    Wing effects are spectacular for this price range. Can't wait for the Wing rack in a few months. I've seen people complaining that they prefer the A&H (and others) model of a huge effects library & buy licenses for the ones you want. Be careful what you wish for... I work on an old Avid D-show (circa 2008) at one venue, over the years the system drive has been replaced & the license keys lost. Nobody has a clue what was licensed or how to prove the purchase to Avid. So we are stuck with this supposedly stadium grade board with a stupidly limited set of onboard effects. Enjoy the fact that Behringer gives you a great selection of effects built right into the firmware, and 10 or 15 years from now, you'll still have access to every one of them.

    There is a phase issue i guess on the drum overheads but other than that great mix overall. Very well done.

    • @alexleebataller
      @alexleebataller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No phasing here, it’s intentional hi-passing to remove low end from the overheads and create space for the kick, snare, and toms to live.

      ya, it sounds like a short delay doubled, imo i think the “paralell” compression isnt delay compensated or something. imo the parallel compression can be done right in-line without using a seperate bus

    I have been considering this board for quite some time for our band. Currently on a X32 and the wing just seems to have boatloads more power epsecially in the effects processing. I enjoyed watching your techniques and I think you have come up with a great overall sound. Congrats and thanks for a great video.

    Sidechain compression:
    The overhead compressor will not engage with the overhead signal. It will compress the overhead signal when the snare (sidechain) level hits the threshold.

    I'm glad to hear that Behringer "fixed" the FX timing issue with the Wing console. WIth the X32, the FX racks were not delay compensated so it could really screw with your mixes sound unless you were aware of this and compensated for it.

    Nice video and a great mix! As an X32 user I enjoyed seeing some of the cool things you can do with the wing.
    There are a couple of minor things with the mix I think you can improve if you're interested.
    1. I really like what you did with the tape saturation on the drum smash group, but unfortunately since it's on an insert it knocks the whole bus out of time with the dry channels and causes harsh comb filtering. I've run into the same exact issue using the X32.
    You can test if it's really the tape saturation by soloing all your drums, turning down the tape sim to where it's doing practically nothing, and toggle it on and off. You should still be able to hear a huge difference, especially in the high end. It will impart a harsh digital tonality, and if you look at the RTA on LR you'll also be able to see the numerous notches in the spectrum this creates on the entire drum sound.
    2. I don't know about your venue of course, but at least in mine, panning individual elements as wide as 40% doesn't yield ideal results. Despite my venue's speakers being at most 40ft apart, most of the audience is not in a place where they can hear both speakers equally, at all. A vast majority will hear one speaker drastically louder than the other one across the room from them, meaning anything you pan too hard is going to get lost in the mix for people on one side of the room, and be too loud for people on the other side. You end up with a wider mix for people in the middle, but an inconsistent mix for people on either side of the room. It's not a very good tradeoff in my opinion. If you haven't considered this before I'd really recommend walking to either side of the room and concentrating on the guitars and the toms.
    Here's a good video regarding the specifics of this: th-cam.com/video/DHlbu9qupOo/w-d-xo.html
    3. The autotune is introducing some unwanted artifacts. Sometimes you can hear it pulling the vocalist to the wrong note and it's a bit distracting.
    Example: 38:26 - the front part of the "oh" gets garbled, and on the word "jesus" the "us" part quickly snaps between two notes. You can hear similar artifacts elsewhere. These artifacts can really mess up the emotional aspect of the vocal.
    IMO, the speed and amount should be turned down a bit, maybe half of the current setting for both.

    • @alexleebataller
      @alexleebataller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @blakerhodehamel6300

    Not trying to be a douche, but that parallel bus is definitely making the drum mix phasie baby haha! You're mix sounds killer tho!! We run a wing at church too, and I love it!
    Try to throw all your drums into just a dry bus, and don’t send the individual inputs to the master bus. Then send the dry bus as well as the parallel to the master bus. Boom, phase annihilated. The wing doesn't do manual delay compensation, so in order to keep everything in time, you've gotta send related sources to the same level of processing in order to avoid phase issues. This is also true for the inserts, so like if you have an effect rack inserted on snare top and not snare bottom they'll come out of time with each other, but just engaging the insert slot with nothing in there will put it in time delay compensation wise with everything else.

    Parallel universe here. I mix at Gateway Church, Parkesburg, PA. Also on X32, considering Wing as next step. Using X32R for IEMs and could just replace FoH X32 pretty easily and use rack for inputs. What do you use for your stagebox? We have what I could say is a similar size stage and room to what your GTWY online videos show from services. Nearing our limits on capability on X32 especially in terms of effects. Considering Avantis but costs are higher than we can really justify.

    • @alexleebataller
      @alexleebataller  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome brother!
      We use Midas DL32. You will just need to be creative on which channels your send to your X32 for IEM, since you’ll increase your count to 48 (stereo capable) channels on the wing. The I/O capability for wing is in the hundreds, can’t remember the exact max.

    • @johnmcvicker6728
      @johnmcvicker6728 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexleebataller Thanks - and the plug-ins on the Wing seems to be a great solution - I clicked into the video right into the AC Gtr and it was playing in stereo and I see you just put a Reverb right onto the channel (since it's stereo, you're done there) but hearing the guitar in stereo jumps out at me as an x32 guy - to do that requires a bus or other trick to get the haas effect. Instead of having to do a stereo pair of buses in the X32 and eat two of 12 and then have to mix further into the matrix for final output. So many are using an X32 basically to mix all mono channels into one stereo pair of buses and calling it a day for their online feeds. I find that lacking and the Wing will blow all that away.

If you can't get a great sound from the wing, then one's skills should be questioned rather than add masses of plugins.
