True, but isn’t that the case for any work of art, regardless of the medium, that’s available to other cultures? And it isn’t limited to just cultural differences but generational as well… But the fun is learning more and not sticking at the surface level or just taking things at face value. That’s how cultural appropriation begins-when people lack the curiosity and respect to understand and appreciate something that they’re not inherently apart of (culturally speaking).
Part of what makes the Naruto world so rich and vibrant is the well of mythological influences from everywhere. Some Hindu mythology is there : Indra and Asura In Hindu mythology, Indra was a deity (known as Devas) that wielded lightning bolts, and did battle with the evil and power hungry Asuras. You can see a role reversal here, but there’s definitely a reason this lightning attack: is called Indra’s Arrow. Furthermore, the mythological wielded a bow too… the rainbow. The godly versions made an appearance on a Naruto front spread: Asura: Indra: Enma Its Japanese name is Henge: Kongō nyoi. “Kongō” is the Japanese translation for Vajra, a ritualistic object/weapon wielded by the mythological Indra above. It’s also a Sanskrit word meaning “thunderbolt” and “diamond”, which is referred to in the object’s meaning as the object is supposed to represent diamond’s toughness and force of thunder. Enma is also the Japanese translation for “Yama”, the Hindugod who decides where people go after they die. Garuda Sasuke’s hawk is called Garuda. In Hindu mythology, Garuda is a bird man and often seen as “king of the birds”. His depictions vary between more birdlike and more human though. Yashamaru The first kanji in his name “夜叉” (Yasha) is the Japanese way of saying “Yaksha”. In Hindu mythology, a Yaksha is a kind of spirit that is usually benevolent, but also has a darker and more sinister side. There’s a clear parallel here, where Yashamaru is normally nice but had to be cruel to young Gaara on his last mission. Rinnegan’s Six Paths Each of the path names are connected with Hindu mythology. We’ve covered Asura and Deva, but there is still two to cover: Preta: Ghostly looking supernatural beings that endure unabating suffering as they seek to try and satiate relentless hunger and thirst. Of course, Naruto’s Preta Path is about guzzling an opponent’s chakra. Naraka: The realm of hells where souls go to be cleansed of their sins. This is the place that Yama resides, and decides the fates of souls. This ties in with Naruto’s Naraka Path being the ability to control life and death. There’s an old Japanese saying that was used to scare kids into telling the truth… “"If you lie, Lord Enma will pull out your tongue" The King of Hell of course, could do that. Hashirama’s Mokuton His wood dragon resembles a Makara from Hindu mythology: Shinsuusenju is also influenced by the Hindu-Buddhist creation of Avalokiteśvara: Also known in Japanese as the Senju Kannon. Hyuga Juinjutsu In the manga, the symbol on the middle of the seal is a swastika, an important symbol in Hinduism. Because of the connotations with Nazism it has gained in the West though, the anime changed it to a normal cross: Part of what makes the Naruto world so rich and vibrant is the well of mythological influences from everywhere. You missed the Chakra network which is also from vedic and taoic medicine, the vedic nidhi system is more extensive and is not the Chakra network (which is shown in Naruto) but another system is the marma system as well. Also thank you very much for that reference to the diamond, since I was trying to figure out how indra kills cut down the forests that Dan tended before her and her son's death.
猿 saru , means monkey in case nobody has mentioned that. I was introduced to Naruto during the orochimaru Vs sarutobi fight so when enma was summoned and turned into the stick I got the first folklore reference there.
Great video. I dont know if it is any conection but en Yuu Yuu Hakusho one of the main characters is a kyubi kitsune called Kurama. In the othe hand, as far as I know the gamen yanken actually is rock paper sissors, its also great to know it also represents toad, slug and snake. Also in older mangas, like in Kamui, nijas trained hawks and dogs (I dont know if it is inspired in folklore).
Nice exploration of the mythology of the shinobi, and in particular of things like how the "Hidden Village" concept came to be. First I'd actually heard of it, though I'd heard of the Iga and Koga clans before this. This makes the legendary Iga shinobi Kirigakure Saizo make much more sense, if the Iga village was in a misty valley. Of course, a legendary shinobi from a misty village would be associated with mist and illusion...which pretty clearly ties right back into characters like Zabuza and Haku. One small nitpick, though: pretty sure that Susanoo is pronounced with a glottal, given that it's also transliterated as Susano'o/Susano-o, or even Susanowo. "Su-sa-no-oh", not "Susan-oh".
In Naruto series, Some character names and weapons names are similar to Tamil language, Example: Ashura : Suriyan( Tamil ) = Sun ☀️ Indra : Indiran ( Tamil ) = Moon🌙 Kunai : Kurmunai ( Tamil ) = a type of weapon 🗡️ Chakra : Sakaram ( Tamil ) = 7 Sakaram in human body☸️ etc. And Beast Ball statues are here in Some Tamilnadu's temples
Does anyone know who made the cover art for The Secret Traditions of the Shinobi: Hattori Hanzo's Shinobi Hiden and Other Ninja Scrolls that is shown here on the video?
Many Indian gods are still enshrined in Japanese Buddhist temples. Also, 呪術 (JYU-JYUTU) and 密教 (Mikkyo) are still ongoing. Most people don't care about it in their daily lives, but it naturally exists there.
This was very helpful, thank you, you saved me some trouble. Also, this has nothing to do with mythology, and maybe it's already obvious, but The Great Stone Faces aka Hokage Rock, is a reference to and inspired by Mt. Rushmore in the United States.

Susanoos armor was probably inspired by samurai but Susanoo is the shinto god of the storm he is also the brother of Amaterasu and they are the kids of Izanagi and Izanami. All Uchiha jutsus are based on shinto mythology. Tsukuyomi is the moon god.

Prana is Sanskrit Vitality. Chakra is Sanskrit for basically Energy centre, Power centre in this case. Naadi are basically smaller junctions where energy and signals travel to and fro from Chakras to organs. The idea of Chi is based in Ancient Sanskrit versions of Chakras and Yoga.

Its crazy how much research you gotta do just to make an anime.. great work
I need that ninja looking over the town pic!!
I think if you look for "Iga ninja village" you will find it.
Part of what makes the Naruto world so rich and vibrant is the well of mythological influences from everywhere. Some Hindu mythology is there :
Indra and Asura

In Hindu mythology, Indra was a deity (known as Devas) that wielded lightning bolts, and did battle with the evil and power hungry Asuras. You can see a role reversal here, but there’s definitely a reason this lightning attack:

is called Indra’s Arrow. Furthermore, the mythological wielded a bow too… the rainbow. The godly versions made an appearance on a Naruto front spread:

Asura:

Indra:

Enma

Its Japanese name is Henge: Kongō nyoi.

Garuda

Sasuke’s hawk is called Garuda. In Hindu mythology, Garuda is a bird man and often seen as “king of the birds”.

His depictions vary between more birdlike and more human though.
Yashamaru

The first kanji in his name “夜叉” (Yasha) is the Japanese way of saying “Yaksha”. In Hindu mythology, a Yaksha is a kind of spirit that is usually benevolent, but also has a darker and more sinister side. There’s a clear parallel here, where Yashamaru is normally nice but had to be cruel to young Gaara on his last mission.

Rinnegan’s Six Paths

Each of the path names are connected with Hindu mythology. We’ve covered Asura and Deva, but there is still two to cover:
Preta: Ghostly looking supernatural beings that endure unabating suffering as they seek to try and satiate relentless hunger and thirst.
Hashirama’s Mokuton
His wood dragon resembles a Makara from Hindu mythology:

Shinsuusenju is also influenced by the Hindu-Buddhist creation of Avalokiteśvara:

Also known in Japanese as the Senju Kannon.
Hyuga Juinjutsu
In the manga, the symbol on the middle of the seal is a swastika, an important symbol in Hinduism.

Because of the connotations with Nazism it has gained in the West though, the anime changed it to a normal cross:

Chakra Means Energy in Sanskrit and Most of the Hindu God hold a Chakra in a finger like God Krishna hold *swadarshan* *chakra*

Dude do you have a life bruh
@@saidmaz7876 dude appreciating the traditions of people is a very good hobby to have, it's far better than the hobby of alcoholism or facebooking.

6:31 Bruh I am dead on the floor😂😂😂😂😂
This video is so good, thank you
So basically, Japan, China, and India liked the series so much, they developed the whole culture based on it.
Really interesting. Looking forward to part 2.
Great 🤘🏻💪🏻 really informative 😇
I read somewhere that Kishimoto actually admitted that he named Kurama directly after the Yuu Yuu Hakusho character.
Man we gotta get you more Subs
I thought you would of had millions with how dope your videos are
4:26 oddly looks like shadow possession jutsu 😳
Rat hand sign, ne
When he said "Americans miss interpreted into gang signs" made me laugh so much lol
Me the whole video “Soo coooool!!!” “Whaaat, noway! that’s so cool!!”
There’s an occult story being told in naruto as well
I’m disappointed that you couldn’t see the Sumerian in Naruto either
Is it the part of Asura or Ahura in the mesapotamian civilisation?
@@TechWizard28 Sumerian

In Naruto series, Some character names and weapons names are similar to Tamil language,
Example:
Ashura : Suriyan( Tamil ) = Sun ☀️
Indra : Indiran ( Tamil ) = Moon🌙
Kunai : Kurmunai ( Tamil ) = a type of weapon 🗡️
Chakra : Sakaram ( Tamil ) = 7 Sakaram in human body☸️
etc. And Beast Ball statues are here in Some Tamilnadu's temples
Appreciate This You Helpin Us Be How Creator Made Us Ta Be 🤘🏽
Does anyone know who made the cover art for The Secret Traditions of the Shinobi: Hattori Hanzo's Shinobi Hiden and Other Ninja Scrolls that is shown here on the video?
Many Indian gods are still enshrined in Japanese Buddhist temples.
Also, 呪術 (JYU-JYUTU) and 密教 (Mikkyo) are still ongoing.
Most people don't care about it in their daily lives, but it naturally exists there.
5:50 mentions Chi
DO you know kung fu panda 3? It was about chi.
"An energy that flows through all living things."
Lol is how he said American mistaking it for gang signs lol
This was very helpful, thank you, you saved me some trouble. Also, this has nothing to do with mythology, and maybe it's already obvious, but The Great Stone Faces aka Hokage Rock, is a reference to and inspired by Mt. Rushmore in the United States.
Dojutsu Story Was So Epic
I Never Imagined That Amaterasu,Tsukuyomi and Susanoo Were God Amazing Video❤❤
So lord shimura beem wrong. He said the only honorable way to fight an enemy is face to face. He really was blinded by his way lol
I saw all three of your best, well what I feel is the best. Episodes. Princess mononoke, spirited away and least but definitely not least this one.!!
Thak you so much for this rare and deeply thorough vid.
Very well done 👍❤
Any man practicing the way of Bushido... a samurai literally and openly states ninjutsu is a form of cowardice and so forth. They don't think lightly of ninja lmao
Thank you for this video!
Toward the end of shippuuden I was def thinkin of some new world order/revelation vibes. Classic esoteric/occult story.
Madara wanting to put everyone under the spell that they are living in peace & unity when they were all in a deep sleep unaware of the spell.
Naruto like to use sexy jutsu
Kitsune like to disguise beautiful female tricks human male
Dude I havnt seen many people say this, but you seem to put a LOT of work into this. I mean you explained EVERYTHING my man. You’re awesome! Keep it up ima subscribe thanks to all the great information. Ik it prob gets hard sometimes for you to study that much information, but dude if you enjoy it keep it going I’ll watch if anything!
Sasuke be giving a shout out to his Gang the Uchiha by performing fire style gang signs😂😂😂
Thanks for the video it is great and gives lot of answers.
I'd love to see a video on Yugioh and the egyptian magic stuff it's supposed to be loosely based on.
That would be interesting too
Wait what?!
So much knowledge...great work
This could be a Netflix series
Sasuke & Naruto was from Raijin & Fuijin everyone should've known that cause of their element release
18:15 Did you just reference the English dubbed Naruto by NOT saying "DATTEBAYO!!" YOU'RE FIRED!!
Naruto himself draws a lot of tropes and motifs from Kitsune themselves. The Sexy Jutsu being based off of prankster Kitsune ability to transform into women to trick as well as Naruto's earlier prankster personality. Naruto's habit of keeping his eyes closed is always a Kitsune thing
Vastly entertaining!
I love topics like this!
In addition to the Eight headed serpent vs Susanoo. It is said that story represents the equivalent of the story of Good vs Evil/Heaven vs Hell in different religions, shintoism, Buddhism, Christianity equivalents. Jesus vs the anti-christ or satan. So basically Itachi is Jesus. XD
Oh I think everybody knows that lol 😂
😂 comedy.
You are saying that Naruto is full of legends......
in my opinion NARUTO it self is a LEGEND!!!
Love it, cant wait for shippuden episode, although maybe make that 2 or 3 part since is quite a bigger series.
16:54 the best part of the Naruto song or any song
can you do mythology behind shadow of the colossus
4:43 5:17
What is that the end of scorpions chain from Mortal Kombat ?
I noticed a long ago that Luffy's gear 4 was inspired by sumos and the Susanoo was inspired by Samurais.
Susanoos armor was probably inspired by samurai but Susanoo is the shinto god of the storm he is also the brother of Amaterasu and they are the kids of Izanagi and Izanami. All Uchiha jutsus are based on shinto mythology. Tsukuyomi is the moon god.
Awesome video. I'm doing a project for an English class where I have to compare two similar fictional texts and I'm doing Naruto and Harry Potter. This was a huuuuuge help with my research. Thanks man!!
6:54 OHHHH SHIITTT, so minato actually was using a hand sign when he held up his kunai. I thought he was jsut holding it up like a boss. Damn, what a flex,
lol.. man, he WOULD use the ring of the sun too. flying light and shit damn
Thank you for this detailed analysis.
He got almost everything that I could think of in the original Naruto. Shippuden has a lot including names of Real ninja like Hanzo, and the Gold and Silver brothers direct reference from two demons in journey to the west, along with all the weapons of the sage of the six paths.
Prana is Sanskrit Vitality. Chakra is Sanskrit for basically Energy centre, Power centre in this case. Naadi are basically smaller junctions where energy and signals travel to and fro from Chakras to organs. The idea of Chi is based in Ancient Sanskrit versions of Chakras and Yoga.
true. The term chakra is sanskrit but in the show its based on Chi/Qi from chinese philosophy and the force from star wars. Chakra nodes are more like Acupressure points??
@@anime_mythology_tv17 Read about Kundalini. Many Chinese Concepts came from Ancient Sanskrit.
Kundalini is all about flow of energy. Tantra is all about manipulating energies around us and within. Sure they might have used word Chakra to mean something else, but it is all about awakening Kundalini and conjuring powers that can't be done otherwise.
And Accupuncture points are basically Naadi points where energy changes direction and character.
@@krishnaats7141 I know of kundalini yoga a bit. Its when you do certain practices to activate the psycho somatic energy of the body which is located at the sacrum. I needed to read a book the kuji in technique bc I guess it activates certain "chakras" in the body?!
True. Tantra is all about manipulating the life force energy of a person reach enlightenment. Bc the kundalini must travel up the spine to the brain.
