Paisley wanted him to replace Souness but he was at Everton at the time and couldn't make the switch.. understandable but at the time I hated him, nobody turns down Liverpool! Same with Charlie Nicholas but I think we dodged a bullet there lol
Dunno, Charlie was the hottest player in Britain at Celtic, everyone wanted him. If he'd gone to Liverpool instead of a poor Arsenal team he might have realised that potential. Couldn't have been worse than Paul Walsh.
i remember goin watching crewe v blackpool i asked him when he got off the coach for his autograph he looked at me as to say fuck off since then cannot stand the man and iam a liverpool fan
How can a player be overated if he played in the middle of the park in arguably Liverpool greatest side... he always outplayed Robson, wasn't a sick note like he was and he won more trophies for Liverpool too. Think Robson got a league medal in a Christmas cracker when he was about 37 full of ale as usual.
@jonnyhyperhigg5764 you said it the greatest liverpool side, was lucky to play in it, you could put vinnie Jones in that team at that time and he would have looked world class, he did nothing before or after Liverpool, Says something when Bobby Robson and Graham Taylor didn't pick him for England, Taylor picked Carlton peanut Palmer before him, end of argument.
@jonnyhyperhigg5764 didn't say he wasn't a good footballer I said overrated, OK he had a decent season in 88, but just look at the players around him. You said 50 goals from 1985 to 91, it isn't that good is it really, he went to man city then Swindon after and i think it was one goal in 129 games, you see were im coming from? As for England remember Ireland game 1990 World cup, cost England that match,
McMahon was immense in midfield - just what we needed after Souness left - and remains criminally underrated.
Solid and dependable
The most underrated player in Liverpool's history.
Anyone who had the kahoonas ⚽ ⚽ to go blow for blow with vinnie Jones is surely a monster 🦍
and he sure could rap. he truly deserved his england caps.
I had a few beers with Steve in Harry's Bar in Orchard Road Singapore! Nice guy, he knew I was a Gooner! Great lad!
Steve 'fuck off' McMahon. Hated by Evertonians during his days across the park, but most agree Kendall was hasty in getting rid of him.
They don`t make them like that any more. If anyone could Macca could !
Great player how is he not higher ?
Mcdermott & Whelan should be in top 20 as well !
How hell is Steve McMahon number 42 on this list?
How is he behind Redknapp, nothing against Jamie but what a player this fella was
proper midfielder in one of the greatest teams ever
Remember when he was in charge of Blackpool went for his Autograph he walked through me like I was not there
@Wisty Boy he really upset me that day
Still every Arsenal fan's favourite scouser.
Good player but was intimidated by Jones and Whiteside.
Both had him tiptoeing around them.
I remember him scoring an amazing header from distance...don't know who against or when though.
I think it may have been the Euro Super Cup or whatever it was called against Everton.
Paisley wanted him to replace Souness but he was at Everton at the time and couldn't make the switch.. understandable but at the time I hated him, nobody turns down Liverpool!

@Wisty Boy Thank goodness for the wisdom of the Boot Room.

Should be lower than 42
1 minute 😂😂😂
i remember goin watching crewe v blackpool i asked him when he got off the coach for his autograph he looked at me as to say fuck off since then cannot stand the man and iam a liverpool fan
He's ace.
Not fit to lace robbo boots
Really, mcmahon was a top player
Most over rated player ever, not a patch on the Great Brian Robson, and as for England, should never got any way near the squad.

@@petemitchel5622 he scored nearly 50 goals for Liverpool. Was 3rd in PFA player of the year in 1988 and won goal of the season.

Mcmahon. Aye Mcmahon
