I think my favorite bit of lore for Doom (2016) is that it's the same Space Marine from the original Doom and Doom 2. Man is so angry he travels the multiverse to kill demons.
@GeoTheZodiac While you're not entirely correct, the Doom Marine from Doom 1, 2, 64 and Final Doom is the exact same person as the Doom Slayer in the reboot. The Marine in Doom 3 is a completely different guy in a completely seperate universe/continuity
I genuinely had no clue that Doom had any lore to it at all aside from some contrived plot about scientists opening gates to Hell... but this? This was epic and I'm so glad you, Lady of Lore, led our way through this tale.
i love how they use a "handheld" BFG as a glorified fuse box and control console for the BFG 10K, and the slayer just pulls it out when he's done with the pod
Yeah he makes a backup of VEGA onto an external drive of sorts, I guess he figured VEGA was the only one not telling what to do, just how to do haha (at least thats always been my head canon)

DOOM having such rich lore is, without a doubt, one of my favorite aspects of Nu DOOM and I just can't wait for the sequel after Eternal. For lore junkies (like me), I *really* enjoyed piecing all of it together in the "quiet" times between arenas 🔥🔥🔥
The best part of that final byplay between the Dark Lord and the Slayer is that the Slayer doesn't speak, until AFTER he's dealt a fatal blow. He had nothing to say BEFORE killing the Dark Lord.
I’m old enough now to realize that DOOM Eternal closes out with a bang in The Ancient Gods part 2. And if ID were to cap off the series with The Ancient Gods. Then it’s the best way to end the series. DOOMGuy’s story is at a natural conclusion, and all things eventually must end. I have hope for all future, new ID software games.
Hugo has already stated in his Eternal playthrough that Slayers time isn't over yet. Apparently he intends to take the series down a more lovecraftian path now and Slayer will apparently be battling beings even more powerful than Davoth. The most likely true meaning of the end of TAG2 is Slayer absorbed Davoth power and passed out from the amount. Keep in mind Davoth and slayer both absorbed the power of the beings they defeated
I honestly thought Doomguy was God gone mad, fighting in madness against his own creations, fighting against his darker half. Having beaten it, becomes like "The Idiot God" in the H.P. Lovecraft mythos. If to awaken again, can mean doom for all for he may not remember the dream.
I'd love it if you did a sort of opinion piece at the end of a series. Nothing to effort intensive of course but a way to sort of engage or connect with you as a creator. Small antidotes on how making this felt or your thoughts on the game in a script-less format.
If Doom ever gets turned onto a live-action series by Paramount, The Slayer will finally achieve what every beefy FPS antagonist seeks - To fuck. Duke Nukem doesnt count, he puts it in everything
It's crazy how much story they packed into an action game about killing demons. I like both fantasy and sci-fi, but don't usually like their combination. Star Wars is the obvious exception. Still, this was neat to listen to. But the best part is that the Slayer doesn't care. Why couldn't the Slayer just crush the Dark Lord sphere like he did with the Father?
Honestly, I think Samuel didn't know exactly where the Slayer was, and the invite to find him was actually what he was hoping for by letting humanity spiral out of control. "Finding the Slayer is worth the risk." Doomguy is straight up a Mcguffin when it comes to anything involving hell and demons, and was completely the linchpin for any plan to destroy hell. The man "too angry to die" was his only hope in the long term.
That intern is the real mvp, he probably watched the slayer absolutely violate hell and understood the assignment
