    Wow, I'm retired in Pattaya (Jomtien). My group plays the two cheapest courses around, Royal Thai Navy (Phlutaluang) and Emerald. Weekday rates run us about 800-1200 thb for the green fee, cart, and caddy fee, depending on the time of the year. Plus most of the guys tip the caddy about 500 thb. They're definitely not resort style courses like you've been playing, but they're comparable to my local courses (non-resort) back in Hawaii. Great video. I haven't played many of the resort courses around Pattaya. I have played them around Hua Hin, and there are some gorgeous courses there - Springfield, Lakeview, Black Mountain etc.

    Thanks for sharing your golf experiences. You’re hitting your irons nicely and solid. Jack’s design courses are all hard as i know. We have nice courses here in Philippines, maybe same or cheaper as in Thailand.

    When I'm in Pattaya I always try to play a new course as there are so many. Pattaya Country Club is my "home" course but I like to play Laem Chabang and Chee Chan with Phoenix Gold being my favourite. Thanks for the video.

      I'm thinking of making a video about our experience with GolfAsian 😊
      Our hotel in Pattaya was very mediocre... especially with our golf clubs, there was no space to walk. The shower was not separate, it had 2 sliding glass doors and only a foot from the bed lol

    Some of the flys love sun screen. Really. They just love it like beer.
    My favourite courses in Pattaya - Laem Chabang, Burapha A&B, Siam Plantation, Siam Waterside, I would say Siam Old Course but it's usually swarming with people who can't handle the course and it takes 5.5 hours to get round. Go there before breakfast. Chee Chan. Pheonix Gold. Green Valley. Bangpakong Riverside. I haven't played Siam Rolling Hills yet, will do that in 2025 for my 60th birthday. Khao Kheow is a course that I never beaten 81 on but will keep trying.
    I have played a number of the cheaper courses and quite a few really aren't worth getting out of bed for. Poor condition, poor design, native grass fairways. That horrible broad leaf stuff.
    Eastern Star is one of the cheap ones that is worth getting out of bed for.
    That's it I think. Pattana, shot level round there but it's not a course I love despite that.

      @GolfwithShan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing! We couldn't get to all the courses this trip because there are so many in Pattaya. Got a couple more to share (upcoming videos), but I definitely need to go back and play the other ones you mentioned 😊

      @@GolfwithShan You never can play all the courses, there are just too many. And of course you want to play your favourites twice. 3 weeks = 12 rounds = 8 courses. I think I love the people more than the golf and i love the golf one hell of a lot.

    I played Laem Chabang many years ago and I liked it alot. They had a really good lunch buffet and even had masseuses if you wanted a traditional Thai massage. I plan on going to Pattaya this summer and I understand that Laem Chabang has night golf which I want to try. BTW, with Golf Asian, did you find the cost equal to self-booking with Golfsavers?

    • @GolfwithShan
      @GolfwithShan  ปีที่แล้ว

      As a rough estimate, it is similar to booking ourselves and paying for golf transportation (not the taxis, like a big car that waits for you at the course). There are definitely ways to golf for cheaper, but it is completely hassle free with GolfAsian. We got picked up from the airport, all our transportation including to and from Bangkok is covered, hotels, golf, everything. It's worth paying a little more for the convenience on a trip (especially since we are pretty new to Thailand, first time to Pattaya)

    I am planning to stay in Pattaya for 2 weeks this Feb, I wonder when is too hot to play? Haven't book any courses yet, I am counting on the hotel concierge or may be theu gold asia, any tips?

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just had 3 weeks out there in November. Feb is a dry month and it gets quite hot with clear blue skies. It boils my head that time of year. Play as early as you can, you don't want to be going out at 10am and having one of those long slow rounds for 5 hours. Unless of course the sun never bothers you. Unlikely the hotel can help you out with golf. Get hold of golf asian and ask for the earliest tee times possible.
      As to tips, if you can't read grain on greens you really need to listen to your caddy. She may not be spot on but she will still save you a ton of putts.

    • @GolfwithShan
      @GolfwithShan  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ^ second this! Thanks 😊
      Don't count on hotels to help haha unless you stay at a golf course resort hotel (I didn't but I assume those can help). Otherwise, GolfAsian or Golf Savers.
      It gets incredibly hot there, especially for those of us who don't live in hot climates. Tee of early. I recommend buying the 1.5L water bottles from 711 for your round 😂
      Caddies generally tell you the putt's break and if it's uphill or downhill. Listen to them, but don't rely on them 100%. Some of the caddies are newer and not as accurate with reads. Most are pretty good at telling you break direction at least!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GolfwithShan Hello Shan, I found on this trip a lot of new caddies around 23 years old. (My putter is older!). The older ones seemed to have gone home during covid and not returned. Found another job possibly. But these youngsters were still very good. You do need a pinch of salt when they give you the line because they don't know how hard you will hit it. But they were pretty good all the same. No complaints. Minimum tip is now 400 Baht. I tip anywhere upto 1500 Baht and of course never forget to tip the locker room staff and always leave my shoes for a clean while I shower so I have the excuse to tip some more.
      So that's another tip for our fellow traveller. 5% of the population has 95% of the money. Everyone else scrapes by to earn enough to eat.

    Shan how do you do the ball tracker line on your shots? is it automated? Im wondering how it sees the ball so far away

    • @GolfwithShan
      @GolfwithShan  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use the desktop version of ShotTracer. I film in 60fps so the software can follow the ball for most of the flight (usually past the peak height) and then estimates the landing spot. Sometimes I have to manually adjust the landing point.
      People with bigger channels have much better cameras that can see far away 😂

    • @FrogyProd
      @FrogyProd ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GolfwithShan Ahh ok yeah I ask because when i shoot on iphone too (even in 4k) you lose sight of the ball after the apex so i was wondering how you were getting the landing of it but that makes sense. I'll try that out :)
