Hi Jacky and thanks for the great vid. I'm considering Ryerson for CS and would really appreciate your comments: 1) As a commuter, do you still meet a lot of people, and have you made friends in the program even though you live at home? 2) How are the instructors over-all? 3) based on what you hear from other students and faculty, do you think a CS degree from Ryerson prepares you well for the work world and gives you a high probability of finding a good job? I'm thinking of co-op, btw. Thanks!
1) Yes, you definitely get to meet a lot of people especially during frosh week and in your classes! I have already made a lot of friends in the program and even some that are from different programs as well! Just make sure you try to talk to as many people as you can and get to know everyone!
2) The profs for CS are great! I don't have anything bad to say so far but I'm sure they can help you with anything if you ask for help!
3) I think a CS degree from Ryerson prepares us well for the work force since I have heard many Ryerson CS alumni get great jobs at big tech companies! And I am also considering co-op so it'll be definitely a great learning experience for your career!

Hi Jacky, nice video. I got accepted into Ryerson CS for fall 2019, any tips for nubs like me?
I saw in another comment you were learning python in computer science 1. I thought they used java for that class, are you taking an alternate version that they're offering? I'm thinking about trying to learn some stuff (related to the courses) before heading in.
Congrats! So for my term they changed the outline so we did Python first and then Java. Basically if you have background programming experience then you are fine! Know some Python and Java basics, however Computer Science I and II both start from the beginning. I personally think that you should learn Java if you are going to learn ahead and get familiar with the syntax. Hope this helps!

which would you recommend going to ryerson or UofT ive been told UofT is one of the best program in north america but ive heard many horro stories of people getting destroyed first years
It's honestly up to you, but go to their orientations and see which one you like better!
if you truly think you can handle UofT , go for it. It's more challenging but prepared to get depressed / stressed a whole lot more than what you're used to
At the end it all comes up to you how you process things.
You'll be glad to know that I got accepted into bsc computer science honours program for the fall of 2023. I also got an offer from Toronto metropolitan University, which is offering a co-op program of 5 years.
I like western a lot, but I am a bit skeptical for two reasons:
1.Western doesn't provide a co-op program, so will I be able to secure internships ?
2. I feel London is a bit secluded and there aren't much job options available.
So, is western comp science any better than ryreson(tmu)?
Will I get enough opportunities to grow in the field at western ?
Other than the location of ryreson(tmu) and the availability of co-op, I don't like anything about it.
Could you please guide me in making the righ decision?
Congrats! Unfortunately I can't say anything about Western since I don't go to that school, however you should research more and see what you like better

Before the pandemic, classes usually take place in other buildings too (can be any Ryerson building)!

I'm using a ASUS Zenbook ultrabook, but I've seen people with Surface Pros too! IMO any laptop is fine as long as it's fast (has an SSD) and a good processor.

My math skills are not that strong, is the Computer Science program at Ryerson math heavy?
The programming courses don't require a lot of math, but for math courses we do Discrete Math, Calc I, and Linear Algebra in the program. Mostly high school review and some new topics.

Hey! Thinking about doing this exact program at Ryerson and was wondering what marks you had in high school and ur final average? I don’t know if mine are going to be too low to get accepted. Also, do you have to do a lot of work in this program or will it take up your entire day, everyday? I’d like to have some free time in university.
The admission average has changed across the years, but my average was 85 and i have mostly 90s except science courses LOL. You have to keep up with the work but honestly it won't take you the entire day. You have to spend a few hours per week to catch up and do the assignments which aren't bad. There is definitely free time where you can go out and hang out with your friends! Hope this helps!

Hi jacky! I'm a gr 12 student that's applied to Ryerson CS and I'm curious as to if all students are required to take a science course? I never took physics in gr 11 or 12 (I had chemistry). Will that be a problem for computer science?

@@songoku3955 Yes I think you can get in with that average, and also the requirements do not require you to take any high school CS classes. First year courses are also intro to computer science so you should be fine!

Hi Im currently in high school and plan on applying to computer Science at Ryerson my current grades are English:70
Chem:76 Advanced functions:85 Healthy living: 82 and I'm taking calculus and Data management next semester are these grades acceptable and do i need physics
I am not sure about the admission requirements for this year, however I recommend taking at least one 4U science course, because you will have to take one science course in first year.
