This is a re-edit of an older video I posted a couple of months ago that was age restricted to 18+. This version now follows the strict community guidelines. I loved putting this video together initially and dislike that I have had to repost it with some more friendly visuals. The older version is still available if you are 18+. I have so many amazing topics I'm eager to explore over the next few months. Next week, we take a deeper dive into the Resonance Cascade in Half-Life. What did you think of Samuel Hayden during your playthrough of the series?
Imagine being an ancient, hyper-intelligent being trying to enact a master plan that has been in the works for centuries, involving the careful guidance of the scientific evolution of an entire planet, and you end up having to rely on an unstoppable, uncontrollable lunatic whose approach to literally everything is to smash it to pieces, tear it apart, or blow it up.
Samuel Hayden actually a being a Makyr in human form does make sense though because in Doom 2016's codex entries, its stated that he was a born genius in all fields related to science. In fact, he also recovered VEGA(which was actually the Father) from a secret location on Mars before the events of Doom 2016. Also he designed and developed alot of the tech we saw in Doom 2016's UAC Mars Base. Its most likely Samur Makyr during his transformation into Samuel Hayden, reverted back to his original Makyr programming as designed by Davoth i.e: to research, design and develop new technologies to solve a particular problem.
It's worth noting that all of the in game lore we have access to is suspicious. As in, there is no absolute outside source provided to us. So it is equally likely that Davoth was in fact not a threat, and was usurped by his power hungry creations. Or perhaps he planned to eliminate them, and they acted first
100% agree with this. In this case though, I'd agree with Davoth just because during the fight with him, The Father does confirm that Davoth's version was correct.
Yes, their could be bias at any level of the narrative. It doesnt hurt at the meta level money can retcon his motives to sell more games, the ultimate hell energy
@@LZRCuteR Typically I cringe at this kind of stuff, but ID did it so well I don't mind. The retcons were mostly consistent and tasteful. Anyway, I'd be perfectly fine with them continuing the story in some way. There's a lot we don't know about the bigger picture and Hell probably isn't truly sealed. I could see a HL2 kind of progression where like Zen, the death of Davoth allows something to come through from another dimension into Hell. Something worse
I think Hayden did become human in a sense. His decisions and how he reacted to events prior to his tranfiguration were more emotional than anything. But that's when he stopped caring about humanity that the Marine burned bridges with him. As tragic as his end was, I feel like he should've returned in Part 2 to give closure to his arc. Maybe endorsing the Slayer's actions _"because there is no choice"_ at this point. We know that he's still around, but he's pretty much lost his mind at this point.
The "lore" was written by little children, seemingly. Which is sad, they sold us a "universe" and all we got was a very contrived and discombobulated lore that makes no sense and contradicts itself constantly.
@@jojolafrite90 Entirely subjective. And as a 40k fan, I can safely say that no matter how convoluted and contrived lore can be, it doesn't necessarilly impact quality. Plus, if you don't like the lore and are just here for gameplay, feel free to skip it. :/
Even when his consciousness was transferred to a bipedal robot he still kept a sense of wisdom. I remember that holograph tape that played in Doom 2016 when he was addressing Olivia Pierce for delving to deep in the Occult.
@@jojolafrite90 have you paid attention modern politics lately. It's literally a doom plot. You got red and blue to fighting when they are used pawns by public evil forces and one that's hidden but people are aware of the evil taking place.

IDK if everyone agrees but at least in my personal opinion, I liked Samuel Hayden and he was one of my favorite characters, I couldn't believe what I saw when I played The Ancient Gods and saw that we later fought against him, although Samuel or Samur He was not a saint nor did I consider him a villain, and it saddened me that in the end we were against him
Its weird the hierarchy of the doom universe. You have extremely powerful beings created by gods of this universe, then you have the wraith, beings that are seemingly more advanced and even beyond the understanding of the makers and they just came about from seemingly nowhere. Perhaps they come from a dimension beyond even Davoths creation. No reason they can't amend the story to him being just a subject of a greater power.
That's what makes the lore so intriguing. I think that it's pretty clear Davoth wasn't the supreme being. He is the demiurge. Something created him to create the material realm. There's plenty of evidence; the Wraith, who as you pointed out seem to be a mystery even to the Maykrs. The world spear, which the intern tellingly remarks is giving off readings even _Urdak_ couldn't rival. Also, the ancient gods. They look like Seraphim, and yet Seraphim are said to be "bound to the Father's will". Okay, so why do we see some of them at Immora, at least tacitly approving what Davoth is doing? I think that Davoth, Urdak, the Maykrs, etc. are a crude, technological copy of a true higher realm. This is in line with Gnostic belief systems (proto-Christianity) which the writers of DOOM's lore were clearly using as inspiration
@@jakeg3733 I'm still catching up from like 2020ish, I think that was before the latest expansion of the lore, Davoth or the Wraith weren't even a whisper yet. The "Icon of Sin" was the last stop on that journey if I recall. It is all very intriguing so far, I think it's apparent that there are more advanced powers out there. I think they will awaken to warn of the approach of a new and much greater enemy that they were evolving Urdak warriors for to fight for them.

There's always something worse out there and since Doom/Quake are probably in the same continuity that's what I'm thinking is coming next. Hell, being connected to almost every other world, is like an airport terminal and now that it has been neutered other nasty things could use it as a beachhead, in theory. It's like the Combine invading after Xen has been dealt with in Half-life The Wraiths were actually shown in Doom 2016. We got a few data logs and if you remember, we had to put 3 of them down to close the well. And while they weren't super fleshed out yet it was implied that they were incredibly powerful primordial beings that could power entire civilizations. Just 3 kept the Sentinels going for who knows how long. Davoth however wasn't named until TAG1, prior to that it was just the mysterious Dark Lord There's a ton of good lore and possibilities still left in this universe and I'm excited to see what they come up with next. I'm betting we'll get some hints about a real higher power along with some more details on the greater cosmology of the world they built

I got into playing DOOM around 2020. Played DOOM 2016 for the first time and was hooked, then found out Eternal das about to drop?? Bro, I was hyped. I never knew there was so much depth to the lore behind the story even in 2016. I always just thought the wraiths were some elder demon that died and were being utilized for their power. I would’ve never guessed the truth was so much deeper.

Yo I know that I might sounds stupid but the only dumb question is the one unasked. So if the doom slayer was made using the power of the maker. Then using argent energy for super soldiers was theoretically possible. Not say that there would be more doom slayers just wondering if a weaker version was possible to make? I mean teleportation, energy conversion, dimensional transportation, was achieved so clunky super bois should have been an option, right?
Not exactly. The Sentinels are about as OP as one could make mortals. The Slayer was different, because he was actually gifted with a piece of Davoth (aka God) himself. That's what powered the divinity machine, and it's implied that the only reason he survived this process was bottomless rage. So unless there are more shards of Davoth lying around, Doomguy is the apex predator of this universe As for empowering mortals with Argent, bad idea. Initially it works. But it also has a corrupting influence over time. The Sentinels found this out the hard way. It is the longer path to being subverted by Hell but the end result will be the same, Hell owns your ass
@@josephsmith3976 That's the worst part about Hell. Even knowing of it's existence means the eventual downfall of your world. Could be in 10 years, could be 10,000 but the only way to avoid that fate is to have zero contact with those assholes
I think this is explainable that they SHOULD have written in for the lore on samuel hayden: That Samuel was approached by the seraphim on his deathbed and offered a deal in exchange for the technology required to build his idealized robotic body and cheat death, he had to use his skill and technical knowhow to create a vessel for Samur Maykr and assist him in his plot to restore the father to the throne of the maykrs and remove the corruption from urdak. But Samuel, now blessed with virtual immortality, grew greedy. And trapped Samur Makyrs essense inside his own robotic body, using Samur's essense to power himself for eternity. Then when Samuel capitalized on selling argent energy to earth & eventually aquired the crucible from the slayer. Of course he obtained wealth beyond anyones wildest dreams during this time. But i think the transition from samuel to samur would have happened when he was damaged in the UACs last stand for earth, when the mechs and soldiers Samuel had assembled to fight the forces of hell he knew were coming for earth failed, and he was brutally injured. This injured state allowed the slow release of Samurs essense from inside the power core of Samuels body. And when the doom slayer transferred Samuel to his doom fortress, samur's soul came with him, corrupting and assuming control of Samuels mind, taking his vast technical knowledge for himself as their two souls intermingled in the doom fortress. Ultimately Samur would dominate, assimilating Samuels knowledge. The doom slayer would not learn of this until samur makyr reveals himself to have been "Samuel hayden" for the duration of the second half of Doom eternal. I think this makes the most sense & anyone if you have any ideas please feel free to expand!
I do like how the Satan himself (Dark Lord) kinda got pissed off so much at the Father (God) for betraying him and succeding him that he unleashed hell on all of his previous creations to prove he is the one true leader of everything that exists
In my opinion, he is right... But also not, just because you created something it doesn't give you the right to destroy it. Perhaps the Father has foreseen this would happen eventually whether or not he succeeded him and that's why doomguy was basically created, to put an end to senseless slaughter and end hell's way of life (death and combat)

I am mad we didn’t get to kill him, all those deaths on earth are directly his fault, if he just let the slayer free then it just wouldn’t have happend to such an extend, or he could’ve talked to the slayer, I mean he isn’t dumb, he wants humanity to be safe aswell, I am sure he would have been fine with accepting this for a bit, if Samuel explained that the threat is still there, Samuel is the villain in this story, even tho he may claim orherwise, if he was a bit more cooperative with the slayer in the tether Szene in Doom2016 then way way way less humans would have died, if he just talked to the slayer transparently humanity and himself would be fine still
He did all good but went about it in the wrong way. He knew the slayer only wanted to slaughter anything and everything that's evil, i don't know why he expected paid back👀 the slayer would even slaughter god himself due to all the rage.
Gotta say, I really dislike what they did to Hayden in Eternal. I loved the charming but scummy douchebag type thing they were going for in 2016. Turning him into the Seraphim in Eternal was a massive waste imho.

I love how humanity had mastered system space travel and colonization, literally terraformed Mars to have a breathable atmosphere _(which is pretty much physically impossible. There's a reason Mars atmosphere is mainly CO2. Because it's denser than air. But even at it's most dense, ground level it's slightly thinner than the air at the peak of Mt Everest. Then there's the planetary magnetic field issue)_ able to travel to and harness power from another dimension. And no doubt, has many other advanced technologies compared to real life. But still weren't able to to discover a way to harness the power of the greatest source of energy in the entire solar system. The Sun. It couldn't have been that serious of an energy crisis. If you can Terraform a planet in a few decades, especially Mars. Than harnessing Solar energy should be child's play.
I think they took the lore too far. Samuel Hayden was a much cooler character and made way more sense before they tried to retcon him into a Seraphim. The same goes for VEGA being the Father. I feel like they just didn't know what to do with these characters so they put them in roles that didn't make sense
I only just started playing doom eternal after my girlfriend convinced me to play it and its not bad...but its nothing like the og doom in my opinion kinda turned into a run and jump sim where as the og doom lets you stand in one spot and mow demons down but i guess it makes more sense considering that tech has advanced i mean im sure og doom would have had it if they could have lol new doom is missing that fear of the flashing light and a dark hallway though its more of a hack and slash shoot and blast type game now.

Yeah but in doing so he made the same mistakes as the Khan Makyr. They both thought they could use Hell's resources to help solve problems.
I'm curious why Samuel allowed the production of Argent Energy on Earth, knowing full well what it was and what it would do.

@@Skyrionn I've played DOOM 1-3 in VR, Quake 1-2, Half-Life 1-2. No problems with movement. It feels great.

Yo I know that I might sounds stupid but the only dumb question is the one unasked. So if the doom slayer was made using the power of the maker. Then using argent energy for super soldiers was theoretically possible. Not say that there would be more doom slayers just wondering if a weaker version was possible to make? I mean teleportation, energy conversion, dimensional transportation, was achieved so clunky super bois should have been an option, right?
Not exactly. The Sentinels are about as OP as one could make mortals. The Slayer was different, because he was actually gifted with a piece of Davoth (aka God) himself. That's what powered the divinity machine, and it's implied that the only reason he survived this process was bottomless rage. So unless there are more shards of Davoth lying around, Doomguy is the apex predator of this universe
As for empowering mortals with Argent, bad idea. Initially it works. But it also has a corrupting influence over time. The Sentinels found this out the hard way. It is the longer path to being subverted by Hell but the end result will be the same, Hell owns your ass

I think this is explainable that they SHOULD have written in for the lore on samuel hayden:
That Samuel was approached by the seraphim on his deathbed and offered a deal in exchange for the technology required to build his idealized robotic body and cheat death, he had to use his skill and technical knowhow to create a vessel for Samur Maykr and assist him in his plot to restore the father to the throne of the maykrs and remove the corruption from urdak.
But Samuel, now blessed with virtual immortality, grew greedy. And trapped Samur Makyrs essense inside his own robotic body, using Samur's essense to power himself for eternity. Then when Samuel capitalized on selling argent energy to earth & eventually aquired the crucible from the slayer. Of course he obtained wealth beyond anyones wildest dreams during this time.
But i think the transition from samuel to samur would have happened when he was damaged in the UACs last stand for earth, when the mechs and soldiers Samuel had assembled to fight the forces of hell he knew were coming for earth failed, and he was brutally injured.
This injured state allowed the slow release of Samurs essense from inside the power core of Samuels body. And when the doom slayer transferred Samuel to his doom fortress, samur's soul came with him, corrupting and assuming control of Samuels mind, taking his vast technical knowledge for himself as their two souls intermingled in the doom fortress.
Ultimately Samur would dominate, assimilating Samuels knowledge. The doom slayer would not learn of this until samur makyr reveals himself to have been "Samuel hayden" for the duration of the second half of Doom eternal.
I think this makes the most sense & anyone if you have any ideas please feel free to expand!

I do like how the Satan himself (Dark Lord) kinda got pissed off so much at the Father (God) for betraying him and succeding him that he unleashed hell on all of his previous creations to prove he is the one true leader of everything that exists
In my opinion, he is right... But also not, just because you created something it doesn't give you the right to destroy it. Perhaps the Father has foreseen this would happen eventually whether or not he succeeded him and that's why doomguy was basically created, to put an end to senseless slaughter and end hell's way of life (death and combat)

I am mad we didn’t get to kill him, all those deaths on earth are directly his fault, if he just let the slayer free then it just wouldn’t have happend to such an extend, or he could’ve talked to the slayer, I mean he isn’t dumb, he wants humanity to be safe aswell, I am sure he would have been fine with accepting this for a bit, if Samuel explained that the threat is still there, Samuel is the villain in this story, even tho he may claim orherwise, if he was a bit more cooperative with the slayer in the tether Szene in Doom2016 then way way way less humans would have died, if he just talked to the slayer transparently humanity and himself would be fine still

He did all good but went about it in the wrong way. He knew the slayer only wanted to slaughter anything and everything that's evil, i don't know why he expected paid back👀 the slayer would even slaughter god himself due to all the rage.
Gotta say, I really dislike what they did to Hayden in Eternal. I loved the charming but scummy douchebag type thing they were going for in 2016. Turning him into the Seraphim in Eternal was a massive waste imho.

I love how humanity had mastered system space travel and colonization, literally terraformed Mars to have a breathable atmosphere _(which is pretty much physically impossible. There's a reason Mars atmosphere is mainly CO2. Because it's denser than air. But even at it's most dense, ground level it's slightly thinner than the air at the peak of Mt Everest. Then there's the planetary magnetic field issue)_ able to travel to and harness power from another dimension. And no doubt, has many other advanced technologies compared to real life.
But still weren't able to to discover a way to harness the power of the greatest source of energy in the entire solar system. The Sun. It couldn't have been that serious of an energy crisis. If you can Terraform a planet in a few decades, especially Mars. Than harnessing Solar energy should be child's play.

I think they took the lore too far. Samuel Hayden was a much cooler character and made way more sense before they tried to retcon him into a Seraphim. The same goes for VEGA being the Father. I feel like they just didn't know what to do with these characters so they put them in roles that didn't make sense

I only just started playing doom eternal after my girlfriend convinced me to play it and its not bad...but its nothing like the og doom in my opinion kinda turned into a run and jump sim where as the og doom lets you stand in one spot and mow demons down but i guess it makes more sense considering that tech has advanced i mean im sure og doom would have had it if they could have lol new doom is missing that fear of the flashing light and a dark hallway though its more of a hack and slash shoot and blast type game now.
If you think the plot of doom eternal is dumb then you haven't paid attention to modern politics.
