Thanks Neil for the kind words. I had a lot of fun researching and creating this jerseys. Most of the jersey took inspiration from the originals and combined with what is in the NHL today. Watching this video made me realize I designed three logos (primary, secondary and wordmark) for each team which didn’t occur to me at the time I was designing them. All the logos are designed by me with inspiration and influence from multiple sources. 1. Quebec Bulldogs - used the classic blue from the original team. Used a simplified primary bulldog logo with a bit of toughness, secondary logo (Shoulder) is a dog collar with a fleur-de-lis tag. 2. Philadelphia Quakers - tried to stay away from the Quaker Oats look. Updated the colours for the original jersey to more a modern palette. The shoulder patch incorporates the LOVE statue and 13 quaker stars in honour of the 1776 US flag. 3. Montreal Maroons - Pretty much just an update to the original jersey. 4. Kansas City Scouts - updated logo to avoid any controversy by using a horse. The shoulder patch is a variation on the KC government logo. 5. Hamilton Tigers - Used the classic jersey colours but rather than having black and yellow bee stripes, I added the stripes on the collar and elbows. 6. Cleveland Barons - The primary logo was designed with a retro feel, think 70’s, and it was one of the more difficult logos to come up with, especially the secondary logo. There are lots of way to go with Barons but I went with he fancy gentleman look than might get in a tussle ever once in a while. 7. New York Americans - Incorporated the NYA into the shield main logo. The secondary logo(shoulder) has three jets with red, white and blue smoke with a silhouette of the Statue of Liberty on a red and white field. The 5 stars represent the 5 boroughs of New York. 8. Golden Seals of California - This is the jersey that started all these concepts. Updated the classic colours of the Seals as well as a modern take on the Seals logo. 9. St. Louis Eagles - For the main logo, I used the Gateway and the river icons to encapsulate the eagle into one logo and used the fleur-de-lis from the city flag on the shoulder 10. Pittsburgh Pirates - Created a simplified and modern pirate logo and replaced the bones in the Jolly Roger with hockey sticks. As for the strips on the left sleeve, they signify Captain similar to Navy Captain braid.
For your question about that little bit on the Pirates jersey on the left sleeve is the captain's braid, usually seen when a captain is wearing a dress uniform (think Captain Smith on the Titanic)
its there instead of a traditional captain's "c" presumably the alternate captains would have 3 stripes with the executive curl. Unfortunately the "C" would still have to be there by NHL rules even if the braid is more appropriate and unique.
you are correct, this is royal navy captain's insignia, but to be proper, it would need to be on BOTH sleeves. ALSO, since this would be on an American team's sweater, it should display a STAR at the top of the braid, proper for USN officers' insignia
This was a fun concept to look at. Bulldogs was one of my favorite. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Eagles one. I think the Barons shoulder logo would be better as the main crest.
California Golden Seals and St Louis Eagles were my favourites..I liked the overall design elements in the Eagles jersey like the arch logo and feathered texture in the striping.

Small note on the Maroon's jersey. The way the template is designed the shoulders slouch because it's not being warn so the sleeves are lower. If someone were to wear the jersey the middle stripes would line up perfectly. Great attention to detail by the designer.
That's not the way it works in real life though. Look any basically any photo of the Canadiens, Wild or Panthers home jersey during a game and they don't line up.
Hope scott sends you some more defunct team redesigns, there's still the Atlanta Flames and Thrashers / Colorado Rockies / Hartford Whalers / Minnesota North Stars / Montreal Wanderers / Quebec Nordiques and maybe he could include the Detroit Falcons and Cougars as well. My top 3 favourites of these are the Hamilton Tigers / Kansas City Scouts / California Golden Seals.

My ranking from favourite to least: 1. Cleveland Barons 2. Pittsburgh Pirates 3. Philadelphia Quakers 4. Quebec Bulldogs 5. Hamilton Tigers 6. Golden Seals of California (this surprised me. I generally HATE metallics on jerseys, but the gold works here. My only complaint is that there's too much of it. Lose the shoulder yokes and I would like this a lot more). 7. Montreal Maroons 8. Kansas City Scouts 9. New York Americans 10. St. Louis Eagles (the texture on the sleeves and in the logo ruined this for me. Texture never works for me on any concept)
the NY Americans jersey would be a good concept for the Rochester Americans too or even the Rangers I could see them rocking these in an outdoor game. good job Scott on all the concepts, happy Canada Day to my fellow countrypeoples
