I think I read about a theory that it's the heat from underneath, rather than just debris, that malforms the keyboard components and causes them to malfunction. Could this explain why your only lightly used keyboard broke?
We though the people buying iMac Pros were going too far, but now we're seeing TH-camrs with $20K Mac Pros. I don't want to tell anyone how to spend their money, but those TH-camrs don't need those types of machines. Why not just buy something a little lower-end and pocket the rest? Again though, not my decision.
I haven't had a desktop in years. XPS Laptops and they have done great. However, I like your thoughts on this setup. I would probably start with what you have and then double up with another iMac shortly thereafter.
@@Dmckdnsmssnsns I mean that relatively. They aren't cheap compared to a windows computer. However, you should know that going into the purchase. I mean cheap for a Mac. Getting a $400 iMac when a new one is over 1K is cheap. It's relative. A $30,000 car is not cheap if its a Honda or a Ford. A $30,000 used S Class is cheap. A $200 purse isn't cheap but if its a used Prada bag, then it's cheap. Also "just ram..." I have no clue what you mean. Like RAM as in random access memory? My assumption. Okay and? what about it?
I am in a very similar position to you, but ultimately decided to stay with the Macbook because of the T2 chip for final cut pro. It actually crushes the Imac.

Awesome video! I’ve actually been working from home temporarily during the outbreak. Unfortunately, because I work for the federal government, I have to use gov-issued Win10 PC’s rather than Mac’s. But for my own freelance work/TH-cam production, I use an iMac and a MacBook Pro. They really are super amazing machines. Much better than anything I’ve ever used. 🤙🏽
I had the same configuration before (MacBook + display) and my MacBook also changed its form. That's because it was constantly connected to power. Its battery has deformed. You should go to Apple service if you want to fix it.
Definitely a smart move to go for the 1TB SSD and not talk yourself into a smaller one. Only thing I would've done differently was consider the upgrade to the i9 only because the none of the desktop i5s have Hyperthreading, which I think your workload could benefit from.
I also opted for the iMac, but now find that the white keys on the keyboard tend to get dirty quite quickly. Thinking that I should replace it with the grey one, but it does feel like a bit of a waste...
I have the late 2015 iMac and my 1TB Fusion drive recently failed (I'm not sure how...) so I just put in a new 2TB Samsung EVO SSD. It is the best bang for your buck. With Apple laptops lately, unless portability is a MUST, go for the iMac, it's an outstanding all-in-one. I'd buy one for my whole family if i could 😂
I switched because i got one for 950 Euro. i7 27" 4Ghz with 16GB Late 2015. Great value, just a little pixel problem in one screen corner that you do not realize in normal work. Now will upgrade to 64GB and buy an iFix Toolkit to open it and put a 4TB SSD in it. After this installing Win10 on it and my working machine is ready.
Thank you for this video, but according to several consumers very negative feedback for apple bad customer service and bad quality control in all products and OS and IOS becoming more and more unreliable. do you think apple's products still worth buying ? do you find IMACs more reliable than Macbooks? are you using the latest MAC OS which has a lot of issues ?
I've been very disappointed with macOS this year. I actually bought a 2019 iMac 27" on the day Catalina came out and updated before I installed my apps and put my files on. I wish I hadn't. With the next OS, I'm going to wait until the first quarter of 2021 before I update and I would recommend to anyone that they do the same. If you really want to try the new OS, you can actually install it on an external drive - that way you can have a play around with it and see how it goes without compromising your usual setup. As for the reliability of the products themselves, though, I've been using Macs since 2012, iPhones since 2008, and iPads since 2010 and I've not had any complaints at all. Software can be iffy at times, but your mileage may vary.
I’m looking at iMac’s since my iPad Pro is becoming a more versatile portable creative tool. Mind you I do more ideation on the go and final execution at home...
Not quite true. What you can't buy with the iMac is portability. At my company, we just use the Macbook's keyboard and Trackpad. Additionally, we buy 2X 27" monitors for all developers. Each monitor is about 200 USD. AOC brand. So in all, assuming the Macbook is 1,800 USD, then the total is 2K USD. Essentially compared to an iMac, one pays 200 USD more for portability.
I'm saving up for a new computer right now. The new 16" MBP is really nice, but so expensive... I don't require the portability (although being able to take the computer to a different room is really nice) so I guess I'll consider an iMac. But now I feel like there is a new iMac just around the corner so should I wait?? Ugh or just build a PC??
the Price difference at about 5:30 was incorrect as you didn’t add the SSD cost which is an extra £450! If you bump up to the next one up the SSD cost reduces, the top of the range only costs an extra £250 for the SSD. I say only, its a £100 item if you buy it separately and apple charge 4.5x the cost which is a shame. Nice machine though
The main reason (of two) I don't buy an iMac is that I hope they will sooner than later release an iMac with a larger screen. 27 inches is just too small for 4K, not to mention 5K! The other reason is cost as here the prices are too high and they have also yet to reduce the upgrade prices of ssd/ram. Good video, enjoy your new iMac.
I made the same choice relative to portability. Curious about the portable speakers next to your iMac. The built in speakers on the iMac suck. What would you suggest?
I noticed Ultralinx has "a maven channel" at the bottom of the page. Was just curious about if you sold it and if you did I would love to know the story behind that huge success. Love your content keep up the awesome work man!
why did you pick the base model vs the mid-tier? Im trying to decide on an iMac myself. I am thinking of going on to get the SSD and upgrade RAM myself. I do some video editing for my channel, some photo editing for fun (hobby), but i hope to make it a part-time job one day. thanks
@@Chukonu5 and not for all 2015 models. I have one, warped, otherwise working perfectly fine. But based on my serial number, it is NOT covered by the battery issue. Go figure.
Thanks for sharing, not quite accurate compare tho. Let’s do a realistic one comparing base models. 16 “MacBook Pro have better proccesor , better graphic card, more ram, ssd native. You have stated extra expenses in the setup you used, but not all users need external monitor and mouse/keyboard. But extra expense that every iMac user needs from base model is more ram from unrealisticly low 8gb in 2020 and a fusion drive from the dark age. Additionaly on MbPro 16” Apple have reverted to the buterfly keyboard from scissor type so it is same as in the magic kb that iMac use. Only realistic tought i have heard here is that you should choose the one to suit your needs of portability or lack of it. P.S. If anyone is watching this in June, 2020, just wait for the 2020 Q3 for redesigned iMac with smaller dimension duento thiner bezels, more ram and native pci-e ssd in base models. After that in 2021 arm silicone procs and new history from Apple.
I'm still on the fence now the 16 inch is out. My main reason to upgrade my 2016 macbook is the thermal throttling especially while using FCPX and 4k content. And the imac's lack the T2 chip which slows it down for H265 content. Is that an issue for the future? Isn't the 16 inch MBP the better FCPX machine now??
Hey ..I need help ..I noticed Harman kardon satellite speakers...I need it badly..because mine got damage...if possible send me the link where i can get only 2 satellite speakers
I currently have a dual core intel core i7 running at 2.9 GHz. Does it matter if I go to an iMac regardless of other specs with only an i5? I’m ok with spending the money but is it because the computer I’m still using is so old that no matter what the 2019+ iMacs are easily better now than they were in the past?
I still have them however they have quite a bit of white noise. They’re more tailored to larger rooms. My office is quite small and the harman kardons sounds better in the space.
3:54 happened to my MacBook Pro 2014. It was battery swell. They replaced my battery, top case, trackpad (or just fixed it) and keyboard for £200 (cost of the battery replacement)
iMac is definitely better if you don't need portability but I just can't get over the fact that they don't allow it to be used as an external display *at least* for a MBP. The fact that the 5K screen goes to waste as soon as the PC does is just sad and a little ridiculous. Not to say that the screen on a MBP doesn't suffer the same fate, it's just there's really no excuse on a 27" 5K desktop. I will say they're priced extremely attractively right now though.
Can only upgrade the ram in the 27“ model. 21“ model Apple is like 🖕🏻 Beside that I have the same decision at the moment and will go for an iMac. Reasons as mentioned in your video and I don‘t need portability that much anymore. Plus all the adapter bullsh** - don‘t need that in my life!
How much time difference for rendering a 4k video on the macbook vs. the air ? Note, the macbook uses the M version of the processors. They should be much slower.

I just got the new MacBook Air and I swear I am about to replace everything I own with apple tech. I don’t know if I’ll be able to resist the new iMac coming out this year
I think I read about a theory that it's the heat from underneath, rather than just debris, that malforms the keyboard components and causes them to malfunction. Could this explain why your only lightly used keyboard broke?
At last someone speaking sense. “The iMac pro is too much for me I don’t need that in my workflow”.
@@abubakrakram6208 You do realize many TH-camrs are now shooting in 8K? You seem like you don't know what you're talking about.
@@iamnotfunny1002 lol. 8k. So much for a youtube video, afterall.
yeah the price is a good deal if portability is not necessary. Portability is very important for me. Thanks for sharing your experience!!
I haven't had a desktop in years. XPS Laptops and they have done great. However, I like your thoughts on this setup. I would probably start with what you have and then double up with another iMac shortly thereafter.
Oliur: Why I switched to an IMac...
Me: Because you can afford to lol
They are quite cheap on eBay. You can find one for less than $400 and they are upgradable.
Kody with a K no they aren’t. Just ram..
It's so much cheaper than trying to splurge for a high end MacBook Pro that still can't really compete in terms of power.
@@Dmckdnsmssnsns yes they are
I am in a very similar position to you, but ultimately decided to stay with the Macbook because of the T2 chip for final cut pro. It actually crushes the Imac.
Well reviewed Oliur ... I love my iMac 27" with 24 GB Ram and 1TB SSD Drive ... Absolutely Brilliant
Simply beautiful piece of machinery.
I’m gonna wait for the redesign I’ve waited this long
No redesigns till the end of this year
Still ?
Hey man, been an Instagram follower for a while and didn’t realize you had a TH-cam channel! Stoked to check out your stuff! Subscribed.
Good choice. Got to have both.
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
CPU: 3.3 GHz Qual Core Intel Core i5
RAM: 24 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Graphic: AMD Radeon R9 M395 2 GB
Storage: 2TB Fusion Drive
Should I upgrade my iMac? It hurts that I can't do any type of 4k streaming while having such good machine, whilst my iPad Pro does a better job when it comes to streaming... I'm not a graphic designer or sth, just a normal desktop user... What should I do?
The iMac has coated glass and this makes the iMac have the better display
It’s basically like an optical lens
auroraflash until it’s somehow cracks.... :(
I loved mine but unfortunately I had to get rid of it
Awesome video! 🤙🏽
I still rather a MacBook. It’s way more comfortable for me.
I had the same configuration before (MacBook + display) and my MacBook also changed its form. That's because it was constantly connected to power. Its battery has deformed. You should go to Apple service if you want to fix it.
Interesting. Going to book an appointment ASAP.
You sound like the headspace guy!
Yeah, I thought his voice was familiar 😂
OMG you are right!
Definitely a smart move to go for the 1TB SSD and not talk yourself into a smaller one. Only thing I would've done differently was consider the upgrade to the i9 only because the none of the desktop i5s have Hyperthreading, which I think your workload could benefit from.
Thank you very much. You've talked more sense than the 20 other youtubers I watched.
The music in your Intro is soooo chill! 💯
You know what it is ?
I have an Imac and a Macbook Pro, love them both.
I also opted for the iMac, but now find that the white keys on the keyboard tend to get dirty quite quickly. Thinking that I should replace it with the grey one, but it does feel like a bit of a waste...
Use a damp micro fibre cloth and simply wipe it down. I do it all the time and it looks like a new keyboard every time :)
I carry my iMac actually - snaps in well to a seat belt in the back of my car
Vincent Jay I doooo😅 It has a cute little sleeve that goes around it with handles 😆
I'd buy one for my whole family if i could 😂
What a wonderful desk layout ‼︎‼︎‼︎‼︎‼︎
I got me an Imac Pro a few months now . Its an machine !
Macbook pro 16 : hold my beer
your theme is so satisfying
Having both is the best choice ;-)
@@benadamsondxb thank you for your response
Love your accent. I feel smarter just by listening to you 🌟
A british accent doesnt make one be or sound smarter.
I feel like I can cast a spell just by listening to him
love the intro music...
Same OS. I have both. Virtually the same experience for me.
Nice vid man! I’m using the clamshell setup looking at an iMac currently ✌️
Trusteft
27 inch is not too small for PC users. For me is more than enough.
the best video ive watched about that. gratz!
I do some video editing for my channel, some photo editing for fun (hobby), but i hope to make it a part-time job one day.
thanks
You may already know but just in case- RAM upgrades are possible only on the 27-inch, but not the 21-inch iMac
@@howardroark6594 yeah i know that. i was wondering about the 27" base (1799 ) vs mid (1999)
Apple recently released a new quality program for the 15 inch MacBook Pro regarding battery.
That was only for the 2015 model
@@Chukonu5 and not for all 2015 models. I have one, warped, otherwise working perfectly fine. But based on my serial number, it is NOT covered by the battery issue. Go figure.
The sound in your video is so...crispy? What's your setup??
Stay strong & overcome the cancer brother.
I have a macbook 2009 (the white one) and still works fine.
One thing about those iMac they are well designed
I'm still on the fence now the 16 inch is out. My main reason to upgrade my 2016 macbook is the thermal throttling especially while using FCPX and 4k content. And the imac's lack the T2 chip which slows it down for H265 content. Is that an issue for the future? Isn't the 16 inch MBP the better FCPX machine now??
For me the imac 27“ Retina is the best value apple computer you can buy cause the 5k screen ...
Really curious on why you got rid of the office? any particular reason? Phenomenal video btw : )
I moved into my own house which has enough space for an office. So I didn't need one anymore.
I have both!! Best decision!!!
Hey ..I need help ..I noticed Harman kardon satellite speakers...I need it badly..because mine got damage...if possible send me the link where i can get only 2 satellite speakers
Thankyou for this!♥️
I currently have a dual core intel core i7 running at 2.9 GHz. Does it matter if I go to an iMac regardless of other specs with only an i5? I’m ok with spending the money but is it because the computer I’m still using is so old that no matter what the 2019+ iMacs are easily better now than they were in the past?
Nice Table. You should have used Bose Companion 50 instead of these speakers. They sound much rich as compared.
I still have them however they have quite a bit of white noise. They’re more tailored to larger rooms. My office is quite small and the harman kardons sounds better in the space.
That’s so true. I wasn’t expecting you to reply me. Means a lot to me. Cheers 🍻
Love your videos 😍 was wondering where did you get your keyboard mat from? It's super aesthetic
ulxstore.com
Very sleek and concise video. Keep them coming please.
21“ model Apple is like 🖕🏻
Beside that I have the same decision at the moment and will go for an iMac. Reasons as mentioned in your video and I don‘t need portability that much anymore. Plus all the adapter bullsh** - don‘t need that in my life!
Where's the PS4 going now?
How much time difference for rendering a 4k video on the macbook vs. the air ? Note, the macbook uses the M version of the processors. They should be much slower.
Finally a informative video! Thank you
Now that you just have the iMac on your desk what is your PS4 hooked up to ?
Is it posible to hook up to the iMac?
Same reason I always with iMac. I bought a 2011 MacBook Pro with graphics card issue. Think I’m going pc for laptop and iMac.
Apple screwed up big time on that kay board. The next ones coming are supposed to go back to the scissor switches.
Great video. Glad to have you back! :D
