    Nicely done and described-thank you! My QMX kit is in transit, somewhere between Hans’ lab and me, and I’m really looking forward to getting started! Much appreciation for the video.

      Thank you for the good words. Thanks for stopping by, watching, and taking time to comment. Word of caution: A lot has changed since I did my build. So, the build manual and firmware use has changed. It’s still an awesome kit and radio, just slightly different than the initial days. See you out there. 73 de Bill

    Finished building my QMX day before yesterday. Would not power up. Traced issue to the 8 pin add on power board. At this point I think it is faulty. Let me know if you encounter the same problem. Thanks for the toroid wrap, wish I would have seen this video before I started.

      Thanks for watching and commenting, Raith! Thanks for the kind words about my toroid wrapping, lol. I appreciate feedback and conversation. I am waiting on finer tips for my soldering iron before I finish. It's is all fitted, and even in the case. I read completely through the assembly instruction, fitted the parts, and soldered what I could. I do have a small tip, but even so a finer tip is better; some of those smd and through-hole leads are a tight fit!. So I left those parts to be done last, was careful not to do a step that got in the way of another, and went through to the end . . . Waiting on the finer tips. I did find that i had (3) three buttons and no (0) 2x2 header; so I can't finish until either they send me one or i source it. I do remember trying to find one of those for a elecraft project I was doing and only one 2x2 was the hardest to source for me. I will let you know. You keep me informed as well. Thanks for the potential heads up. 73 de Bill

    Nicely done. Just be aware that this has changed and it now stops at 28 turns and a jump goes from the insertion of the last(28th) turn to where the END used to go.

      You’re absolutely right! I should have said, “at the time of this recording . . . and be careful to check current directions and specifications.” Next time I hope I remember.

    I'm strongly thinking of getting this little kit and even though I've wound toroids before, I'll take all the suggestions I can get. This is a good one.

      Thanks for watching the video, and taking time to comment! They have changed that specific winding, so follow the current instructions for the winding; someone commented here that the number of turns, etc has changed. Thanks for the compliment on my suggested style. I appreciate it it. I love Hans' kits. See you down the log, 73 de Bill

    That's a pretty looking toe-roid at the end. When I get my QMX kit, I'll need to refer back to this video for wrapping info. Great info. I think I'm going to wait for version 2 or 3 before purchasing this kit.

      Kyle! Good to see you, man. Thanks for the good words, for stopping by, watching, and taking time to comment. You’re right about waiting, but I couldn’t resist, lol. Hopefully, it’s any easy modification if necessary, but if not it was my first Hamvention and I got a kit directly from Hans. His kits have a lot to do with me getting and staying interested in the hobby from the beginning. See you soon, 73 de Bill

    When installing the L401 torroid, do you cut the loops before soldering? None of the instructions seem clear on this. Thanks !

    • @Bill-HRT
      @Bill-HRT  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for joining in, and asking a question. I made sure the loop was as small and fine as I could. Then, I cut it as far away from the toroid as I could so I had as much wire to work with as possible. I don’t remember what the instructions called for, but this seemed the way to go. Remember, instructions have changed since I did this project. Tell me how it works out when you’re done. 73 de Bill

    Winding this toroid has changed (see the latest assembly manual) because of the 20m sensitivity issue. Please see the latest manual and do not wind it this way.

      Thanks for sharing this! I appreciate you taking time to watch, and join in conversation. I’ve been so busy at work that I haven’t been able to keep up. I should also make it a point to say, “at the time of recording” when I do these videos. I’ve been a qrp-labs fan since I started in Ham radio. Hope to see you down the log, and I’ll try to pay more attention to the groups-io email messages. 73 de K0WHW
