Hey. I got that after Huntsville Hamfest. Going over there from North Carolina had me pretty well convinced. The trip back made up my mind. The F-150 wasn't struggling or failing, per se, but it was working very, very hard on some of those steeper inclines. I just figured better to have more power and less work at maximum effort. A couple F-250s fell in my lap; one bit me, and the other I kept, lol. The first one, the sales person neglected to tell me it was diesel def deleted. I didn't want that because I didn't know the ins and outs of registration. He didn't want to give me my deposit back. A conversation with corporate inspired him to give me my money back. Then, Dennis from DenCo batteries asks a question that reminds me of one of the hardest I've ever done. I don't think I can do a video that covers all bases. I went the totally easy way on my latest install. I understand your concerns. I think I did them a little out of order, and my next video will "try" to fix that. If you cannot easily find a spot to pass wires, you are describing what a lot of shade-tree mechanics have been talking about for 30 years or more. Manufacturers took the engine bay which one used to be able to literally sit in while working, and crammed it to the point that on some cars you have to hoist the car and drop the engine to simply change spark plugs. That aside . . . Get on your back in the foot well of your vehicle, flashlight in one hand ( or another adequate source of light) and look and feel around with the other hand. I have done this before by feel only; it's a little creepy to think you might short something or block some vital mechanical linkage. You mentioned the steering assembly; feel around for the large, rubber membrane. Feel for soft points. When you find it, that'll be a good point to penetrate. There is a spot to go through. Check with a forum for the vehicle in question. Someone has 'breeched' the wall. Let me know how it goes. "The MiniBar crow-bar circuit is designed to protect electronic equipment from damage because of over-voltage in the event of a power supply failure. It is designed for equipment that operates nominally at 13.8 Volts DC." That bit in quotation is taken directly from the internet. They talked about it on Coffee and Ham Radios. Accurate aim and use of physics becomes more important so that no energy is wasted. I am no spring chicken, but (13 or 14) meters and (45) feet are heights I get when I’m determined. I don’t get that every time; when I was putting my 160 loop up I had to try many times again and again until I hit the mark. (9) meters is all I go for when I’m putting up an efhw, and that’s good enough for me. Reply with your thoughts. I’m interested. I look forward to hearing from you. 73 de Bill

@@Bill-HRT Thanks for your elaborate answer and for sharing your estimations about what heights are realistic.🙂Being aware or getting older is apparently something we have in common, and besides that I was never good at throwing even when I was younger. However, heights of 13..14 meters make these throw bags/lines indeed an interesting alternative to what I am using currently which is a 12 meters (=40 ft) GFK pole. The GFK pole is easy to use as I meanwhile have figured out how to optimize the setup, a pole of that size is everything else than inconspicuous though. This is why I am checking out alternatives. At the beginning, I tried a sling shot, but it broke at the first attempt. 😐 Well, with the throw lines I now have a reasonable alternative to consider. 🙂 73 de Henner

Dennis! Thanks for jumping in. I appreciate the support and the conversation. That case is just a basic 4u, Gator case. It has served me well. Both sides are open, and I have never had problems with overheating. In case I do, I have two, 12v fans to move the air. So far, so good. I hand carried the radio to Flex in Austin from Charlotte to have it worked on. It was never questioned as a carry on by the airline. I have taken that radio to Huntsville last year in the back of the pickup; some people thought I was crazy, but I had fun. Again, thanks for dropping by. See you out there. 73 de Bill

@@Bill-HRT I have a Gator Pro 3U case for my 710. Looks like there's some room for a VHF/UHF mobile and perhaps a 20A battery too. Kind of overkill since I don't move around much like you do, but since when did that stop hams? Keep releasing these videos, we love seeing into your nomad journey.
