      Don't let the looks of the original put you off on building it dude. t put me off on it and after watching this series I went and took another look at it. The guy who designed it your very right it looked baaaad and honestly the one he constructed was a dummy gun from near as I can tell. Clinton took the idea and ran with it and proved it a working design as the original design calls for slight changes here and there to get it working with real ammo.
      I just assumed he created a non-firing prototype and Clinton made an actual firing prototype and provided us all with proof of concept. Clinton's advancement on this particular gun is miles ahead of the original but like all decent designed firearms they all had to start somewhere. What Clinton has done here is something truly exceptional because he gave us a much better looking base design to work from so any new ideas incorporated will only serve to further advance the design.
      Mine right now is halfway there. I am not ashamed to say it was a second attempt as I tried to speed through it and to get a gun that both looks good and works and fires more than one shot takes a lot of patience and time. Some things I thought I got built "good enough" ended in total disaster as trying to speed through caused me to produce a frame that was off center and warped, deep tool marks and unmatching proportions of parts that were meant to be identical. The only thing salvageable in the original was all the fire control pack and trigger and that was simply due to them not being formed all the way. I have now moved onto a method of grinding down most of the material and then shaping to match with hand files. This works well for me as it allows me to fine tune parts during the building phase and also leaves me able to think about what I want to do and what I want to change to make the gun perform better and look better. I have also since went to using car steel (axles leaf springs etc etc) to build a lot of the gun so it lasts and does not run into parts needing to be remade due to it being made from a lower grade steel. If it is a part susceptible to high pressure or wear it gets made from car steel if not it is made from mild steel.
      Again don't let the design put you off as the design is sound and is actually a pretty smart design and pretty well thought out and will actually surprise you while making it of how decent of a design it is. Much like most of professor parabellum's designs what they lack in beauty they make up for in the design. You just got to barrel through it and make sure your family knows you will be using a lot of your spare time to build it. I started mine telling my wife I would like to work on making a working pistol she understands it is a hobby I like to do and the more I build the better they get and she supports my efforts all the way and will even let me know if I am rushing things a bit. Yeah I got a great big I told you so when it didn't come out good the first time and yes she did in fact try to stop me from speeding through it.
      Also a couple of tips in my building I noticed a couple areas that could be made from aluminum to help the pistol drop more weight like the outer portion of the fire control pack, trigger (if you have 1/4 thick aluminum), trigger bar, magazine floor plate but that is all I was comfortable making from aluminum and just make sure if making the trigger bar from aluminum the contact surface of the bar and the sear is perfect and polished and smooth as they are two different metals and if not done that way the steel sear will cause the trigger bar to grind itself down. The inserts I used 1/8 inch aluminum which is close to the original ones.
      Good Luck on your build hope to see it soon.

    Very nice work. Is it possible to do a double stack magazine or is there some pain-in-the-ass-process that hinders that?

    • @larrywhalen596
      @larrywhalen596 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the best solution would be to make an extended mag to increase its capacity to 10 rds. this way an extension for the 'ring' finger could be included at the same time.
      A double stack would require increasing the width of the grip and probably the frame as well, doable, but why reinvent the gun when there is an easier solution?
      I've been searching for two or three mags for my FIE Àwith no success and the ones that are available are simply priced too high so my option is to make my own.
      Just for info I already have a form which I made from a section of stainless steel and looks more than viable and will be capable of holding seven rounds.
      Hopefully Numrich Arms will have the stings I need or worse case scenario I will cannibalize a couple of mags for an AR-7 I no longer have.

    Hello I am at this stag in building the same pistol. Is there any reason you curved the front of the magazine? The templates seem to make it seem as if they are simply folded along the lines to for a square box magazine. Was this solely for cosmetic reasons?

    • @clintonwestwood5498
      @clintonwestwood5498  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was a choice I made that fit the profile of the round better. It was just as easy to form it that way as making it square.

      +leon luis kevin sa brum petsch The follower is wider than the feed lips. It can't escape. It has to be inserted from the bottom.

    • @leonluiskevinsabrumpetsch8602
      @leonluiskevinsabrumpetsch8602 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Clinton Westwood that is right xD, thank you. i havent noticed that the feeding lips were slightly bent at the video. thank you. know i just need to know how to get the bullets xD. if you know how to make your own, id apreciate some tips
      i heard that you can use blackpowder and toy gun caps to make them

    • @MacCaskill
      @MacCaskill 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the magazine lips were not bent inward, there would be nothing to prevent all the ammunition simply flying out the top. Anyone with more than comic book knowledge of firearms should know this. If that is your level of firearms knowledge, the prospects for making your own are virtually hopeless.
      A blackpowder automatic would function for very few shots before powder fouling would jam the action, which is why automatic weapons weren't practical till the invention of smokeless powders. Why do you not have access to loaded cartridges? Are you in prison?
      If you are planning to make your own black powder? It's not as simple as just mixing three powdered materials together. My advice is to forget it and take up archery or learn to throw stones with a sling.
      "Bullets" are the projectiles. You want "cartridges", which are made up of the cartridge case (or 'shell'), powder charge, bullet and primer.
      Making cartridges from scratch, will require a lathe to turn individula cases from brass (or perhaps aluminum) bar stock. This is not how it is done commercially but an individual who can't get cartridges can't begin to imagine affording the equipment to form commercial-style cases. Did you plan to make a mold to cast your own bullets?
      I won't say you're facing an impossible task because with sufficient knowledge and just hand tools, some amazing things have been done.
      But given your obvious lack of knowledge of the subject, to be as optomistic as possible, I would say you are years away from creating even a single-shot blackpowder firearm.

      I have't made a 9mm magazine yet. I did successfully build a .380. My suggestion would be to lay out a steel mandrel that comfortably contains the dimensions of the round you are working on. Then wrap your sheet metal around that. I have another video on my channel with more details.

      You are looking at a 'few' dollars max for the amount of material to build a pistol this size.
      The only way of spending more money than you normally would is to buy the trigger and hammer, etc for a gun manufactured by a gun company from an online source or someone on the internet, like I do so I don't have to waste time making them myself.
      Relocating the pivot points is an easy process since you are the manufacturer.
