I am pretty sure this is the first video of yours I have seen, in the first almost three minutes I was happy with the quality of the content.... and then music started... Gojira.. I nearly tripped running to the comments to tell you that made me instantly subscribe.
Haha hell yeah and thanks for the sub! I've been wondering if anyone would notice Gojira in a video and you're the first! They're my favorite metal band and I try to cut in parts of their songs from time to time where I think it will work. This is a bit of fun editing I wanted to continue to do!
Outstanding video and presentation! Your ballasting technique is top tier, don't think I have seen a better ballast job on any video! Thanks for sharing, was very impressed, subbed and look forward to following your adventures.
Also, I would maybe include “HO Model Layout” or etc in the title or so, it really helps with the TH-cam algorithm. You can see that data as well in the TH-cam Studio “trends” tab. Cheers!
@ no worries! The algorithm sure is hit or miss. The TH-cam Studio has some neat data. Creating shorts are a must too, they are really handing out lots of views on shorts to compete with similar vertical videos on TikTok. Great videos, keep it up! 👏
Great result- I like using the ARM ballast as well. Unlike some other ballasts on the market, as actual stone it doesn’t float around and move when gluing. Nice looking layout and hope to see more of it!
Thanks! And yeah ARM is great. I've used Woodland Scenics ballast in the past and I wasn't too thrilled with it. Most of their products are good but not keen on their ballast.
The track and ballast look great. You mentioned the glue is a 50/50 mixture of matte medium and water. How much isopropyl alcohol do you add to the mix? Thanks
Good question, I should have mentioned how much! I add just a splash of isopropyl alcohol, about a tablespoon. The amount will vary depending on container size but basically you don't need very much.

Great Video and Awesome Work. Do you prepare your rails and ties before weathering them and do you have any problems with the powders adhering ?? Thank You
I don't prepare them, I just spray the rails once I'm happy with how the track is laid. Once that dries I go right into painting the ties. For using the weathering powders, I didn't have any problem with it adhering. The powder gets pretty locked in to the texture of the ballast and ties.
I just left it active honestly, it sticks to the ballast well since it's such a rough texture. But you could also flat coat it if you want. Be gentile with the spray otherwise the powder could dry darker.
I would do any scenery work thats by the tracks first! Technically, the ground/scenery was there first before the railroad in real life. It's also easier to lay ballast on scenery instead of ballast first and fit the scenery around.
Love this! I'm starting to build my layout and this is great inspiration.
Thank you!
Man that ballast looks really good! Thanks for showing another outfit to order ballast from.
No problem! This is actually my first time using Arizona Rock and Mineral and I'm being using them from now on!
I love the look of your scene in your intro, with the scenery increasing in elevation the closer it gets to the fascia. Good video!

@@JDERailCorp Much better than the banjo music so many like to use!

I appreciate the kind words and sub! I'm looking forward to share more!
Great video! I agree, with a bit of work the track really becomes it’s on model and character in the scene. Happy New year to you!

@@justn2trains Thanks for the advice! I'm slowly learning how to "game" the algorithm lol

Great job ballasting the track. Sometimes you do get some bigger chunks mixed in with the ballast from Arizona Rock & Mineral.
Thanks, good to know!

How do you keep the chalk in place?

Do you like doing ballast before other ground covering, or should I ballast after other scenery is done?
