  • Here's a spiffed-up example of the sort of video I provide folks when I work on their stoves. It's also a boil test! (Which I generally don't do.) The video shows a correctly working Svea 123R using Crown brand camp stove fuel (aka naphtha). I preheat with denatured alcohol using a Tilley lantern preheat device. I boil 500 ml (2 cups) of water to a full rolling boil in under 6 minutes at 60 deg F air temp.

    Thank you for the series of videos on the stove, my brand new one arrived today and it is a thing of beauty, I showed it to my 9 month old grandson and said it will be his one day. I doubt that in 30 years we will talk about how good a gas canister stove is. One question, can I use unleaded automotive gasoline for a short time and then flush with white spirit, as I intend to use the stove for motorcycle trips and fill the fuel bottle at the same time as the bike when needed?

      I strongly discourage use of automotive gasoline, aka RUG (regular unleaded gasoline) in *any* stove. Don't do it. Yes, the 123 stove says it can run "gasoline", but todays gasoline is nothing like the gasoline sold at the pump 60-75 years ago when these stoves were developed. Todays RUG contains all sorts of additives and chemicals that never featured in the RUG of yore. No stove sold today can get hot enough to burn RUGs additives and they will foul the stove and bake into a sludge over time. Cleaning out stoves fouled by RUG has proven to be my most common stove repair money-maker. Instead of RUG, use Coleman fuel, aka camp stove fuel, aka naphtha. Your stove will last forever if you use naphtha camp stove fuels. Aspen 4T is used as a substitute for camp stove fuel in former British Empire countries. "White spirit" is generally called "mineral spirits" and should never be put in the tank of one of these stoves. Good luck and happy camping! BD

    I get the candle flame on my 123R that I’ve only used a few times. I figured it was just a quark of the R, do you have any suggestions on a fix/tweak?

      I could run through a list of checks you could do, but it would take up more space than makes sense on a TH-cam comment reply. Why not drop me an email at berniedawgstove@comcast.net and I'll send you the "list"? BD

    I would love to see a video about rebuilding the two-way pressurized tank cap. I have a 1979 123R with the aluminum pump and the tank cap is leaking through the center. Are parts still available to rebuild it?

      @Mr JB Glad to hear you’d like to watch such a video because I published that video already back in 2014. You can find it here in the Svea 123 playlist for my channel. th-cam.com/play/PL9Tg7BYD6fULxLmRcd7hQL_ZP2vyBqlZk.html It’s Part 2 of SRV Fuel Cap Rebuilding. Try some of those other videos for the Svea 123, too. As to parts… I have a nice page of stove part suppliers at my webpage right here: www.berniedawg.com/stove-part-supplier-links/ If you haven’t already tried a simple Google of “BernieDawg” you might want to give it a try. My links, videos, products, webpage and TH-cam channel/videos come up very near the top. I’m also available for assistance and additional information through email at bd@berniedawg.com Pretty spiffy, huh? 👍😎 BD

    I used Soto lighter to prime the 123R and no fumes and dirty blackening!

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Bongdu Dugenio Ha-ha! 😆 Yeah, sure. That'll work when you live in a tropical country near the equator or in the Pacific islands. But, a lighter won't cut it when it's below freezing like on mountains and in northern climates like USA, Canada or Alaska. Denatured alcohol works great for preheat = no soot, no fumes. 👍 BD

    Hey Bernie I have 3 of these 1 being the 123 original.One these starts but throws raw fuel and never comes to a bloom.The original 123 lites and works but does bloom as well asI would wish.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards Jack

      Hi Jack
      These need to be preheated to work. You put denatured alcohol (preferred) or stove fuel into the depression at the bottom of the spindle valve/stove body stem and light it. When hot, open the spindle valve. They burn Coleman fuel, aka naphtha, not alcohol or kerosene. These don't really "bloom" like alcohol pop can stoves do. That's where I've heard the"bloom" term used. I think you should just drop me an email for more help. That way I can share photos, video and documents with you. BD

      @JACK Alleman Hi again Like I said in the earlier message - I think you need to drop me an email for some help. I'd be happy to help you, but TH-cam comments isn't the place for that. I just finished a Fire-Lite restore for a client that came out awesome! Send me an email so we can get started helping you solve your issues. BD

    I wonder how long the full tank will last for?

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With a damp tank fill of 125ml, I burned on full blast for 42 minutes and 46 seconds before it ran out of fuel. I don't "fill" the tank, but keep the "fully fueled" fuel level below the bottom of the filler - about even, or just slightly below, where the tank side goes from vertical to angled, OR, about 1/8" below the bottom of the filler tube. You can run it fuller, but it takes a lot longer to build up pressure and you may get surging. Just my 2 cents on how I like to do it. Ymmv. BD

      @@BernieDawgCinema cool thanks for the reply so you can get a lot of boils out of it I imagine. Yeah I love my little stove it's missing like the key but that ain't a big problem I got another tool on it. Yeah I live in California so the band on alcohol so I got some in Arizona. It was only $20 to pay twenty-six to twenty-eight on it.
