- The Karula National Park in the south of Estonia is a perfect place for black storks to nest and breed.
The two adult birds we watched last year were named Karl II and Kati. They had four chicks, initially, but only two went on to fledge. Sadly, neither of them survived.

RIP Karl II. He has been killed in Turkey. Early October. Power lines. We're devastated. He was a devoted Papa and a truly wonderful partner to Kaia. You will live on in our hearts for ever, dear Karl.💔💔💔💔💔

For those bitching about the band on their legs: You do realize this is normal procedure for almost all birds that are in some sort of park or sanctuary right? They do the same to owls, hawks, eagles, etc. It doesn't limit their mobility at all. It's above the joint, it's the equivalent of having an ankle bracelet you would wear to the beach or some shit.
God forbid we try to be able to identify them.

The Karula National Park in the south of Estonia It's so perfect for nesting black storks that this documentary is the second I've seen where nesting fails almost entirely. For me it is not normal.
