I heard the Beatles back in 63 I was 7 years old and I had a radio in my hand and then the Beatles came on and that's when I remember I said I like this group this is my favorite group from here on out sure enough The Beatles at that time their music was different it sounded good the harmony everything about it was excellent and they did come at the right time because I remember plume before that the sadness the whole nation was when Kennedy got shot we didn't go to school for about a month but when the Beatles came everybody seemed to forget it

I loved the majority of the British bands that hit our shores way back then. I was only 13 when I first saw the Beatles on Ed's show in 64 and that event led to my lifelong love affair with the guitar and rock music. 60 years later I'm still playing as often as I can. I gave several of my guitars and amps to my son and grandson, and they are getting quite good.
Freddie and the Dreamers were a f****n joke. His crazy antics quickly grew old and me and my friends hated him and his band. Our parents and other older folks hated our music. It was the Devil's music and was going to cause the downfall of civilization they complained. They used Freddies band as an example of how rock music was going to rot our fragile teen minds. Thank goodness there weren't many goofy bands like Freddies.
I would like to say-Long live rock and roll, but sadly, I can't do that. The rock that my generation so loved for so long died many years ago. I'd rather jam out to ten hours of elevator music than to be forced to attend a Katy Perry or Taylor Swift concert. The only Swifty I want any part of is the excellent-Swifter PowerMop. Excellent mop, but I doubt if my Swifty Power Mop can clean the sh*t and stink Taylor and Katy leave after one of their concerts. Now, Adele-that lady is truly talented. I hope she quits smoking because she has a sweet, heavenly voice. I'm rolling in the deep with my admiration for her. See what I did there, kids? Later, 🐊

The thing is, (in contrast with top bands like The Beatles or Stones) that they were thrown to the US garage scene (since the Americans wanted to "stop" the invaders coming from the UK, in favour of local bands) , so they did develop a huge solid live sound rather say easily from their standards in beat music, they evolved to a more punch punk sound mid 60s, just as their friends The Kinks... but people missed it bc they also were forced to be commercially ad hoc for the charts. What a shame, a top band if you ask me.

When I was in the 7th grade , just after my 13th birthday, the FBI came to my school and demanded that my band tell them the " dirty lyrics to 'Louie Louie' . We played it for them and then told them there are no 'dirty words anywhere in the song on the song we recited them and said them like they're sung. They did not believe us. We explained that were written to sound Jamaican. Example; ' " Me see Jamaican moon above . ." and that the singer slightly slurs the words as Fats Domino recommended, he said " you should never sing the words too clearly ". They still wouldn't believe us. I wonder if anyone at the FBI ever put the record through the thing that filters out the other sounds in a much later decade to once and for all solve this non-mystery. Hope they can sleep better. A lot of ’B’ sides and straight up bubble gum music. I remember watching these shows with sub-three minute songs made for AM radio. This was the threshold of harder rock, psychedelic rock, long hair, albums, and hippies.
So much of this was real crap, but a few gold nuggets were included.
If I remember correctly, Shindig was the least cool of all the corny shows like this. I grew up around the music industry, lived in the Hollywood Hills around songwriters and artists. Such a pity that The Yardbirds were cut off before they finished. That is a great version of 'I'm A Man'.

The song is actually Mannish Boy. Check out any Muddy Waters hits album...it was his song.

@@oliaslives6986 Wrong. Bo Diddley wrote "I'm a Man" and then Muddy Waters, in friendly competition, wrote "Mannish Boy"

The real star of the Hollies (at least in these videos) is the exciting rhythm section of Eric Haydock on bass and Bobby Elliott on drums. They are really smoking here.

1965 was the year I became absolutely smitten with music. I turned 13 in December of that year. We could only receive three channels on our tv: ABC, CBS and PBS. If I recall correctly Shindig was on ABC, Channel 13 with Hullaballo being broadcast on NBC, Channel 6 which we didn't receive. It's funny because I remember Bobby Sherman, Bobby Sherman and Bobby Sherman singing on Shindig and not so many of those shown here that were favorites of that time for me. Thank you.

My first music memories started in about 1960. What a difference three years makes. I was 7 when the British Invasion started. Still amazed how we went from two minute Beatles songs to Hendrix in such a short time. It was a lot of excitement and radio was still great too.
