Surprisingly enough, Lil' Storklets (whether considered too weak or small) can take a lot of abuse before giving up the ghost! That almost tells me they are pretty strong. Hard to watch Liznm, but Black Storks are so fascinating not to watch! What is that noise at the very end? Sounds almost like tree branches breaking or some type of equipment in the background.
It amazes me watching these videos that adult storks don't seem to know how to peck. They've go a sharp pointed beak that could much more quickly finish off the unfortunate chick, but instead they give it a slow death of 1000 cuts. I've seen some of the other siblings appear to copy their parents and attack the weakest chick, and they seemed to do something resembling a peck. But the adults just don't seem to do so, which seems strange to me as their beak would otherwise appear to be their most formidable weapon.
I think their point is to try and break their necks by how they twist themselves when they had the baby in their mouths. Since they had long necks, the whiplash will be big. To bad they SUCK at it and end up making the baby suffering for several minutes.

As the smallest and showing weakness they were killed so there was more food for the others. In animals, mothers will kill the weak ones if there is a lack of food or if they are sick or weak. This is seen in all animals though more often in birds and rodents. Given the birds noticeable smaller size, it will continue staying small due to the other pushing it out of the way to get food. So other than wasting food on the one that will die anyways, the mother bird will kill it.
If I may add. I love the large silvery branches that shoot out either way crookedly like it's been CGI'd from Batman Inc. It's just nature doing stuff that we'd have a floor's worth working on now.
I know why do they do that? Also, why are they doing it PERIOD? They’re worried about their chick MAYBE starving, and then ultimately dying, so the solution... kill it? I mean I understand the risk of food being ‘wasted’ on it, food that could have went to the other storklets, but what makes more sense to me is that if it did happen to starve to death, then the rest could eat it. But I know that they know what they’re doing farrrrr more than I ever could as just a human observer, and also I know it’s silly to judge them. Personally though I don’t think I could watch them anymore. I didn’t watch this video, just came to read the descriptions and comments etc

While I understand the cruelty of nature, I wish Mom did it in a quicker, more painless fashion, like eating it alive. Storks eat fish, frogs, snakes alive anyways.
Birds are reptilian in nature and while birds do care for their young, their reptilian instinct still holds some sway over them. It is not only storks but a lot of other bird species also end up committing such horrendous acts. They go by instinct of weeding out the weaklings rather than maternal compassion.

It's probably choosing the fittest knowing 4 large chicks take some feeding & out they go. Eagles do it too by laying two eggs, one a spare. As first egg hatches it then allows both birds to grow. Once the first chick is strong enough then she kicks the second one out depending on a lean or fallow year.

Лес на фоне гнезда не похож на пустынное место, голоса птиц и лягушек в флёровом шуме не похожи на звуки с отсутствием добычи, только вот это не меняет положения птицы на гнезде, если она выкармливает одних за счёт других. Второй особи в виде отца-кормильца явно бы имело смысл подтаскивать еды к гнезду больше и чаще, тогда бы привычки поедания своих внутри гнезда можно было не формировать с самого детства и этим увеличить численность своей популяции, а значит дать возможности для дальнейшего сохранения вида, болот и лягушек на аистов бы хватило вполне и в достатке, выжили бы, они же перелетные.

Странная птица, такое ощущение что второй родитель погиб, или бросил гнездо, если все происходит по сценарию детского страшного стишка про «десять негритят», когда со временем число «черненьких» в гнезде становится на один меньше. Лес на фоне гнезда не похож на пустынное место, голоса птиц и лягушек в флёровом шуме не похожи на звуки с отсутствием добычи, только вот это не меняет положения птицы на гнезде, если она выкармливает одних за счёт других. Второй особи в виде отца-кормильца явно бы имело смысл подтаскивать еды к гнезду больше и чаще, тогда бы привычки поедания своих внутри гнезда можно было не формировать с самого детства и этим увеличить численность своей популяции, а значит дать возможности для дальнейшего сохранения вида, болот и лягушек на аистов бы хватило вполне и в достатке, выжили бы, они же перелетные.

因为环境受人为影响,缺乏食物,母鸟为了确保孩子们的生存率,把最小的孩子给牺牲了。
