Looks sick mate. Little tip to help ya with the lines. Wrap electrical tape on your cut and cut through it. It’ll help keep everything together as you cut it. 🤙
Great build and very tidy. As others have mentioned the soldering is frowned upon for the stiff joints that may eventually cause the wire strands to break, also low melting point of the solder in the event of a malfunction is a worry. I used to do it as well, but if you look at both the automotive and aviation industries crimps are the way to go. Again it is shaping up to be a very nice conversion. Keep up the good work.
Always said you'd make this look easy, haha, I'm sorta glad you're scratching around a little, struggling like anyone else, the difference is you still get a good result, well maybe I'll confirm that for you once the thing fires into life. 😆 Not a big fan of that type of catch can, having said that you'd be super unlikely to draft water thru it. However, I read in the comments you are contemplating a custom one, so it's going to be ditched eventually 👏. For Patrol owners benefit, there are 2 blue wires on the wiper motor. Both offer 12v ignition sense, however if you select the incorrect one, (as I did) your 12v will drop out when wiper motor cuts in. I initially stuck multimeter into wiper motor plug, 12v with ign on, 0v with ign off, that's the one. All was good as we were in drought, no rain for years. Went into Qld for holiday, got rained on, couldn't work out why my relay was dropping out. 😂 Eventually rained eased off, intermittent wiper selected, (💡that light bulb moment struck me). Rained stopped, returned home to NSW, studied my workings and discovered a second blue wire, it doesn't drop out with wiper motor, 😂 Had me going bong cuss, worked fine for years, all of a sudden dropping out. This good hint is for other Patrol owners, check 12v stays active when wiper motor cuts in, 😁.
I saw a video by superfastmatt that did not recommend soldering wiring together, as I always thought this would be a strong join, but he maintains it causes a stress point and leads to fractures and breakages. I would have left the fleece tape off the harness until its up and running, just loose taped the harness for now. Also using a shifter on the AN fittings? Must a spanner to suit somewhere. Really good tips you are providing in this walk through build, as seeing the DCA stuff, a lot was never explained from them in their vids.
4:45 should never just use a solder joint when wiring in an engine bay the hot environment will eventually cause the joint to fail a crimp that is insulated and sealed with glue will be more reliable in the long term but nice work on the conversion it’s different and cool
yo! Great advice, I did consider this, although the joints are near intake manifold (cold side) so I was willing to take the risk! I did not have enough connectors to complete the job! A simple run to jaycar woulda done it but I was just being lazy!
Those plugs on the throttle pedal are hard to come by a 10pin plug with 2 pin deleted, I have just ordered mine from the states as I can not find one anyware in Melbourne takeling my wiring this weekend 🤤

Hey mate, i am not familiar with the 4J engine but are you able to drill and tap a hole into your thermostat housing to put your water temp gauge in? it would be far more accurate and would detect a faulty thermostat quickly, if it was to ever happen (engine side of the thermostat). Check out JRP multigauge. i have one, and it's awesome. you can set alarms on it too, worth a google and read at least. Enjoying the build mate! rock on! \m/
Sorry dude! Kept hitting road blocks with the wiring so it took ages to get there, was so hot and was hardly filming as it was just repetitive, cut - check - find - join - tape - repeat haha
With your aftermarket turbo you won’t need the ecu boost controller that ugly but you wanted to modify can’t use with a gates turbo just had to have it deleted on my one

Any luck with this? I’m at the same stage. I have a Dakota digital unit which hoping I can make work. As I understand the CRD patrols send the tacho feed thru CAN bus so it’s not exactly just tapping into a single wire between the ECU and the tacho like in Di versions.
Whenever I have to tackle wiring, I think "The Great Spaghetti Incident" Looks like Spaghetti Bolognese. Wait! What??? You buy cheapo hoses, but then spend extra on shiny anodised dress up covers? Seriously??? You will have the shiniest, flashest broken down car on the side of the highway

If that water temp sensor is for the fan relays you’ll need it before the radiator for accuracy and might have over heating issue
