On a similar note, the simple pitch shift has become an indispensible tool for me. Drop it in front of one of the existing bass presets down one octave and my stratocaster turns into an instant bass. It sounds surprisingly good in a mix as well as long as you stay below the 7th fret, otherwise things can get a bit wonky.
These tones are wild. I've never been one to buy presets for this kind of thing but this video sold me. You're squeezing so much out of the DSP limits of the Stomp! Just super impressive work here.
This is great. I have a stomp and have never done much with the poly blocks for that very reason. Will have to give this a try. I love what you do with the tremolo/autopan and reverse delay there
Hey John. You seem to have no issues coming up with the video ideas given your relentless (in a good way! at least to me) output, but I'll share one anyway: "Retro Reel is the best overdrive in Helix". I'm not a big fan of "classic" overdrive pedals, because while they can be super useful, they have this arbitrary, unchangeable "signature" of how much of the signal they cut or boost, and how hard they compress. This can work wonders with some amps (classic TS into black panel Fender, or Crowther Hot Cake into a VOX combos) but if you like to use different amps in your modeler, you'll quickly find that some overdrives are kinda picky about the amp they are going into. Because of that, I grew to love more "preamp-y" pedals with more or less "flat" response (at least when compared to popular overdrive pedals). There's currently a modified version of Boss FA-1 preamp (FET Overbooster by Drunk Beaver) + EQD Speaker Cranker on my board but I also like Benson Preamp, Hudson Broadcast, JPTR FX Jive, etc. I've kinda regretted that my HX Stomp doesn't have emulations of similar pedals, but yesterday, on a whim, I decided to put Retro Reel first in the chain (instead of near the end like I always do), turn down the wow/flutter, and add a whole lot of saturation into the amp which had a surprisingly great result. It kinda sounds like one of those preamp-y, "flat response" pedals I mentioned above, which still has low/high cut if necessary, and can add just a touch of interesting movement to the signal with wow/flutter (which many players like to do anyway with an early in chain Vibrato/Vibe/Phaser pedal on very mild settings). Anyway, that might be a fun thing for you to explore and perhaps make a video about. Cheers! Matt
Beaut. Would love to play about with that. Also realised that i could use the poly capo to play mr brightside in the wrong key that the singer insists on singing in.
The latest Update is releasing the power of brilliant programming architecture of the HX Stomp. I don't have a Baritone Guitar, but with the new Update, maybe I'll be able to get that low pitch from guitar tuned at Standard pitch, and still have enough DSP available to add Blocks to create a cool Preset. Thanks!
At the moment I’m reserving judgement about whether the new cabs sound better - I’m inclined to say yes… but I do wonder if the dsp savings are largely from outsourcing the early reflections to the new reverb. Not complaining about that, mind you.
Did 3.7 bring us any nearer to the OC-5's Lowest Note Only function ? By that I mean, other than using the Crossover Filter to Low Pass the feed to the Pitch Block.
Great channel Had an idea ater watching Timmons vids of buying a Lonestar special and putting the guts into a fender head and speaker into a wide cab. Or should I just buy the Helix/stomp and save the workout?
Good video and tips. How is your studio work/projects coming along? The HX Stomp is very decent if you are on a tight budget. Otherwise, stretch up and get a Fractal FM9 and be done with it. It will exceed your tone needs for years to come. Lush tones and super high quality effects and DSP power for days. It also brings 9, count them, 9 glorious foot switches to bear! It is essentially the expensive, world class AxeFX III in an all-in-one floor version- nearly perfect! There is a reason nearly all pro's run Fractal units. By contrast, I don't know a single one who tours with a Stomp. Think about that. For a beginner- practicing at home an HX Stomp is great. For everyone else, Fractal is the way IMO. They are so good these days you really won't need to upgrade for a long time and still have amazing, world-class tone. *It's a great time to be a guitar player!*
If getting into pitch shifter land, it'd be awesome if you could dial a Steve Lukather lead tone, kind of what he did in the 90's. Been trying to replicate that but it's hard for the chorus and pitch shifter to get along.
I've just discovered that if you make a loop (helix) you can add 8 fx , so dsp allowing you can, should you want to, run 32 fx. Dunno if it works on the stomp yet
Wow. This is very impressive. IMHO, it sounds better than the Electro Harmonix stuff - or am I wrong? Would you say that this puts it ahead also of the Ampero II Stage? Because I'm torn between the two for my next purchase that will last me many years.
I note how perfect your pitch changes sound with no untoward notes, yet, when I implement a poly or capo changer and increase the mix to 100%, I can still hear the guitars natural note coming through? It is not acoustic sound of the guitar, it is part of the mono signal produced by the unit. Is there anything obvious that I could be doing wrong? Embarrassing as this is, I was wrong. I was hearing the acoustic note. it's not there on the output signal at all! Apologies.
I'd love to access the firmwar update but Line6 won't let me login or create another account I just get the code "324".I'm instructed to get a support ticket but to get one you have *LOGIN FIRST* .I've never been able to get them on the phone or in FB messenger,Twitter messages NOTHING.F*ck Line6.Good for those who are not locked outside like me.I will never buy a Line6 product ever again. Thanks for the tutorial,Line6 should be doing them but they rely on customers - the same way they do with thier "support"

Gorgeous tones here JNC. love it. Yes please add to the folder if you could. Appreciate all you do for us Helix owners. Keep it up. You rock.

Very nice. Would love to see it in the folder.
Don’t know it felt like Guthrie in the intro jam. Wow Jon you’re becoming a legend of sorts. So happy to have you in our lives.
Wow! Now THATS a compliment!
Line 6 Effects are getting better every year! Beautiful tone and playing John 🙂
Dang dude! Game changing update forsure!
Wow those are seriously awesome tones❤❤❤

Did he ever do it??
@@ksharpe10 I don't think so.
@@Lynx33PL jason sadites did.
Great stuff. You've making this patch sound delicious.
great minds think alike, I was doing exactly this yesterday!!!
Beautiful sounds there
Thanks for this video! I do background scores for plays and use ambient tones A LOT. This will be very helpful.
Beaut. Would love to play about with that. Also realised that i could use the poly capo to play mr brightside in the wrong key that the singer insists on singing in.
OOH! What key do you do it in? I make Lenny sing it in D hah
@@johnnathancordy well it’s in C# recorded but the tuning is i think so you’d be playing as if in C. Regardless, the singer insists on B

Brilliant stuff, will try this out tonight
Amazing tones!

I'm looking forward to giving this a try.
Can you please record an album or ep if your opening playing from these videos? I would so listen to this while working (and be massively productive)!
Did 3.7 bring us any nearer to the OC-5's Lowest Note Only function ?
By that I mean, other than using the Crossover Filter to Low Pass the feed to the Pitch Block.
how many different scenes of pitch shifting can you have on hx stomp ?
Yes. This has plenty is potential.
Simply yummy! I learn so much from everyone of your video Jonathan!!!!!

Is it possible to use this effectto make a bass emulator? thanks in advance!
Is the next thing going to be expandable memory?
Whats the best way to get the hx stomps settings join on patreon or buy them in your site?

so if your patch has over 50% DSP in use, and you try Poly Capo, it will appear in active in your list ???
Hi everybody. Wonder if the HX is good for drop half tone and stays clean without out of pitch notes ?
Love it.
Niiice! I was a bit disappointed by poly pitch before.
It was a bit tricky to fit into presets for sure!
@@johnnathancordy Exactly. I literally had a preset or two that was just Poly Capo/Pitch. Nothing else.
Does the HX stomp contain a micropitch like an Eventide?
Dual pitch may do what you're trying to achieve
Do you deck your tremolo, and what string gauge - 11-49s?
Hey John, in your Patreon do you have HX Stomps profiles for heavier stuff like Dream Theater or even Periphery ?
Is this possible with acoustic guitar?
Tasty playing👍
