind of attention do you get (or not) from people? as well as their comments? I have had a 1930 Coupe as a daily driver as well and find it interesting to see just who is interested and what their level of interest is.

      What was the most striking to me is that everyone seems to love the car.
      Old, young, Man, Woman - they all smile and wave. Definately not a car for incognito travels.
      The only thing that can become slightly annoying over time is the ever-lasting

      😱 Oh mein Gott. Ja, bitte bloß nicht! Natürlich ist alles reine Geschmackssache. Aber wie kommentierten letzthin einige amerikanische Zuschauer zu VGG jedoch: "Always the same. If you have seen one, you have seen all!". Nach ein paar Videos habe ich aufgehört mir diesen Typen anzuschauen. Wie so viele juhutjuuber ist er mit wachsendem Erfolg zusätzlich deutlich zu überheblich geworden. Er gibt u.A. auch einen Dreck auf die Umwelt und Verantwortung. Er ist außerdem nur auf noch mehr Views = Geld aus. Ich empfinde sein Verhalten auch nicht länger als joking around but as fooling around way too much. Genau wie bei Puddin's fab shop. Mittlerweile dort viiiiiel zu viel Geplapper, fooling around and talking about his merchandise anstatt dem Arbeiten an Vehikeln. Habe daher gestern beschlossen solche, meine Zeit verschwendenden, Videos nicht weiter/länger anzuschauen. Ich kann respektive erlaube mir hier aber zum Beispiel den Kanal No Nonsense Know How wärmstens zu empfehlen. Coldwarmotors, Strong's Garage und Johnathan W. selbstverständlich auch.
      Viele Grüße, Glück und Gesundheit im Besonderen.
