I don’t think we’ll ever see another drummer capable of doing what Virgil does. He’s up there with Buddy Rich in terms of being a complete one-off. It’s amazing watching a lifetimes effort and dedication to being the absolute best possible musician.
I'LL TRY (LOL) BUT YEP YOU'RE RIGHT. I'M SOLELY IMPRESSED WITH HIS TOTAL COMPLETE COMMITMENT DEDICATION TO THE INSTRUMENT. THE VIDEO VIRGIL LIVE IN STOCKHOLM TAKES THE WHOLE CAKE IT SUMS IT UP
I've always loved VD but my favourites list has grown to include a few other names; Dave Weckl (master of dynamics), Matt Garstka (serves and pushes music), Marco Minnemann (can do anything on kit), Dali Mraz (the new Buddy Rich for me), Dennis Chambers (king of fusion drumming) and Travis Orbin (ambidextrous monster).
I agree. I think it is the Monk - Like approach Virgil displayed early on in his career when it came to training. I watched "Enter the Dragon" the other day and Bruce Lee reminded me of Virgil in regards to self discipline and training.
Musical expression is the most important part. You can have the greatest sets of technical skills, and book knowledge of theory, but if you can't take that to the kit and express yourself musically, it's a wasted effort.
@@TheJollyMisanthrope Absolutely true. "The hardest thing to do is to Express yourself. Take water for instance, it can fill a teacup or a teapot. Be like water my friend". Bruce Lee.
Love you Virgil you're my favorite artist of all time. Every note, from your 32nd's, to your whole notes, and hell even your rests, I feel the purpose behind and see the love you have for them . Each note brother. Thanks for all you do for the music , the drums , and in turn the human race. You give us so much hope in such a watered down plastic society...so much hope for the future . Thank you Virgil! John from Buffalo.
Virgil is the treatment of monotonous strictly commercial music. His extremely creative moves perhaps could one day transform the world in the wider range.
Virgil, this is my favorite tune on Ruination. It is absolutely stellar!!! So progressive and so melodic that it transcends the boundaries of musical composition. It is so challenging to figure out your time signatures. If the Infinity Stones were real, you would most definitely be in possession of the time stone. No doubt. 🕒🕜🕚🕣
fantastic Virgil ! probably the last ''moicano'' about this 'fusion' music , where Allan was the indiscutible king and master. Excellent job , also from the rest of the band: always i liked Alex Argento , very original musician. This beatyful track remaind me the ''Atavachron' atmosphere . Probably Donati had his best moment exactly with Allan union. Really , very good, very very good!
When I listen to this and other incredible music of today I feel so lucky to be alive right now... it is maybe one of the few areas where humans aren’t ruining things.
Oh, here they are again and again, discussion after discussion, argue and dispute.....about WHO IS THE BEST, about technique, feel, groove, pocket, mathematics and WHO IS THE BEST........ Is it Vergil, Buddy, Vinnie, Dave, Marco, Dennis, Aaron, Eric, etc. etc. pp........I would say they are ALL the BEST in what they are doing......
Except for Virgil who is just a smidge better than everyone else. Hell, he plays like this AND writes most of the stuff in all of the bands he is in. Insane, since mist drummers can't even read notes.

Yup! They are all the best at what THEY do. No single drummer is best at every aspect of drumming, so there really is no best per se...although no one ever born has been better than Virgil. LOL
so, that's a 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a um, oh, that's a 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a 5,6,7,8 oh, um, so that's a 1 and ae and a 2 and e and a 3, oh lets just play
All the clocks in my house just stopped working after hearing this.
That was a great comment!! I agree 100%
Why did they stop working ?
It’s been a while since a comment got me like this one. Thanks!
@@raphaelzombie2 They were jealous because Virgil could keep time better.
Do your clocks have ears ???

Whoever gave that thumbs down just won moron of the year from me!
Great job, Virg! As always!
Benny Kee Must be 2 gospel drummers!! They can only play in & understand 4/4!!
It’s inhuman and unreal how much Virgil just never seems to slow down
He’s literally like fine aged wine, gets even more better with the years
Only Virgil can play something very complex but tasteful and lovely. One of the greatest musicians of all time no doubt !
Greatest technical drummer, ever.
The thing I love about Virgil is that no matter how technical he plays, it's always musical and not mechanical sounding.
Not only is the music phenomenal, but so is the camera work and lighting, too - nicely done!!

John from Buffalo.
I love you Virgil.
An artist of unprecedented level, who opens new paths for others, so many qualities condensed in his music, it is astonishing and mind-blowing.
Virgil is to drums what allan holdsworth was to guitar
Holdsworth could be who composed that harmonies, any doubt!
best comment !!!!
Good comparison. To me, Virgil is #1!
Remember, Virgil is an accomplished pianist.
Also guthrie govan , somewhere there :)) and mike portnoy..
The playing at 4:29 is insane.. there is a feeling there that is hard to describe... only Virgil conveys that feeling through his playing.
More that same kind of texture at 4:51.
This video is critically under-viewed. One of the greatest at anything, ever.
Forget the otherworldly playing, this piece is just so beautiful! Thanks Virgil.
Beyond awesome, beyond perfect, always a joy see you play, great song, one of my favorites of Ruination.
There's no other word even close to describing what I just witnessed than simply....phenomenal.
real cool to see donati play straight forward for 7 seconds in this video ..didn’t think he played simple stuff..amazing drummer
Well done Virgil, world class mate.... world class.
Absolute inspiration for any drummer. He has achieved what we humans dream of
His performance is a pure expression of artistic beauty.
Breathtakingly incredible. Drumming perfection 👌🏼
Beautiful Virgil. Just beautiful
Virgil Still and always evolving 👍
BEAUTIFUL and flawless as always. Well done!!!
How about a crowdfund for a Blu-ray play-through of Ruination??
I'd definitely support it.
Me too!!

“I’ve seen attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion”
che brano incredibile..e poi marco sfogli un grandee che suono incredibile e che fraseggio.. tutti mostri ma con immenso gusto!
Your dedication so appreciated Virgil Thank you keep doing what you are doing . :)
Such a powerful performance, beast mode.

Beautiful.
It is clear that there are only a few commentators who can grasp how incredible this performance really is, on all levels.
Amazing playing!
absolutely killer
Absolutely amazing!!!!!!
I like Virgil Donati! Amazing dexterity combined with relaxed attitude and great articulation!!!
Great piece and I also love the entire album, especially the "bold" mix. Marco and Alex are also the best!!!
What a gift, just mind blowing
Brilliant, beautiful.
THANK YOU VIRGIL!!!!!
Incredible How the song reflects the title. Amazing, Virg.🥁🌟
When I listen to this and other incredible music of today I feel so lucky to be alive right now... it is maybe one of the few areas where humans aren’t ruining things.

Excellent snare sound, as usual.
This is beyond next level. Its unbelievable.
I feel like this dude writes song parts organically, just lets all senses take over and flow how they will. Groove would be a massive understatement.
WAAAAAAA QUE GENIAL!!!! Muy sutil, suena tremendoo. Virgil sos un genio hermano!! Hermoso tema. Una banda de lujo! GRACIAS!!!
Un saludo desde argentina!!!!
incredible.
Just bought this record. It's awesome.

Amazing is all the word I have. VD is a phenomenon.

It’s in 3/4 sounds like. But it’s hard to believe, especially in the beginning!
Awesome.
Unthinkable.
