  • Lotta games, less time. As more games come out, will other game lose out? Is it the best of times and the worst of times?

    Legends of swccg! Always great to see the conversations. Thanks!

    I know that many fames have set mechanics, but Sorcery really does have very different gameplay from the others. It isn’t the first with grid play, but it is QUITE different from the other games and has a ton of unique interactions. It has a lot in common with MTG, but the board movement and interaction give the game a completely different game-feel, thought process, and strategy.
    The game is amazing. I really encourage you to try it when the next set Arthurian Legends comes out

    As someone who mostly acquires cards for playing and doesn't collect cards as an investment, I prefer systems where there are rare printings and variants of a card, foil or alternative art or whatever, but a basic version of the card is accessible for players looking to enrich their game playing experience

      That is actually probably the best way to approach it for true players. Which games do you think achieve this? So far I don't of any game that does it this way, maybe only pokemon?

    A lot of the newer games are fine/fun but they don’t do anything new or different and are dumbed down/simplified versions of other games that have been around at some point. It’s mostly pic the theme you like and there is a new game out there for you that in some shape or form is a combination of games that already exist. I do agree a lot of old games from the 90s would never get made today or if they did would be in board game/lcg form at best. Old games you really wanted to have to learn while today’s games you can figure out in 10 mins due to simplicity and the reuse of old mechanics. I’d love to see remakes of certain old games with the rules not simplified but just clarified/cleaned up a little bit.

    I’ve never felt anything like the pride I felt the day I showed Jefferson all that we had done. We sat and talked for hours, yet my words used to describe it only worked to make it all seem so small.

    There's a lot of mid games ATM. No all timers atm besides the old schoolers I think. Fab is here to stay but not my style. So sick of CCG's being skirmish based, Netrunner though outside the box but became the exception.

    • @boardmatt
      @boardmatt  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are definitely a TON of mid games out there. Quality is being sacrificed on the alter of quantity. Ultimately, selling product is the game and skirmish based games mean interaction with an opponent and those games sell, I guess.

    • @Frank-ro5bp
      @Frank-ro5bp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@boardmatt Totally agree that interaction is king. But I can't see why there's such a lack of creativity in the industry when it comes to contextualizing that interaction in a way that isn't a skirmish.

    I'm sad to hear you feel like a number instead of a name with MTG my dude. It's always been the opposite for me with ccgs (mtg especially). I've almost always gone to tournaments with friends, only a few times solo and its always better with friends. I wouldn't trade my edh playgroup for anything, I love those guys. Oh and also Thomas Jefferson.

    • @boardmatt

      :). I think it might be the result of being in a large metro area. It’s just not as personal as of experience for me. I’ll also just say that having a baby has made in-person stuff really challenging and online formats have just been easier. Regardless mtg never really clicked in a “making friends” kinda way that swccg and other games did.

    You can't really blame for magic for killing flgs because magic is what was keeping them alive. If stores are shutting down because magic players aren't coming anymore, that means it was magic keeping them alive in the first place.

    I think a lot of modern games show a much more simplified approach that are designed in a way that treats people today with kid gloves and a bit of idiocy. Besides Flesh & Blood and maybe Grand Archive the great majority of new CCGs are just too simple and designed for simple, modern minds.

      This is a response to market demand. Magic and especially Yugioh are wildly overcomplicated in their current premier and customer facing formats.
