So many people forget the Ascent exists. I work for a car rental company, an Ascent's tag said "Sub Asc" and coworkers were asking where the Suburban was.
I dont see how people think this looks ugly...actually looks nice in the front. Yall trippin even the WRX looks good in the front. That rear on the wrx looks crazy tho
Looks are subjective but this Ascent does indeed look a lot more distinctive than the previous Ascent. The old Ascent looked too much like a minivan. Although not mentioned in this video, the Ascent's outward driver visibility is absolutely outstanding. No competitor even comes close. The seating position and the accelerator/brake heal toe position is perfect. I do recommend getting an Onyx version though, with the "star tech" interior. Every other interior option, including the "touring" had seats that were way too stiff. For some reason the star tech interior was softer.
Am I the only one who I hints this is one of the most attractive in this segment .. the rest of the other ones are extremely boxy and frumpy looking like they couldn’t figure out if they wanted to make a minivan or to make a pickup truck im looking at you Chevy traverse
Tried to draw from the toyota highlander xse. Biggest draw back is the transmission in my opinion.. these cars are too big to benefit from any cvt magic. Put in a traditional toque converter transmission. An 8 speed will do just fine.
The cargo space 2nd row down is same as Honda CRV hybrid? Correct and realistic way to measure cargo space is Distance between the Wheel Wells, and height at opening of cargo door. This is where max height is measured to put in stuff. And cargo wheel well area is standard for width of things can be put in. Awaiting your response.
Nick, Disappointing sales numbers might suggest Descent would be a better name for this Subaru. It certainly never overcame the curse of the Tribeca. Maybe 'third times the charm' for Subaru in the highly competitive world of 3 row CUVs. 😉
From my perspective that would be stupid of Toyota. First, it would likely hurt sales of those Toyota models as they would likely be cheaper than their Toyota cousins. Second, Subaru is a bit like Jeep in regards to brand loyalty and a re-badged Toyota would lose a lot of brand equity for them. Just my view.
Ohh wow. That is one tall, bulbus snout on an outback wagon. Totally reminds me how silly my dog looks when he manages to eat a bee. Someone needs to feed that poor car a half a Benadryl.
I was doing a lot of research in the 3-row segment -- I wanted to find out which was the shortest vehicle with what I consider to be a "functional third row", because the car needs to fit in my small urban garage. Turns out the Ascent is the shortest. The 3rd row may not be great for six-footers, but it's roomy enough for anyone else, and you're not sitting directly on the floor. But the Pathfinder is only a couple inches longer, and it's a better value in terms of what you get for the money. Plus it has better mileage with an actual V6, the Subaru's mileage is pathetic. (I do like how easy it is to see out of the Ascent, Subaru has always been good about that.)
I shopped this before getting the OB XT. Compared to the OB and even other SUVs with similar HP and AWD, the Ascent didn't score high. For what you get, it is pricy. The higher end trims don't feel higher end. The turbo engine and CVT combination in the OB XT acts like two left feet sometimes and in the Ascent it doesn't feel as clunky, but it feels bogged. The engine has potential, but for the love of Mike, pair it with a traditional transmission. My previous Honda Pilot AWD would have easily towed much better, though they both are rated at the same capacity. Ride isn't anything special. I really like Subaru in general having owned a WRX and currently an OB XT, but the Ascent just didn't seem to check many boxes for me compared to similarly equipped SUV competitors. Had I not picked the OB XT, likely I would be driving a Toyota Highlander or Grand Highlander (assuming I could have found an AWD with no 'market adjustment').
"DO HAVE"? Just stop. It is unbelievably distracting. You DO NOT need to use the word "DO" in this context. You can also stop saying "go ahead and..." and "in my personal opinion". Yes, we assume it's your personal opinion unless you say that it is the opinion of someone else.
"Seats 7, has 19 cupholders" - exactly the kind of car facts my brain craves

These are nicely discounted here in Maryland (September 2024).
In todays age of downsizing and turbocharging engines, I can't think of a car that needs a V6 and a traditional stepped transmission more than this.
a flat 6! they haven't made one of these in a while
That being said, I can’t imagine getting a vehicle with even worse gas mileage.
I can't imagine the wrecking longevity of this forced induction engines
Great review of a homely looking Subie, Nick. 😊 The Ascent desperately needs a complete redesign. Feels very old and outdated to me
I’m holding out for that four row.

It a big Forsester. Underrated car.
The current trend of exterior black accents and black wheels must end soon.
I previously owned a couple of Subarus, but their design continues to amaze how ugly/funky they look.

I agree with you. It doesn’t look ugly at all. 3 rd row seat is a waste for most people.
I call the Ascent the Forester XL. Love both of them, wouldn't own any other brand.

(genuinely, friendly) Tip: modulate the tone of your voice. Emphasize certain things, break up your tempo, show emotion, etc.
Talk about a mouth breather
I appreciate your more realistic take on ride quality. It's far from an A+ ride that Alex absurdly rates it to be.
Uglier than the last gen pilot is quite the accomplishment
Looks like a pistachio
The last gen pilot looked like a minivan. This does not
@@markwilliams6378 this looks like a wagon in an accident. It is better
than the ugly Pilot van thing

Most Subaru's roof racks have a dynamic wieght limit of 165lbs. This is the max wieght you can have up their while the car is in motion.
Ascent and Outback are both due for a redo next year. I would expect Toyota to be heavy handed and rebadge Highlander and RAV4 as new Subbie models.
RAV4 and Highlander also need redesigns

Jesus Subaru has the funkiest weirdest looking designs 🤢
Their B9 Tribeca was the weirdest of all! 🤢

Thank you really helpful
Negative comments must be the competition.
These comments are like a snark competition. Believe this takes the bronze 😮
Wonder how the ride would be for driving for an hour or more over gravel county roads.
Great review Nick. Lots of information, details and very well presented. Thanks!
How does the Telluride have 4 inches more of combined legroom than the Palisade? They're both sister cars.
Cx90 GT 2025 vs Ascent Limited 2025 in Canada. Which is a better family car for Not Off roading family? Only city and highway driving.
With 19 cup holders, they should have included 2 toilets...
i really love the look 😂

I’m in the DMV area and Ive seen maybe one of these on the road in the last 3 years…
Really? I'm in DMV too and see at least 10 a day
@@daweed980 Yea man I haven’t seen but one, what part are you located va Md or city ?
Which is spacer cx9 or ascent? Which is better to highway and suburb roads, cx9 or ascent? Which is better for offroad, cx9 or ascent ?
CX-9 is by far the smallest 3 row midsize SUV in its class
how about Subaru's resale value?
This thing is built like a pistachio 🥜
Analog Dash like in the 90s thats crazy
Isn't the Ascent more Forester than Outback? Outback is more wagon like and Forester is more vertical, like the Ascent. 🤦♂️🤷♂️🫣🤔🙄
I own the 23 Ascent and it is my least favorite Subaru ever. It is a good car and thats about it.
What do you dislike about it?
Very interesting
Subaru=Performance 🤣🤣🤣
That was years ago 😂
What is happening at Subaru, they keep enlarging every model change and all models are growing UGLY !!!
No one puts Subaru and performance in the same sentence. Where’s Alex?

Boring and uninspiring design. But granolas will eat this up.
