    Episode 166 Manic Mechanic
We tear down two shifters to make one good one. We bought a parts shifter from eBay to repair the existing four speed shifter on our 1963 Galaxie. The Ford Galaxie 4 speed bench seat shifter is iconic for bare bones raw horse power and we wanted to return the old Battlescared Galaxia to that iconic look. For that we are using the 1962-1964 Fairlane Bench seat four-speed shifter from the folks at AutoKrafters.

You are welcome. In some respects it's dry as toast but it's something I think needed to be shown.

I had a T5 and it had a really tight shifter . It had a FO MO CO setup, but not an Autolight.

Don't you hate it when something looks or seems like it will be so easy until you get started. You got a snag and tell yourself "it'll be a breeze if I can just get past this point" only for the next part gives you a problem too! It happens to us so at five point. At least you keep a pretty good composure. At least in camera! 😜 😆

Honestly the problem with the shifter saddle caused me to lose less composure but a lot more sweat lol.

Heat on tight parts does wonders.

Though I didn't mention it we did try heat on it.

How do you remove the reverse helper from shifter?

I don't know if it would work, but maybe soak the whole assembly in penetrating oil. It might release the rust that is holding it in.

    • @AutoRestoMod

We threw penetrating oil on it for a couple of days.. Video took a lot longer than what it takes for us to show it to you for sure lol. It's funny how the small parts will always seem to fight you bigger than the big stuff.

All of that will be getting hit, we plan on doing the roller bushing conversion on this car.

Honestly you caught me Steve, I was using a diagram of that 4 speed shifter (that I found on the Internet) when I put it back together lol.
