Maybe use a rotary cutter. It’s easier on your hands and wrist, and an acrylic ruler will help with accuracy.

Trash bags have insecticide on the plastic. That's why we don't get maggots in them like happened years ago.
I would advise making an apron out of a cheap plastic tablecloth or shower curtain instead.

I just measure my wrist and leave a little wiggle room!

Did you feel any pains after sewing? Like being electrocuted? I can't use water (shower) before and after sewing. I just waited for 5 to 8 hours before taking shower.
It's important to take breaks & vary motions. I've worked in a factory for decades, my hands are in good shape because we rotate through positions every 2 hours.
It would be healthier NOT to do all the cutting at once or all the sewing & tugging at once.
Learning some hand stretches would be a good idea as well. Avoid carpel tunnel syndrome or tendonitis.

Go outside and put your barefeet on a lawn or wet soil. It is called grounding.

Wash the towels first. That should help with the fluff issue.
I don't wash them before hand due to most people having an allergy to certain detergents! It's also more time and money on me!
