Bruh. Yeah watched ur vids while working on some random song. Bout 40 hours into production and like 4 mins into some prog rock/ jazz/ edm thing there is a breakdown….and it was the funnest shit ever to make. We’re talking, at some point I double tracked a bass guitar, into a Tobin abasi bias hi gain preset, and down tuned it to drop…drop e. Than layered that take with an au5 inspired Reece growl….all while using some riddim drums I made, layered in with some rock drum samples, to get a snare that sounds like that slip knot metallic ass weird snare. Like, that: snare but it also sounds like a power lifter dropping the barbell in a shipping container, type snare….is it heavy? Probably not the heaviest, nor most formal breakdown ever. But, the contrast between the breakdown and the parts that lead up to it is so intense, that it’s made half the people I’ve shown it to belly laugh. It’s like, mid bridge. I went for some “sun rising/ waking up” type transition. Which builds layers and stuff in like a major Lydian sorta sparkly fashion. And than it just abruptly cuts off to some silence where you hear the most aggressively processed inhale and scream, and then all shit hits the fan. It’s like getting jump scared in an episode of the Telletubies. The people listening to it, and the songs overall vibe set up the expectation for what inevitably happens to be so low, that when it does happen, it feels waaaayy more intense than it would if it were expected. And I fucc with that. So thanks for the inspo…..I guess.
Actually. Bruh. It basically sounds like 2015 and onwards seven dust song….but I have the voice of a pop singer and not an actual god of rock. So it’s kinda dank.
Also. Last thing I gotta say…being a dubstep and edm producer for like the first 6 years of me producing honestly helped a bunch with making a breakdown. Like, it’s basically the same thing. Just with guitars….dunno why I never thought to combine em. Was like, the rest of the song took like a bazillion hours. And the breakdown is mixed, compressed and layered better. In like 5 hours of work and minimal stress. Because, I’m starting to realize I’m waaayy better at mixing really loud, compression/ side chained/ phase tuned/ low music than more contemporary stuff. I’ve like stacked my skills in the overly technical elements of producing, and have a tough time doing less work on calmer elements. It feels weird to work with less phase cancellation problems. So I work assuming it’s always there. Which makes stuff sound thin sometimes, unless I’m reaaally paying attention. Like, lol f you have two sounds, and one has the opposite phase, and is eq’d similarly, you are basically making noise cancellation headphones for specifically that sound. When you have enough complex sound designy layers, working at the same time, and you are a phase obsessed dingus, you have to worry about shit getting quiet, even if it’s technically loud as hell. But, like, it’s normally not a problem unless ur doing something stoooopid. Basically, I made the breakdown, and the finale style chorus that hits afterwards sound hella weak. Because I treated it like the breakdown, and accidentally cut out and delayed certain frequencies out of habit…unnecessarily…causing it to just sound like it’s missing something. Because it is. It’s missing like 20% of the 150-400hz stuff. And it no longer has headroom, so the compression just glues the “battle in the mids” into one confusing muddy wall of weak sound. So Yee….. basically just here now to hear how these dude transition out of a breakdown. Because, that shits harder to do than making a breakdown apparently.
4:49. Lmfao. I went to one of their concerts…..got floors. Was expecting some sort of a mosh thing. But I swear, when this hit, they hyped it up with a wall of death, Nd my ass went to the front. I ended up getting thrown over the rails into the front security section. Was like, “yo bois. Care to give me a lift?” And they aggressively just tossed me back in, where I proceeded to not touch the ground for like 3 mins. Felt like being in a washing machine. Learned something that day….mobs of metal fans are like the nicest groups of people ever. Not only did I not get scratched or bruised once. But when I actually got launched more towards the ground, the whole ass group around me like caught me and made sure I was upright. Was like, “yo dude. U good?” “Yee!” “FUUUCK YEAAAH BROOO!” Contrast that with my experience going to a crust punk concert (for a school project….I’m being serious) I got the soul knocked out of me by some dude who decided throwing a solid metal garbage can into the pit was a good idea….came out of that pit looking like I experienced all of world war 2 in 5 minutes. Just like, “dudes. Imma sleep in that vomit soaked leather couch at the back. If I don’t wake up, I’m probably actually concussed and you should call the paramedics. Woke up like 10 mins later to a couple making out and doing lines off of a makeup mirror on-top of me…..so yeah. If a mosh pit is able to be “wall of deathed” or whirl pooled. Whatever. It’s prolly a bunch of people who are there for the experience and the fun. If the band name is just a swear word, and hale the people strip down into their underwear the second a guitar makes a noise….ur chances of dying increase substantially.
