IT WORKED!!!!!! You know what mate you just saved me from buying too much power steering fluid. I took my falcon to my uncles to have a look and it does seem to be leaking from there luckily I replaced the pressure switch with a new one now it stopped leaking....once again thanks❤️❤️❤️
Haha my Au had been leaking power steering fluid for ages. I only found out where from today and found your video and it's helped me heaps cheers mate.
Awesome mate, you just saved me from removing the rack, even though I wasn't 100% that was the problem, I could see that switch covered in oil but didn't really know what the Fk was going on, very useful indeed, cheers.
JUST noticed the exact same thing on my series I. Fluid on the crossmember, none on the boots. spun me out. Watched this, went, looked... yup. One leaky arsed switch. I should have remembered from 10 years back when I had exactly the same problem HAHA!
Bend the open end of a spanner to 90 degrees, go in from the top. I made a special tool for that job about 4 years ago.... I've used it once !!! Mainly 'cause the racks barely last a year before dropping fluid, so it's usually a reco rack & new pressure switch at the same time.
Thanks mate. Took me 30 minutes to sort my spanner but now I could do the entire job in about 2 minutes i reckon but Ill prob never need to do it again
The rubber buna or nitrile "O" rings with the aftermarket switches also turn to mush and leak. You need polyacrylate "O" rings so get a factory "O" ring and/ or use power steering resistant sealant (LOCTITE HYDRAULIC SEALANT 569 and 542) and a factory "O" ring.
Getting it out is a shit of a task , what's worse is the switch failing after a few months , I cut a couple of the old leaking ones open ( the alloy part that holds the connector end to the lower part ) they had both failed in the lower part and then the oil would force its way up through to the connector and leak out , as I had replaced 4 of them over a year I got jack of that and put a brass plug in it and did away with the switch . I would love to know what pressure these are running at as I could then go and get an adjustable high quality one to use
This job is much easier if you simply jack the driver's side up front and remove the front driver's side wheel; the switch is then very accessible. Then you can use normal spanners though I prefer a Metrinch for this job.
one thing i noticed was if the switch coming out is an original one with part numbers on it then the 14mm crows foot wont actually fit around the hex without smacking it on with a hammer, the origonal one must be 9/16th's or something and the aftermarket ones are 14mm or theres just manufacturer tolerance differences going on
yes l had the same prob, but one thing my AU falcon is a V8 so l dont have the room from the top coz my extractors are in the way NO ROOM so underneath undo the two nuts that hold steering rack on move it back about 1 inch cant move it any further unless you take the sway bar off use the shorten 14 mill spanner,,1hr later its off thank .F... FOR THAT now have a cold beer relax for 5 take a big breath then put the new one on or maybe find a small bolt(same thread ) with nylon or rubber O ring use some sealant my switch was not connected in the 1st place no drama's all good wont leak again ...

Mate, You just saved me about $600 to replace my p/s rack when it was just the sensor. Cheers from the Gold Coast. :)
Freaking excellent.
Awesome clear video mate. I am now about to venture where angels fear to tread. Thanks.

Mines been doing the same. Leaking for ages. Always topping it up. After long drives the oil was smoking out on my exhaust. Very dangerous ⚠️
Legend! I just had my gearbox serviced, and it wasn't the gearbox! It's this, thank u.
Nice, informative video. I'd been losing fluid after replacing a high-pressure hose and you saved me looking around for the culprit. Cheers...
Thanks for the demo. I've had two unsuccessful attempts, but will remove the front wheel for greater access and try again.

I have this exact problem now. Thanks to you I also have a solution!
Thanks for that
Ive Got mine to do, you've probably saved me 2 hrs of my life stuffing around trying to work it out

Thanks heaps mate! Great help with this problem that I let go for a little too long now.
Thanks mate, I was suspicious of rack main seals but I think it's that switch because it is very wet around the switch.
Awesome video. Was wondering how to get this off and you’ve explained it

Nice job oleboy was going to replace the whole rack, but can see the sensor now could be the problem.

Great video mate 👏🏼
Thank you bro, love ya work

Good one mate , Thanks...

Ross Gould
is this true my fairlane needs a new switch and i dont want to cut my spanners to replace it
I removed the wheel and still found access a real problem. I certainly had no chance of getting a normal spanner in..
Great tip, thanks. 😄
How many spins? I think mine is just spinning and not threading out
thanks
awesome thanks for the video
no worries mate
Thanks Champ
Thanks champ now I know what I need to fix this shit head of thing not looking forward to doing this but must be done thanks again
Life saver
Is it always the switch that leaks? I have a leak on my power steering too on my AU.
My first leak with these was straight from the pipe on the bottom of the tank. Got a new grommet, no problem.
Dealing with this issue right now on a AU2
We just about too do mine thank you so much for the video. Wish us luck 😊
hey, i just did one yesterday with the same crows foot :P
one thing i noticed was if the switch coming out is an original one with part numbers on it then the 14mm crows foot wont actually fit around the hex without smacking it on with a hammer, the origonal one must be 9/16th's or something and the aftermarket ones are 14mm or theres just manufacturer tolerance differences going on
Legend
9/16 is a better fit than a 14mm otherwise perfect. thanx
Is it the same as the s1
yes l had the same prob, but one thing my AU falcon is a V8 so l dont have the room from the top coz my extractors are in the way NO ROOM so underneath undo the two nuts that hold steering rack on move it back about 1 inch cant move it any further unless you take the sway bar off use the shorten 14 mill spanner,,1hr later its off thank .F... Modify a cheap crows foot on the bench grinder
Why not massage the crows foot spanner
got switch from repco $22
Any chance you would know the part number?
Very useful
I did in 1 minuet after seeing this video
Think I might just drop the rack lol
