    No reply necessary, thank you.
    And thank you for sharing.
    I watched this when it was first posted, and just come across it again.
    I had hankered after the SVEA 123 when a youth, but my budget back then compelled me to get an inexpensive metholated sprit stove in a can for the one pot cooking I did on cycle camping trips.
    Although I have a Trangia 25 ( £3 charity shop buy 30 odd years ago and now modified to accept gas) ; and a 27 of ages ago, ( swapped in Titanium pots from an on line clearence sale 5 years ago). I succumbed about the same time to my desire fot the SVEA 123; NO REGRETS.
    March 2020 on TH-cam a Norwegian had a vlog on the Svea and didn't like the quiet of the silencer and was going to restore the JET RAW. I offered to buy the silencer, but he kindky sent it as a gift. I love the quiet, and it seems to regulate lower too.
    I use Aspen 4 fuel 5 L £21approx.
    A 50ml squeesable bottle with a fine nipple filled with FIRE-DRAGON Gell is an ideal non spill primer.
    At work on a floating 3/4 ti wind screen, not entirely resolved yet.
    Turn to the right to screw up tight.
    Left raises the needle to clean the jet hole.
    Thanks again for sharing.
    Take care

    Thought I would share a tip with you to show my appreciation, you can run a thin piece of wire through the center of you wick material and bend it around the prime bowl for I nice easy fit, it also a clean look as well, hope you like my tip and thanks again.

    I enjoyed your Video.
    I own an Old Brass Primus Stove that I bout for $2.00 at a Flea Market in 1975, because it had a really badly burned and rusted Steel Case. I made a custom pot support with 4 rests that swing out wider than the case, and work well. I have used that stove for many many a hike, and it is made to operate exactly as your’s. Yes.... a real jet engine!! It does ruin the tranquility! When you turn it off, after cooking a fairly large pot of stew, you really notice the quiet!! I was aware of that modification to quiet down the stove, but haven’t tried it yet. My Safety Valve Cap ends up venting a very small amount amount, constantly, and it ignites and there is approximately a 1/2” Long flame constantly burning on the Safety Fuel cap, just like a Pilot Light!! 😧😵 it is unnerving!! It’s probably no more dangerous than the stove burner itself, but I cannot get over the nervous feeling! 😬🤭🤦🏻‍♂️ It is my understanding that New Caps are not available. I cannot break the Safety Cap loose for disassembly. I’m now wondering if your Stoves Cap will fit mine. It just might!

    Great stove. I have had my two SVEA 'Roarers' for 40+ years. No, they are not for sale.
    Thanks for the Vid.
    Note: The OFF position is key turned fully clockwise.
    Key turned fully counter-clockwise is to clean the orifice, but it is not sealed, and will leak fuel. And, if you leave it turned counter-clockwise, you risk damaging the cleaner pin/needle.

    5 years later… did using methylated spirits/alcohol to prime via wick cut down on soot over using White Gas?

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      White gas less soot. But a spray down after camp with carb cleaner is a 20 second job....
      The 123R had a faulty spindle, in hindsight would have bought a vintage 123 instead with less moving parts. The 123R was replaced with a £30 BRS white gas stove, and has not yet been serviced 3 years on, and it flawless, and puts out more boils per tank too.
      The BRS (White gas) a little bit heavier & bulkier, and isn't as pretty, but hell she puts out. Practicality over sentiment these days for me.

    Can I assume thats a Bernie Dawg 3d printed Cap, I think it is. Yes the SVEA is a brilliant stove I have used it at 12,000 feet in the alps in France and then again at 9000 feet in the Spanish Pyrenees in heavy winds it never goes out, way way better than a Trangia any day, I have one so I can vouch for the stove over the Trangia...So I take the trangia food pots abut the SVEA stove.
    Another thing to stop mouth burns is to use some silicone tube cut it length ways and put it on the rim, fits perfectly.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate. No I no longer have the svea 123R stove. It suffered a small failure, and the parts required to fix the issue, were nearly the cost of a new unit. Providing you use the cleanest fuel, and keep it maintained, you should have fewer issues.
      The vintage 123 svea does not house a self cleaning needle pricker (the culprit of my stove failure) so the older ones out last the newer 123 R models. Since then I have opted for gas cylinder stoves, and keep meths for DIY stoves. The failure of the R version, is thankfully not that common, and the original 123 from the 1960s, failure is unheard of.
      Hope this hasn't put you off your relationship with your new stove, and hope you get as much enjoyment as I once did. The letter (R) stands for replica. Mine was made by optimus, although keeps the Swedish name Svea, the original 123 would have been my choice, knowing what I know now in hind sight......Treat it well, it will look after you,,,,,bex
      PS I stripped mine down for parts, and sold them, and got back nearly all my initial investment....happy trails...bex

    I have used the SVEA 123 Stove since 1963 with good and reliable results and no modifications. This stove needs no modifications. The carbonization you have is because you run it so low. Run it hot and carbon does not develop or burns off clean.
